Wow, what a place! Everyone, with kids or not, should experience the beauty and creativity of these gardens. I've heard of it many times but since we don't live in the area, we hadn't been able to go until recently. Entry is $12 for adults and $10 for kiddos (free under 2), all of which goes to supporting the grounds keeping. These botanic gardens are all inspired by children's books literature, and the stops along the way are wonderful! From hopping on the Magic School Bus and riding in Little Blue Truck, to seeing all the fishes swim with Pout Pout Fish and climbing into Winnie the Pooh's house, all of it is so well done. Just when you think you've seen them all, you find another winding path through lovely landscaping to discover more. It sounds like they also have various themed events throughout the year, offer workshops, and host fun field trips. Overall really awesome place! read more

Super cute garden for kids to see replica houses and sculptures from their favorite books. It's a nice loop path with a few spots to deviate to see things like a fish pond or lookout area. There's a few props in some houses like chairs and dishes, a few smaller play stations and a playground. They also have a picnic area to enjoy lunch while there. We checked out a pass from our local library so it was free to go. Be sure to look at their website for parking information as the big lot is being re-paved so you have to walk about 5-10min to get in, unless you have handicapped parking, which they have closer to the entrance. read more

If you could imagine the child in you walking through a book then this place is a dream come true. From Whinny the Pooh's treehouse to the Three Little Pigs houses there was fun and interactive learning around every corner. Truly laid out well for the young ones and young at heart. Made you feel like a kid again by awakening all senses. The day we went there were stations set up where my Granddaughter took a turn at churning butter and making a photo using bird seeds. Wasn't sure how cheesy or potentially lame this place would be as one would think I'd have heard about it sooner if it was really cool, but this place was amazing, we'll taken care of, super unique, clean, beautiful flowers and awesome exhibits, very interactive and super cool for kids. A definite must visit for toddlers through grade schoolers. Will be at least an annual visit moving forward if not more! read more

Such a cute place to take young ones. We took our two year old and he ran around and had fun at the different "scenes". He was a fan of the chickens and the garden. It took us about half an hour to walk around so not too long. This would be more time consuming with an older child who knows how to read or is beginning to read because the different spots could remind them of the associated storybook. Overall very relaxed place with plenty of parking for the young kids to enjoy. The waking paths are big enough for strollers and to feel comfortable letting your kids run around to their heart's content. read more

A very cute garden based on children's books. My sister a reading teacher brought us here on a cold and windy June day as we were passing through town. It was swarming with kids, which it should be. They loved the place. It was a super creative garden that melded nice plantings with artsy props related to the different books. And did I mention it is free (with a suggested donation of $5). This is a pretty neat place. My girlfriend took me here on a date, and it was a really good way to spend the afternoon. These gardens make books come to life. I wish I had had a place like this nearby when I was growing up! It's full of cute, hands on playthings and buildings and all sorts of things to entertain kids and entertain their minds too. The plants and flowers are well maintained and bright. What I also think is cool is that it's free/donation based, so it won't break the bank to bring all the kiddos here to enjoy the fun. There's also special events/musicians/readings hosted here, which is pretty cool. Because I'm an adult, I don't know that I'd feel the need to come here again, but if I had kids, I'd definitely be back. read more

Yes, what a wonderful place for young kids to learn, be creative, and explore. We paid $48 for 4 people and drove over an hour away. Pros and cons made the experienced mixed. Advance warnings signs that areas would have wet paint, maintenance (not the same as under construction future development), and mulch would be being laid. For what we paid all maintenance that would prevent kids from using all areas is rather disappointing. Both Monday and Tuesday when you are closed seems like the most appropriate time to do high end maintenance. When we were at the garden on 9/27 the weather was nice, the parking lot of full, and a field trip was going on. How do you explain to a small child who is excited, looking forward to exploring, and a family who just spent a high value of money that areas are closed. While we realize general maintenance is important for the up keep of the story book garden at what point can't this be done when the general public is not present? My child could not fully explore and read signs for areas closed. They could not run ahead being in my eye sight because I had no idea upon paying that areas were closed. How do you explain to a special needs child sorry this time you can't go in that house. It was very unfortunate because the tallest house where even the adults could enter was blocked out. Those high lights the child remembered from the experience before. As a .parent, who just paid that value I myself was pretty bummed. This experience, this trip, and opportunity for my child is not something that can be recreated another time. We traveled from out of town. read more

