Primark

I'm not usually a fan of Primark, but the Darlington store is impressive. Darlington is an…read moreaverage-sized town, yet its Primark store is one of the biggest I've seen, and it stocks a lot of items that I've only previously seen in the Oxford St, London store, such as its skincare ranges. The Primark store is now located in the Cornmill shopping centre, on the site of what once was, the C & A store, after moving from a location on the outskirts of town a few years ago. The Primark in Darlington is the first I'd ever heard of, a lot of years ago now, and before it ever became fashionable. The windows of the store always look inviting, with lots of models, male and female, young and old, sporting Primark's newest clothing ranges and accessories. At the entrance to the store there's usually a couple of sales racks, which does make the store look a bit cheap, in my opinion, but the rest of the store is well looked after, with tidy racks and rails and no clothes/hangers cluttering up the floors. This store has an extensive underwear and nightwear section on the ground floor as well. Upstairs, the menswear, childrenswear and Homeware are all squeezed on to one floor, so their ranges aren't quite as impressive as the women's, but there's still a decent level of stock, and it's all clean and tidy there too. This Primark does have a good selection of products that other Primarks I've visited don't have - the aforementioned 'smellies' and a gift section, with make-up sets and Christmas crackers.

Really like this chain, good prices for nice products, always come here when in Darlington. I'm…read moresure this chain will keep us clothed during this long hard financial spell.

The Great Goth

The Great Goth

The Great Goth has moved to a bigger premises in Whitby which means they can now stock more stuff…read moreand it's not all packed into a pokey little shop - you can actually walk around without feeling claustrophobic! And during the Whitby Goth Weekend they open a back room so there's even more choice. Or you can just buy online from their website if you can't get to Whitby (or if you can't find the shop; it's now along a back street). It has all the traditional goth-style clothes: velvet dresses, frilly shirts, corset tops etc. and a few steampunk-style items too. They sell men and women's clothes, plus accessories like bags, jewelry etc. My one criticism is that if you're looking for anything different or unusual then you won't find it here, it's all very much the generic/everyday goth clothes. The prices are average for your typical goth shop i.e. it can seem quite expensive compared to High Street fashions. I've never been that impressed with the staff: they never seem to be alternative and sometimes have music on which is definitely not goth! They're friendly enough but as they're not into the goth culture or lifestyle then I wouldn't trust them for an honest opinion. They're not open every day so either check the opening times if you're going to Whitby specifically to visit The Great Goth otherwise you could be disappointed. Overall, a good shop to get some lovely, high-quality goth clothes. It's well worth a visit if you're in Whitby.
