This really has to be one of the best or the best Indian Takeaways I have ever tried in my life !!!…read moreYay a new favourite takeaway for my family. The food is very authentic and has that real homemade taste, not like some other nasty Indian takeaways. Their food is just wonderful, I haven't tried everything yet, but I eventually will. But we have tried the Butter chicken (as you do), Lamb Korma, Paneer Saagwala, Chicken Biryaani, Tikka Masala, Vegetable Jalfrezy and most of the naans, I have to say every single one of these dishes is just as tasty as the next. The only thing they don't do and I wish they did is the Whole Tandoori Chicken. I had a bunch of friends over one night and we ordered about 8 dishes and everyone was raving about it, and there was nothing left, every last morsel had been eaten !! Either they were hungry or the food was just so great. This Indian also does not give me a sore stomach like some others that I have tried. If you are in or near the area do not hesitate to try Curry Sutra - Indian Soul Fuel.

The second visit to Sagar in Birkenhead, was a takeout meal, as I wanted to sample if they could out do our fave village curry restaurant. I ordered Butter Chicken, and Lamb Rogan Josh, and ofcourse poppadoms, and garlic naan to accompany. The dishes were both aromatic and spicy with flavour however seemed to lack the tidy slices of meat we always had from our other local. Instead I had large chunks of meat, which kind of put me off eating the meals. The Garlic Naan was huge! When I say massive I am not exaggerating at all. I could not tell whether we were just over served in size or if this was the norm. I just think that they did very well with the spices and amount of food; however I think they could better in presentation and slices of meat.

In fact, when our flat has an Indian night we now have to visit two Indian restaurant to pick up food as two flatmates love Sagar and two prefer another place. To be honest we don't venture much past the classic kiwi butter chicken on most occasions, but I have tried the spinach and cheese based, Palak Paneer, which is a great option for vegetarians. Don't let the interior fool you, this place is surprisingly good!

I was expecting sort of run of the mill butter chicken like you'd expect from a cheap place like this. So I was so surprised to be absolutely stoked with my meal! It was awesome!! Nice and creamy and delicious and the naan bread was great too! I couldn't really believe it... I went away and told all my friends about it. The only thing is, the next time I came along (with my friends who I'd raved about the curry to) it wasn't quite as good. It was still very yummy but not the crazy delectable meal I'd had before. Still very satisfying. And great for cheap curry! Super quick too!

My impression was that the food was good, considering that this is a pretty modest and no-frills place. Certainly not the best curry I've had, but quite satisfying. The butter chicken was the better of the two mains ~ buttery, just like it says on the box, and generally pleasing. The tikka didn't agree with me so much, but then again none of the dishes were really familiar to me and I was shooting in the dark in terms of my choices. The 'fried onion thingies' were a tad soggy, but good on the whole; the samosas weren't the best. Service was really friendly. I think the fellow even undercharged me for the sides, because looking at the 'fried onion thingies,' I'd thought they were quite large (and hence that there were only a few left in the cabinet) and so I told him to just give me everything that was there. Only later did I realize there were like 10 of them, and yet he only charged me I think $8 for all the sides, even though the 'fried onion thingies' were $1 each and the samosas $2 each.
