After checking out most of the interesting parts of the Historic Center here in Grosseto we looked…read morefor a place to grab some light lunch. It was a sunday and some restaurants on our list were closed. This one here was on our list, it's a bit hiding in the south of the historic center. And it was opened. There were only three tables that day, but it was already past 1pm. The interior is incredibly charming with the stone walls and the wine bottles on the wall. Feels rustic in a very positive way. Even though it has the "old" look, everything here is in perfect shape, order and condition. Wonderfully executed. We felt ordered a plate of salumi and cheese and a plate of crostini. Two glasses of White wine with. Meat was of good quality, the cheese on the other hand was just average. The Crostini were very good. Nice, fresh, crispy. And all were made by order (you can see inside the kitchen). The one with the liver and the one with the olive topping were our favourites. Staff/owners here were very friendly, made us feel very welcome. There's also a - very nicely done again - bathroom in case you need one. All in all a good choice. Prices for the food were fair, only the Wine prices were a bit steep - 7 Euros a glass. In case you bring your furry best friend with: Dogs are welcome even inside the restaurant.

Super friendly service as well. We will definitely return!

That might explain the 25-pounds I gained while living in Italy but that's a whole other story... The cappuccinos are out of this world. Strong and smooth all at the same time, creamy with the perfect amount of foam. Exactly what you need to wake up in the morning. Their pastries, all made in house, are equally delightful. I usually just grabbed a single brioche to accompany my coffee but occasionally sprung for a dozen to take into work. I bought my mom a birthday cake at Roxy Bar once, too. It was all SO good! Staff are incredibly warm and friendly. They were always happy to see me and put up with my awful Italian for 4 solid years. If you find yourself anywhere close to Ponsacco (about an hour from Florence, 30 minutes from Pisa), be sure to make a visit to Roxy Bar! I promise it will be a highlight of your trip. I'm going back to Italy for a visit in August and Roxy Bar will be my first stop!

It's a pretty small place, so I can understand that. Everything is vegan and organic, it doesn't get much better than that! I ordered the gnocchi which came in a red pepper sauce, then got a side of grilled veggies (which that day turned out to be peppers). The gnocchi was very tasty. The portion was a bit small but for 5Eu it was reasonable. The grilled veggies were smothered in oil which was a little strange. There was a huge selection of desserts to choose from that day, yet somehow I found myself gravitating toward the gelato. I got the chocolate & hazlenut which was delicious and a great way to cool off.

When you see that many people in line, you get in it! And I'm so glad we did. Ordering was not easy but we managed. The gelato flavors were inventive and looked all-natural (no fake bright colors and dyes here). I had the Zuppa Inglese flavor and it was some of the best gelato I've ever had. This is a truly local spot in a small, working class town. If you are an "uncomfortable" traveler, this place isn't for you. It is NOT touristy and only Italian is spoken. But if you want to soak up the local culture, make it a point to stop here for some ice cream!
