wasn't at the location of the furnace, checked and found no heat called after hours and was explained the price yes it cost more than a regular service but its freezing out and temperature falling, so in the middle of the night tech fines the issue very quick, explained the issue and he can get it up and going would have to go shop and get part, repaired it quickly and works great. You get what you pay for it was expensive, but at what cost if pipes froze, it's all about service I felt it was fair. read more

Our Geo-Thermo Furnace went out on Tuesday January 16, 2024, called Bonham Heating & Air Conditioning who installed it to come out to figure out what was going on with it. We were told than that it would cost $95.00 an hour.They came out on Wednesday January 17, 2024. We were told that the blower motor went out and it would cost us $1253.00 just for the motor. They suggested that we also replace the contactor also should be replaced because that would be the next thing that goes out, asked what that would cost and was told $75.18. At this time we were told it would take 10-14 days for the blower to come in. We asked why they said they have 3 warehouses but only one supplier. So here we are with no furnace in the dead of winter. Finally get a phone call on Tuesday January 30, 2024 that the parts came in and they would be out Wednesday January 31, 2024 to install 2 weeks later. We received the bill and on the bill we were charged $99.59 Freight charge, $150.00 for the Contactor and a $5.00 charge for Fuel Surcharge. We were never told WE had to pay for the shipping for them to get the parts and what is this extra charge for Fuel Surcharge. We were told the contactor price we were told was $75.18 and now the bill reads $150.00 for it. Called them to question the bill and they were nothing but RUDE and said we were told about the extra charges. No we were not and if we were we would not be calling you. Will NEVER use them again. There are plenty of heating and cooling places around we can use next time. I will NEVER recommend them to anyone. They add things to your bill without you knowing than they tell you they told you. If you use them you better make sure you have everything in writing before you let them do the work. read more

