While visiting family in Winnipeg, my husband and I went on a used-bookstore tour of the city - we stopped at 7 stores in total, and while Book Fair had a fairly small section of the genre we were on the hunt for (general fiction/literature trade paperbacks), it ranked number 1 in the friendly/helpful staff category. When we were making our purchase, the cashier gave us a brochure listing all the used book stores in Winnipeg (most of which we had already scouted out on Yelp), but with the additional benefit of her recommendations based on what we were looking for. Very cool. If comic books are your thing, and you want to spend an afternoon browsing while hanging out downtown, don't miss Book Fair. This is the comic shop to go to for new releases. They have a back catalogue, rare ones, graphic novels, but the simplicity of looking at many current issues from the biggest publishers in one space is what keeps me coming back. read more

This is the WORST book store in the city. Do NOT sell your books here. Not only do they have a lame selection of books, they also fail to inform you when they buy your books that when you go back to use your store credit ( since they won't give you cash), YOU HAVE TO BUY BOOKS THAT MATCH THE GENRE OF WHAT YOU SOLD. Yes, that's right, you are limited to buying books only from the genre that you sold. So you sold them astronomy books? Even though they only have about 20 astronomy books there, your credit is only good for those 20 books. If you want something else? Tough. Like most people, I'm interested in many subjects, and since this store doesn't have a big selection, it's hard to find many books i want. But ESPECIALLY hard if IM Limited to 1 genre that doesn't turn over much. Having to pay to park and walk downtown, over and over to use up $20 credit which seems impossible is outrageous and not customer friendly at all, not to mention NO used store in the world has a rule like this. Maybe this is their motive, hoping it's so hard for you to use up your credit that you just don't and they get your books for free. GO TO RED RIVER BOOKS down the street, he will take anything and gives you WAY more cash and/or credit and has a huge selection. read more
