She wasn't the nicest, but I'm willing to put up with some gruffness from an expert. However, there were so many mistakes during the design process I barely received my engagement ring during the year long engagement before the wedding. The ring was beautiful from far away, but super sloppy close up. The spacing and height was off on the side diamonds, but it was a 3 hour trip to go there and she was so rude all the time that I gave up on getting it fixed. The wedding band was not what I expected because the diamonds in it were set in a channel with blank space on either side and looks bad. The rings were cleaned and checked there for 4 years or so. I had to stop wearing rings just after that and I was always worried about the integrity of the engagement ring. The rings were cleaned and stored in the box for the last 12 years (which was also cheap and didn't hold up). I just took the ring out to get resized and wear again. And all those sloppy areas--the ring is actually breaking down. I couldn't believe when I looked under a loupe at it. The gold channels are actually breaking off. This comes from sloppy technique in its creation. This ring should have lasted a lifetime, but it's going to cost me $1,700 to get it fixed after 5 years of wear?! Sloppy, shoddy work by a shop run by an incredibly rude person whose business model seems to be so difficult to work with (after she gets your money), that it is a horrific experience regardless, and you end up with a subpar piece at an expensive price. I also witnessed her being very nice to some people and rude to others, so maybe part of it is about how much money she thinks you have and whether she has gotten your money yet. I got the sense she prefers to sell jewelry she has already created, but when I was there, the engagement settings were all pretty similar and not what I wanted.

They adjusted the bracelet as I waited too which was much appreciated, even after I offered to leave it until later. I did have a watch I did not buy from them adjusted about a year ago and the service was very reasonably priced, especially considering I tried myself and gauged the band. I definitely recommend giving this local shop a shot before you buy from a chain or online. They have a nice sized clearance section and other sales too. They are very friendly and listen to what you are looking for when it comes to picking the right piece. My first experience here had to be about 10-12 years ago. I had purchased an inexpensive Claddagh ring in 9K gold on a trip to Ireland back in the late 1990s. The ring cost about $150. My Claddagh was really special to me because I'm part Irish and it was purchased on a vacation. The ring came with a created emerald (fake), but I somehow managed to knock the stone out and lose it. I went to a couple of area jewelers to get quotes on fixing this inexpensive stone and ring. I was shocked by what some people wanted to charge me! I came to this shop and John charged me a LOT less than what the other stores quoted me for a repair and resize. Fast forward to the current day, my Claddagh ring looks great and the stone is still securely in place. I think this speaks to the fact that John clearly does quality work. I stopped in this week when I was back in Albany. I assisted my friend in purchasing an engagement ring here. It was still a pleasure to come here and no pressure. We were shown various diamond options and I think the pricing was fair compared to the expensive mall jewelers. While I was in here I talked to John and Lucy about my own engagement ring. My husband purchased it elsewhere, but it's a 6 prong Tiffany style setting. I had bent one of the prongs about two years ago. I was lucky, John fixed it for me that day, it only took about 10 minutes. After my ring was repaired, cleaned and polished, it looked GORGEOUS. He did such a nice job fixing it up for me. I went to see my sight impaired grandmother the next day and she even commented on how she liked my ring. My mom also loves coming in here too and has had a couple of great visits with jewelry repairs. She also found John and Lucy to be very pleasant. I especially like that this is a family owned and operated business. I moved out of the Capital Region in 2014, but I always recommend this spot to my friends when they need a jeweler. Wish I could find a place like this where I currently live.