COMPLAINT AS FILED WITH THE MICHIGAN STATE ATTORNEY GENERALS OFFICE ON 7/23/2019 (PART 2) Complainant asked Justin to look at the manufacture's label on the side of the Air Conditioning unit and he refused. Justin merely glance at the unit from a distance and said "that's a Rheem". Complainant then asked why all of the paperwork received upon purchase of this unit said Payne and Justin's response was "I don't know - you have a Rheem" (or words to that effect). Complainant once again asked Justin for the correct part # for the TXV and Justin stood mute. At this point complainant lost his temper and ordered Justin off the property and stated that Bonham was fired as complainant's HVAC provider (a relationship that has endured for 19 years). It was later this day (7/03/2019) that the spouse of complainant (Claire Krzyzanowski) noticed that Justin had removed all of the coolant from complainant's Air Conditioning unit prior to inspecting and deciding that the wrong TXV was procured. Justin left complainant's residence without returning the coolant to the system. Complainant's spouse then called Bonham and asked why Justin would leave the Air Conditioning unit in an absolute unusable state and asked that the coolant be returned to the system. Bonham agreed and sent a new technician -Jeff- to complainant's residence to return the coolant. Jeff stated to complainant's spouse that "he did not understand why Justin would have filled the system with Nitrogen". Several calls were made by complainant and a new HVAC provider was settled on - Wise Heating and Cooling, West Branch, Michigan (hereinafter referred to as "Wise"). Wise, like all other HVAC providers were booked and the earliest appointment was 7/08/2019. On 7/08/2019, Ron, the owner of Wise came to complainant's residence for an inspection and estimate for a new Furnace and Central Air Conditioning unit. Ron, an expert witness who has testified at many HVAC lawsuit cases stated that the TXV was not broken at all but, that the sensor had been disconnected from the system rendering the Air Conditioning unit incapable of determining temperature. Ron also stated that any TXV does not know the difference between a Payne or a Carrier or a Rheem - that the manufacturer of the Air Conditioning unit is irrelevant. Ron stated that a TXV is selected by its rating "a 3 ton TXV married to a 3 ton compressor - a 2 ton TXV married to a 2 ton compressor" and as such the manufacturer of the part is a non-factor (or words to that effect). A contract was signed on this date between complainant and WISE for a new Furnace and Air Conditioning unit not to exceed 10,000.00 with the caveat that the labor and installation be completed as soon as possible. On 7/15/2019, Wise arrived at complainant's residence and installed a new Furnace and Central Air Conditioning Unit. Scott, the principal installer, who is a licensed builder with the State of Michigan stated that Bonham had deployed several "band-aid" solutions to complainant's Payne Air Conditioning system to include the TXV valve. Scott stated that with the correct return air ratio a TXV is unnecessary altogether. Scott expanded complainant's return air and the new system is operating effectively without a TXV valve. On or about 7/16/2019, to add insult to injury, complainant received a bill, Invoice # I-7620-1 (attached hereto and incorporated herein by reference as EXHIBIT 4) from Bonham for services rendered. An invoice complainant has no intention of paying. In Summary: 1. On 6/27/2019 complainant's Air Conditioning unit was operating as normal. On 6/28/2019, Bonham provided routine maintenance under a pre-paid Maintenance contract and within hours the Air Conditioning unit failed; 2. A near identical incident occured the year prior and complainant assumed it was a coincidence, accepted the repair to the Air Conditioning unit and paid the corresponding invoice without complaint; 3. Complainant now suspects that Bonham is running a "racket" wherein those customers, who in good faith, enter into a Maintenance contract suffer catastrophic failure to their HVAC and pay exorbitant sums of money to repair or replace same; 4. Complainant suspects that the reason Bonham would not provide the TXV part # is because Bonham intended to "up-charge" for the part by at least 100.00; 5. Complainant believes that Bonham's negligent behavior could very well lead to complainant's expedited death; 6. Complainant believes Bonham's negligent behavior directly caused complainant a financial loss in excess of 11,000.00; 7. At no time did the owner of Bonham attempt to contact the complainant, rectify the situation and salvage a 19 year customer relationship; 8. Complainant believes Bonham should be investigated to learn if this case is isolated of if other customers have suffered from similar presumed coincidences; and, Complainant believes that Bonham is at a minimum suspect of Fraud, Negligence, Unjust Enrichment and Unscrupulous Business Pract read more

