Sold some items in the shop. Owner was very honest and forthright with the deal. Took less than 5 minutes. Very pleasant experience. Looks like a HUGE and interesting inventory on hand to browse. Need to go back soon! read more

I don't understand all of the negative reviews here. I came in for the first time last week to sell some silver, including some commemoratives, and received very FAIR offers, having done research on the values beforehand. While I didn't think the value was right on a couple items, I simply took them out of the sale and the transaction went smoothly. If you don't like the quote, don't sell! They are a business that needs to make money and it's more likely that you're overvaluing your stuff. The person I worked with was very kind and professional, and I'm happy to support this local coin shop in this tough environment, given the recent (silly) tax changes in Maryland that will hurt these local stores. read more

I ordered & received 10 "gold" coins But they are not gold as a magnet sticks to them. They want the order number to send them back for a refund. Still looking. My order number is 139344025, delivered 3/14/2025. Where I return them for my refund? read more

Negotiated a deal to sell them one of my rare banknotes, then they backed out and tried to offer less. I walked away and will never return.

Backed out of an agreement to sell me some items after accepting my money. Avoid like the plague!

Surprised at their prices to buy my gold coins - other dealers in the area were $20-$30 over spot, they came in $40 under spot per coin. Never seen a dealer offer to buy so much under spot when everyone else is buying over spot? read more

I called ahead to let them know I had some questions and was interested in selling a coin collection. I was met at the counter by a middle aged man who I found to be smug and dismissive. He looked at my list and told me most items on the list are only worth their price in silver or gold. I pointed out rare Indian Head gold coins and Morgan Silver Dollars on the list. He did not want to see the photos of them. I can understand all of that, but then I told him I had a few questions about the collection. He dismissed my first question and showed no interest in further conversation. Given that the website offered free verbal appraisals, counsel to collectors, and so on, I was taken aback. I had a feeling that being a young woman was a detriment in the interaction. I would not want to do business with them. read more

I had a coin collection I was interested in selling, approximately 65 coins. The staff was courteous and helpful. ..their coin expert promptly examined the coins and gave me an estimate . since I am not a coin expert, I had previously decided to get 3 estimates and take the highest. Of the other two, One offered me 10% more and the other offered me 50% more so I did not sell to bonanza. read more

I enjoyed visiting the coin shop today to get more information about a 1923 Peace Dollar I had. I collected coins as a child but is now wanting to get back in the hobby of coin collecting. The owner Julian was knowledgeable and helpful when asking my questions about my Peace Dollar. I then purchased a US Mint silver proof set of my birth year as my birthday is soon. Thank you Bonanza Coins. read more

I walked in and was greeted by a young guy at the desk and said "Hello Im looking to get some information on some coins" he called the owner The coins I have are from the 1800's and international and even some with printing errors. The owner came to see what coins I had. He was eager to see what coins I had but did not engage into any small talk about my coins. He layed my coins (over 75) on the table examined them and said "Ill give you $20-$25) I said "thats it" and he said "thats it" and walked away. He left me there to put my coins back in the containers. The vibe from the owner was creepy and snooty read more

Great place to have your coins valued. Fair assessment and purchase. Fair and honest.

Very Nice Group of people in a relaxed atmosphere... Employees are open to conversation and certainly have a wide variety of inventory .... As far as selling precious metals, a guy named Alex is very personable and pays very fair! Best Coin shop in Silver Spring! read more

Eight days after my earlier review on 3/12/13, I received an email from Sam Leidman, Julian Leidman's son. Sam apologized, and explained that Julian "realized an error that he made and selfishly tried to reconcile it without [my] consent." Sam continued by saying that his father's behavior was "a poor business decision, and quite unethical." I agree with Sam's assessment. Sam said that "the bank did not stop payment of that check to [me] and this matter is now closed." I was not convinced that the check had cleared, so I waiting a full month before accessing the funds that came from the check to be sure that the check had cleared. The check did clear, so it was not necessary for me to take Bonanza Coins to small claims court, and I now consider the matter closed as well. I cannot say whether or not Julian intended to deceive me, or if his actions were just a result of bad judgment, but my interaction with Bonanza Coins left a bad taste in my mouth, and I will not be returning. read more

This is THE local coin store in the area. Excellent, knowledgeable staff and awesome inventory for bullion and numismatics.

