I don't understand all of the negative reviews here. I came in for the first time last week to sell some silver, including some commemoratives, and received very FAIR offers, having done research on the values beforehand. While I didn't think the value was right on a couple items, I simply took them out of the sale and the transaction went smoothly. If you don't like the quote, don't sell! They are a business that needs to make money and it's more likely that you're overvaluing your stuff. The person I worked with was very kind and professional, and I'm happy to support this local coin shop in this tough environment, given the recent (silly) tax changes in Maryland that will hurt these local stores. read more

I called ahead to let them know I had some questions and was interested in selling a coin collection. I was met at the counter by a middle aged man who I found to be smug and dismissive. He looked at my list and told me most items on the list are only worth their price in silver or gold. I pointed out rare Indian Head gold coins and Morgan Silver Dollars on the list. He did not want to see the photos of them. I can understand all of that, but then I told him I had a few questions about the collection. He dismissed my first question and showed no interest in further conversation. Given that the website offered free verbal appraisals, counsel to collectors, and so on, I was taken aback. The staff was courteous and helpful. ..their coin expert promptly examined the coins and gave me an estimate . since I am not a coin expert, I had previously decided to get 3 estimates and take the highest. Of the other two, One offered me 10% more and the other offered me 50% more so I did not sell to bonanza. read more

Eight days after my earlier review on 3/12/13, I received an email from Sam Leidman, Julian Leidman's son. Sam apologized, and explained that Julian "realized an error that he made and selfishly tried to reconcile it without [my] consent." Sam continued by saying that his father's behavior was "a poor business decision, and quite unethical." I agree with Sam's assessment. Sam said that "the bank did not stop payment of that check to [me] and this matter is now closed." I was not convinced that the check had cleared, so I waiting a full month before accessing the funds that came from the check to be sure that the check had cleared. The check did clear, so it was not necessary for me to take Bonanza Coins to small claims court, and I now consider the matter closed as well. I cannot say whether or not Julian intended to deceive me, or if his actions were just a result of bad judgment, but my interaction with Bonanza Coins left a bad taste in my mouth, and I will not be returning. read more

Imagine getting a call from a coin dealer after you bought $7,000+ of coins on his website that he wants you to pay another $1000 because he feels the coins are worth more than he had for sale on his site or he will cancel the order and not ship the goods you ordered. That is my experience with Bonanza Coins. Stay far away from this joke of a business owner. Plenty of professionals to work with who won't bait and switch you when ordering. read more

Over the past year, I have visited Bonanza three times to sell off my coin collection. Alex and Julian both served me with the same diligence and attention. On two of the three occasions I was the only customer in the store. When there was someone there ahead of me, I left my coins with them while I went off to have some lunch and do a bit of shopping. They took their time to look through what I had to offer and gave me what I thought was a fair price for the coins I had--most of which was of little numismatic value. I dropped them one star because on one of my trips I was given a printed check that could only be cashed at the Eagle Bank a short distance from the store. This was not a major concern for me, but others who needed to be able to put that money directly into a bank account might not have been pleased with that arrangement.
