Free books?! Count me in! You can peruse the store and take a book, or books. Some sections have a limit on them such as the cooking and art sections, up to 3 books only. There's a wonderful selection of classics. I found Animal Farm and Crime and Punishment and saw 1984 as well. A surprisingly large poetry section was also available. There are DVDs and CDs and I think some vinyl. There was a large children's section as well and a little cute space for a little one to color or read. I loved the music (Beach House was playing) and the whole experience of finding the books I was looking for just felt serendipitous. 5 stars!

This is the first free community bookstore I've ever come across, and it was really cool! A cute, small store located in Avondale, the book selection wasn't that large but it was sizable and well organized by genre. You're allowed to take 10 books each time you visit, and you can also donate books to them any time! My friend and I spent a good amount of time perusing the books and left with 4 books total. In addition, as per its name, the organization is engaged in great causes including campus book drives and The African Library Project to create libraries across the continent.

I was clearing out my late brother's home and amassed 27 boxes of books, DVDs and VHS tapes that were in very good condition.

My son's class came here to help sort thru the many many bags of donations they receive. I thought the staff at Cradles to Crayons did an amazing job explaining to a group of 3rd graders how this was an opportunity to help those less fortunate and love that they also got to help with the process. We spent a few hours sorting thru piles of clothing and dividing them into different categories (winter coats, girls short sleeve shirts, skirts to name a few). The kids had a lot of fun and even got a few chuckles when they came across things like bras and thongs, which were thrown in the "recycle bin." After a few hours of work they took a tour of the amazing facility, ate lunch and the Cradles to Crayon staff wrapped it up by praising them on their hard work! My son mentioned it was a super fun day and I think he enjoyed it more than the other field trips we've taken this year (ex: Chicago History Museum). I've now been here 3 times for field trips with my kids and each time I make a note that I need to come separately of school. This time I'm determined to make the time to donate my time to this amazing organization and great excuse to clean out my closets ahead of time to make a donation!

It's very disappointing to see how expensive they are charging now for used items that they receive for free. Especially during a time when many people are struggling to make ends meet... now I can't even afford my nearest thrift store and have to go somewhere far to get reasonable prices. I hope someone does something about these prices please. Also, if you are donating, please remove the tags because they will price it according to the tag which is disgusting. Even if the item is missing pieces, ripped, stained, they don't care they will charge according the tag. Another complaint I have is the removal of changing rooms. Because you can't return anything, you can only exchange. So customers are forced to try items on awkwardly in the isles. This is just plain ridiculous and obviously greedy. If you're gonna take away changing rooms, allow RETURNS, not exchanges. Simple.

The young woman working the check out area was running around trying to help everyone. It was a packed line, two days before Christmas, and she was so incredible- friendly, patient, and looking to see who needed help. I did not catch her name but she was working at the front checkout area this morning. Kudos to her and to all of the staff at the brickyard unique. I shop at this location a lot and I appreciate the hard work everyone there puts in. It's a great store.

The facility was very well organized and it felt really good doing something important for the community! Our sorority will be back in the fall for more opportunities so I'm excited about that!

I don't know what their value limit is but it should really be posted online ... $20,000? No idea. Either way, the employee Sam had a bad attitude and was very unpleasant to deal with. I will not be donating to this organization again in any capacity and will be giving my time and money to local organizations that actually appreciate donations from the community.

I stop by on Sunday late afternoons on my way home and it's as fast as hitting one extra red light. One block off touhy, you simply pull up and there's an overhang to protect from sun or rain. There are two lanes so I've rarely had to wait. When I pull up, immediately an employee comes out wheeling a cart and helps load my things into it. Then I'm on my way again. I've never had donations be this easy. I'm finally taking the time to write this review because as I was dropping off my mom's things last night, I accidentally kept my Irish cap and scarf on the donation bag and realized when I got home! Ack! They had sentimental value and I hadn't meant to donate them. I was concerned this would be circus getting them back. But I called immediately, spoke with an extremely diligent and gracious manager who found them within minutes (he said it helped that I called immediately). He said it happens all the time and he is just so grateful for people donating things and wants them tog et their things back in these situations. I drove back and retrieving my items was quite simple. Highly recommend if you're looking for somewhere to donate