Imagine getting a call from a coin dealer after you bought $7,000+ of coins on his website that he wants you to pay another $1000 because he feels the coins are worth more than he had for sale on his site or he will cancel the order and not ship the goods you ordered. That is my experience with Bonanza Coins. Stay far away from this joke of a business owner. Plenty of professionals to work with who won't bait and switch you when ordering. read more

Julian is responsive and was very accommodating with me. We were able to quickly find common ground on a rare coin price and I purchased it. I'll be back. read more

They had a great selection of almost everything. The prices were decent and I could tell they genuinely cared. They gave great advice on how to continue Collecting. One problem was that there were no unsearched wheat cents. read more

Very professional, polite and knowledgeable. I highly recommend Bonanza Coins. They will get my repeat business!

I dealt with Alex at Bonanza. He was friendly, professional, and my transaction was completed in a timely manner. I came in to sell a gold chain I had, and it was apparently worth more than I originally thought. Alex seemed very knowledgeable and I would recommend dealing with him for anyone looking to sell jewelry- I had a great experience here! read more

An amazing place to buy and sell. You won't find anyone with more experience and knowledge of coins and currency in the DMV.

I've been to Bonanza twice iver the last several weeks to sell gold and silver coins. Julian Leidman waited on me quickly and courteously. I was paid a fair price for the coins I had to sell and did not leave with a bitter taste in my mouth as sometimes happens when selling things to a retailer. I'm sure many people reading this are first and foremost interested in how fairly and honestly they are dealt with when selling. They were fair and honest with me. Now to customer service...I waited on promptly and Mr. Leidman was very pleasant to deal with. He was very amicable to my wife and my kids. The transaction was completed much more quickly than I had expected. I highly recommend Bonanza to anyone looking to sell prescious metals. read more

I went to Bonanza because I inherited 1874 silver candlestick holders from my mother. Alex took his time to research them and he provided me with a number of options to sell them. I got $780 for them, which I wasn't expecting. He was very professional to work with and I believe he had my best interests at heart. I highly recommend Alex and Bonanza. read more

I first discovered Bonanza Coins a few years ago when I was looking to sell some gold coins. I called a number of places in the Silver Spring and D.C. areas and found that hardly any companies seemed to care about returning a phone call. The owner of Bonanza Coins, Julien, told me to come on by. He explained to me what I had, what the retail value was, and what he could pay as a dealer looking to re-sell the coins. I appreciated the straight-forward approach and promptly sold several thousand dollars worth of the gold coins. I continued to turn to Bonanza Coins when I had other pieces to sell. He was even kind enough to evaluate a huge collection of coins that had been donated for a charity fundraiser I was running. I later learned that Alex Dearth worked with him and that he bought gold and silver jewelry. I began selling my jewelry to Alex and my coins to Julien. I have tried a number of coin and jewelry buyers over the past few years but find Julien and Alex to be exceptionally honest, reliable people. I would put them both in the top tier of gold and jewelry buyers and often recommend them to other people. read more

First time sellng gold and silver. They were nice and professional and funny. I think I got a fair deal. I would use them again.

I help to organize people's homes in the area and came across Bonanza Coins several months ago when a client wanted to sell some estate jewelry. I dealt with Alex and have been going back to him for my current clients' needs, have referred friends, and have used Bonanza myself whenever I come across gold or silver pieces that I'm not wearing anymore that could possibly be of some value. Alex answers all of my questions politely, has a vast knowledge of his business, is very courteous and I feel like he is as honest as they get. As long as they are in business, I will be a loyal customer. read more

I am new to the silver spring area and was wary about selling some jewelry that I hadn't had a chance to with my previous gold buyer. However, the crew at bonanza are both fair in their prices and friendly in their attitudes. I have done business with them multiple times now and am extremely satisfied. I highly suggest dropping in! read more

Over the past year, I have visited Bonanza three times to sell off my coin collection. Alex and Julian both served me with the same diligence and attention. On two of the three occasions I was the only customer in the store. When there was someone there ahead of me, I left my coins with them while I went off to have some lunch and do a bit of shopping. They took their time to look through what I had to offer and gave me what I thought was a fair price for the coins I had--most of which was of little numismatic value. I dropped them one star because on one of my trips I was given a printed check that could only be cashed at the Eagle Bank a short distance from the store. This was not a major concern for me, but others who needed to be able to put that money directly into a bank account might not have been pleased with that arrangement. Still, if you have coins (or gold and silver of any kind) to sell, I recommend this shop in the heart of Silver Spring. read more
