We ordered from the east to see photo descriptions on the menu. We ordered the Spicy Udon Noodle Stir Fry with Chicken, and the Ramen with Pork/Chive Dumplings! Both were so delicious, hot, and fresh. The Udon came with rice balls rolled in sesame and nori, and the chicken was perfect and tasty. The Ramen was piping hot, perfectly spicy, and had egg in the broth. The dumplings were very delicious with great scallion flavor. Small fridge of beverages, L&P, sodas, water, and more fruit drinks! They also had made to order sushi for takeaway, and a nice little counter with stools if you prefer to eat in. Would eat here over and over! Go eat here. The owner also told us many great spots to check out in Auckland and marked them on our map for us. What a delight! Thanks so much. 5 Stars doesn't do it justice.

The staff are all really friendly and supply you with lots of genuine smiles and conversation as you peruse their fresh sushi collection. Though partial to teriyaki chicken sushi, I have also tried their rice balls and crispy chicken sushi options and they were fantastic. All the ingredients were very fresh and tasty - you could tell none of it had been sitting on the shelves very long - always a good sign. Another good sign is that every time I have been to Sushi Wasabi there have been other people in the store - and many of them have been Japanese. It's always reassuring to see people of the culture eating from these places as it makes you feel like the food is authentic and as it should be! Prices are pretty standard, so although Sushi Wasabi is not cheaper than the usual, trusted St Pierre's I do urge you to give this place a try is you're in the area. The St Luke's shop is my local and I have to say the staff are super friendly. There is one man in particular who always brings a smile to my face. I think he must be the owner or manager because he really cares about the business. You can always hear him yelling out to the crowds; 'fresh sushi and seafood!' like a street vendor and he always gives you a big smile when you buy a box of sushi. A handy tip: get there just after 6pm, that's when they have all their specials on and you can get a cheap, healthy sushi dinner.

Location is prime for students, corporate heads and maybe some daytime boozers. My girlfriend and I stumbled upon this place on our way to inspect an apartment in CBD (I wouldn't recommend it) when we walked pass Nuri Maru and saw the $4 box deals. Whaaaat!? 4 bucks!?! We had about 10-minutes before inspection but I didn't want to miss out on that chicken karaage box or the spam masubi or the assorted salmon sushi. Soooo we detoured right inside. Pretty fun atmosphere you'd come to find at a typical Korean-style sushi restaurant - there was even a giant flat screen TV with K-Pop (Korean Pop) music videos on haha. We paid for our boxes and took a seat when a lovely lady from behind the counter asked if we wanted Miso Soup. I declined at first thinking she was trying to upsell me even after we had already paid. But then I noticed the beautiful sign that read "Free Miso for every $5 purchase" or something like that.. I saw "FREE" "Miso" and "$5" so I that's all I cared about. I quickly retracted my declination and said with conviction "YES!" She asked if we wanted two (one for my gf I guess haha).. Again, I said "YES!" as I nodded my head like an Asian school boy. Everything was surprisingly good for something that's been sitting out for who knows how long. The salmon roll was especially delicious - it had that milky, soft, melt-in-your-mouth texture.. mMMMmMmmM We're definitely coming back again.. maybe tomorrow since we have another inspection in the area hahah

Now that was really good too. We heard him cooking this dish right after we ordered. This place is really good you will not be disappointed.

We are big Japanese food fans and were happy to see the new place arrive, although I was a little nervous about their credibility due to the cartoon-ish looking characters on the signs out the front. Inside is a little comical as well but in a cool way; the sushi is set up really well in sealed transparent cabinets that allow for easy selection and self service. Also, the food is super cheap, they have the brightest looking wasabi and ginger that I have ever seen, they offered friendly, helpful service and the food was fresh and delicious! They also have a food hygiene sign of A, despite the fact that they have only opened within the month, which makes me suspicious of my dinner nearby a few nights ago in Avondale at a takeaway shop ('All Wrapped Up') that have been open for almost six months and have a sign that reads "grade pending due to new business".... hmmmm....

The drinks list is basic but the few wines are well chosen and affordably priced, as is the incredible food. They do the usual Japanese favourites but I would recommend going for the Yakisoba or my favourite, especially in Winter, the Soup Noodles. The Lemon Chilli is the best and comes with your choice of Udon or Soba noodles. I get my Vegetarian version without the tempura batter and easy on the tofu. Indeed I am a person who struggles to order off the menu (I want it my way y'know?) and Banzai is another of my favourite establishments that has no problem with this. The salads are also delicious, particularly the not-very-Japanese-sounding Feta and Sundried Tomato. New visitors should definitely try the Korokke (potato cakes with sweet dipping sauce) and the creamy Potato Salad. The staff are absolutely lovely and never complain about us customising our dishes in a myriad of ways. You can phone ahead for takeaways or ask for a doggy bag if you over-order and they even have a small library of truly classy coffee table books to read while you wait for your takeaway. We always leave to a chorus of "thank you very much" from the entire staff. Me and mine have a lot of love for Banzai, so much so, we have even learned to copy the correct cultural protocol when paying at the end of the evening. Banzai makes me very ureshii.