This might just be the happiest place on earth, and it's got none of Disney World's insane prices. Bookworm Gardens is an adorable, kid-friendly park with no admission fee. It takes classic children books into themed areas within the park. My toddler nephew loves this place, even voluntarily delaying nap time to play. Stands around the park have books for children to read, and there's plenty of acitivities to keep them entertained. Awesome, awesome, awesome place! read more

We loved our visit. We originally booked for early August but had to cancel because Wisconsin was added to the Chicago quarantine list. Joy refunded our tickets without hesitation. We were able to rebook for September and it was worth the wait. Great for all ages! Spent the day in Sheboygan with my SIL, her baby, my Dad (kid's grandpa) and my little girl. Everyone loved the gardens! The flowers were so pretty, lots of bees and butterflies, and each area was really well done and so neat. My little girl liked the 3 little pigs and the Laura Ingals areas the best, and I thought the farm/veggie garden was pretty neat. Good for all ages, as we were from 1YO to 68YO. This place is amazing. It's beautifully designed and implemented with every element clearly considered. Where to begin? The walking paths have a comfortable cushion & spring to them. The layout is spacious, but not so large that you feel you have to keep moving to see it all. Each exhibit will surprise you and the kid response to each will crack you up. They can wash a dog, play music, relax and read a weatherproofed (kid-proofed?) book, check out an old covered wagon, type on old typewriters, build fairy gardens and so much more. Oh...the FLOWERS!! Lovely and fragrant. If you're on the fence about whether to stop, stop! It could easily be a short visit if you need it to be. read more

I'm in love with this place. In preparation for a visit to Sheboygan, we did lots of research and saw how many glowing reviews this place got - Now we know why! It's incredible! Our kid is a bit too young to understand the full concept of the gardens/activities were related to some of her favorite books (one even being the inspiration for her name - Absolutely LOVED seeing that, by the way!) but they still had a complete blast, made a bunch of friends to play with while there, and ended the day completely exhausted. Everyone was so kind too; The staff was just lovely, all other parents were kind, and every child had a huge smile on their face (aside from the one who scraped his knee - that was a rough moment for them...). I don't recall the cost of getting in, but I do recall being shocked - In a very good way. It's an amazing place that words could not do justice that makes everyone happy and was something that is affordable. I do wish we knew that there were secret little cubbies with the books so that we could stop to sit, read, and talk about how it correlates to that part of the gardens, but our kid was so excited I'm not sure she would've been able to concentrate on reading. My wife and I pass by the Garden on our way to UW Sheboygan. When it was first being built, the impression was that it was a project by people with too much money and too much time on their hands. It was a yuppie vision of what nature should look like. They altered a fine wildlife area and built, what can best be described as, a whimsical wonderland. Stone dinosaur, whirling colorful things, pathways through whimsy are waiting to entertain families with kids who like "safe" nature. I wasn't overly thrilled about the habitat destruction to build the place. But I have to bury the curmudgeon side of me and admit that the place is cute; and kids seem to love it. Just because I like my nature undeveloped and dangerous, doesn't mean there aren't people out there who love this type of place. It is family friendly for those who have young children. For that I give it an extra star. It's just not my cup of tea read more

I visited this place for a short time after a baby shower and hope to find time to take our daughter someday. Since my visit was a short curiosity visit, I can't do this place justice, currently, with this review. We happened to find this place on a weekend trip to the northern unit of the kettle moraine forest. Our daughter who is three loved it as the gardens are designed to bring to life children's fables and stories. My wife and I appreciated the well kept grounds which are fantastic to stroll around on a nice summer day. We decided to explore Sheboygan since we were camping in the state park near by & found this place on Trip Advisor. It truly a gem of a place. My girls, who are elementary school age, loved this place! When we go camping again we will go back. It is located right across from the UW Sheboygan campus. It is a beautiful place that allows kids to bring stories alive. The gardens are beautiful and well cared for. They have book boxes filled with the books represented in the gardens. It was great to give the kids a unique visual in such a wonderful setting to help their stories come alive. There is no cost, they just take donations. We will go back next time we are camping in Sheboygan. read more
