After dinner, we stopped by this location of Millie's Homemade Ice Cream (a chain local to…read morePittsburgh that's slowly making its away across the US) for dessert. There were a lot of different flavors, but nothing too quirky or unique. I was able to sample a couple before deciding. I'm a huge strawberry fan so I tried both "Strawberry Jam" and "Strawberry Scooter Crunch" and found the latter to be too sweet, so I went with the former. CLASSIC SCOOP - 8.50 + "Strawberry Jam" and "Nutty Pistachio" I shared this with two of my friends since it came with two different flavors. This was incredibly large portions. It wasn't just one scoop of each flavor, but multiple scoops of each flavor in a big cup (16 oz). The strawberry jam had a bright sweetness that I enjoyed, and the nutty pistachio was really good and had some pistachio bits. Overall, thought the ice cream a bit too sweet for me, but it's pretty creamy with a variety of reliable flavors that people are familiar with.

I stopped by for ice cream, but noticed they have a full menu of savory items as well. I ordered a single scoop of coffeehouse cookies and cream. It was an extra $0.50 to pay with a card, but the prices are already very fair so it wasn't an issue at all. I waited maybe a minute and then my ice cream was ready at the next window. The service is prompt and friendly. The only downside is the parking lot is situated at a weird angle to the road that it's on. If you pull head in to the spot, it's very difficult to pull out again without worrying about all of the oncoming traffic and the line of cars waiting right behind you for the light to change at the intersection.

By lunch time, all i wanted was some good ol' soup. Since I work nearby the Oxford Center, I decided on Au Bon Pain. The were advertising a half sandwich or wrap + small soup for $6.99. I asked the cashier, Tess, what this consisted of and she mentioned everything but breakfast sandwiches. I also asked if there happen to be anymore Chicken Dumpling soup because it looked great but was nearly empty. Tess ran back to take look while I ordered my sandwich (Turkey Cubano- yum!) She came back and said that it was the last of the chicken dumpling, but she would kindly take it to the back and put it in a bowl for me since it wasn't possible with a giant ladle. She came not too much later and said that her boss offered the soup for free since I had to wait (it wasn't even long) ! I told her 3 times she didn't have to do that, but she insisted! My turkey cubano sandwich was delicious and the soup helped me feel better. Amazing customer service as well especially during a lunch rush!

Attitude from the employee at the salad stand (the woman acted like we - and every other customer -…read morewere doing her a diservice by being there, and was selective in for whom/when she'd actually choose to chop a salad), and all-around slow service makes this location my least favorite Au Bon Pain downtown. Au Bon is never exactly the ideal get-what-you-pay-for food option available, but when you tack on poor service, it's hard to justify. Generally speaking, if I'm at Au Bon (and the like) for lunch, odds are good that I don't have a lot of time to waste. When it takes nearly 20 minutes to get a basic sandwich, there's simply no way I can make this location a regular option, nor recommend it unless you're just doing grab-and-go (which is really what Au Bon Pain is good at anyway).

The bright pink building is adorable and gives it such a cheerful vibe. The very young woman helping with the ice cream flavors was a sweetheart and made the experience even better. I got the buckeye ice cream and it honestly tasted about as close to a real buckeye as you can get. The peanut butter was rich and creamy, and the chocolate coating reminded me of the shell on a Klondike bar. What really made it stand out though was the Americano I had with it. The coffee had such a bold, rich flavor that cut through the sweetness perfectly (it balanced out the creaminess so well). I highly recommend getting coffee with your ice cream here (even warm coffee with cold ice cream just works). Honestly, the coffee is so good I would come back just for that. I went with a friend and between the ice cream, coffee, and playing cornhole in the back, we had more fun than we've had in a while.