COMPLAINT AS FILED WITH THE MICHIGAN STATE ATTORNEY GENERALS OFFICE ON 7/23/2019 (PART 1) Consumer Compliant Reference # KRZYZ-2019-01RK On or about 6/28/2019, just after issuance of an excessive heat warning by local meteorologists, Bonham Heating and Cooling, Inc., Gladwin, Michigan 48624 (hereinafter referred to as "Bonham") sent their technician "Justin Reid" (hereinafter referred to as "Justin") to Complainants residence located at 518 S. Hockaday Rd., Gladwin, Michigan 48624 to perform semi-annual maintenance in accordance with the Semi-Annual Maintenance Contract, (attached hereto and incorporated herein by reference as EXHIBIT 1). Justin performed the maintenance as expected and left the premises. That same evening (6/28/2019) the Central Air Conditioning ceased to operate. {It is important to point out that a near identical incident occurred during the spring of the previous year (2018). Maintenance was conducted by Bonham and the Central Air Conditioning failed - requiring a return trip by Bonham and extra charges for repair}. On 7/01/2019, complainant contacted Bonham as soon as the business was open (approximately 8:30 AM) and spoke with an office person named "Bree". Having explained the failed Central Air Conditioning Bree stated that Justin would return that afternoon to troubleshoot the problem. Justin did in fact return that afternoon and stated that he believed the TXV Valve (hereinafter referred to as the "TXV") has failed and needed to be replaced. Asked for options and costs complainant was told by Justin that a new TXV would cost around 900.00 for parts and labor while a new Central Air Conditioning unit would cost around 3,500.00. Complainant chose the new TXV. Justin stated that he would go back to the office and look up the cost and call complainant later that day. Having not received a return call by approximately 4:00 PM, complainant called Bonham and spoke with Bree who stated that the new TXV would cost 277.00, but they would not receive it until 7/08/2019. Complainant then became frantic as complainant is suffering from Stage 3 Heart Failure - has a medical prescription for Central Air Conditioning and the loss of Central Air Conditioning could cause or contribute to complainants death. Complainant asked Bree for the part number so complainant could order the TXV himself and receive the part sooner and Bree stated that she "did not know the part number". Complainant then referred to the original contract paperwork (attached hereto and incorporated herein by reference as Exhibit 2, Pages 1 through 3) of the Central Air Conditioning Unit complainant purchased from Bonham on 6/26/2009. This original contract paperwork identified the Product Number of the installed Payne Air Conditioning unit as PA13NR036000AHAA. This product number immediately referenced the EXACT OEM TXV valve for this Payne Central Air Conditioning unit as Part # EA36YD037. Complainant immediately ordered Part # EA36YD037 from Amazon.com for 159.42, (see Amazon print out page for Part # EA36YD037 (attached hereto and incorporated herein by reference as Exhibit 3) and immediately contacted the original seller via telephone to expedite shipping of same. The original seller agreed to ship the TXV next day air, Priority Overnight. On 7/02/2019 complainant received the EXACT OEM TXV late in the afternoon and contacted Bonham about 4:00 PM and informed Bree that complainant had the TXV in hand. Bree stated that Justin was already scheduled for the morning on 7/03/2019 but would try to get him out to complainant's residence the afternoon of 7/03/2019. On 7/03/2019, complainant drove to Bonham's location and spoke with whom complainant believed was the owner. Complainant explained that the EXACT OEM TXV was at the residence, that complainant suffered from Stage 3 Heart Failure, that complainant continued to suffer under this stressful situation, that complainant already has extreme difficulty controlling complainant's blood pressure, that complainant had already spent approximately 1,000.00 at Lowes Home Improvement Store on Portable Air Conditioning Units as a temporary relief measure, that only complainant's living room was "livable" at this time and all other rooms at the residence were blocked off so as not to overtax the Portable Air Conditioning Units and that this situation was critical and needed to be addressed as soon as possible. The presumed "owner" acknowledged the criticality of the situation and stated that Justin would be there as soon as possible. At approximately 12:00 PM (noon) Justin arrived at complainant's residence and immediately stated that it was the wrong TXV valve. Justin did not open the box to inspect the part. Justin simply saw "Carrier" written on the end of the box and stated that complainant had a Rheem Air Conditioning Unit and this was a Carrier part (Payne is a sub-product of Carrier). read more

My furnace quit working last night, and even set off my carbon monoxide alarm. I called Bonham this morning and they were able to get a technician out to my house right away. He had all the right parts and tools to fix my furnace and make it safe again. I will definitely call Bonham next time my furnace needs service. BTW, everyone should have a working carbon monoxide alarm. read more

After being a loyal customer of Bonham for nearly 20 years, our furnace was not working at all on a Saturday. When the tech, Justin, responded to our call, he was incredibly rude, arguing with me and stating that he wouldn't come to look because this isn't our primary residence. He even asked what county we live in. Given the situation with COVID, I completely understand if this is a company policy. However, this was an emergency no heat situation, and the furnace is not located inside the house. Safety precautions can be taken. We would have worn masks and we could have controlled the thermostat from inside the house while he was in the crawl space. Eventually the tech acknowledged this and threw out a crazy cost for a service call, and continued, again rudely, giving us a time limit for how long he could be at our house. We declined, and another furnace company came and fixed the furnace for less than half of what this tech said Bonham would charge. We will no longer use Bonham Heating and Cooling. Professionalism, kindness, and politeness are important attributes of any company we choose. Bonham clearly does not require this of its employees. read more
