It's not a huge building, but hats don't take up a ton of room.
Marc K.

I have been meaning to get to Bollman's outlet for a while now and I finally made the trek. And it's well worth it! The building itself isn't that large. A simple cinder-block building, about 40' wide by 20' deep. It does get terrific daylight (useful when you want to judge the true color of a hat without needing to walk outside with it), and there are mirrors all around to take a look at yourself. Remember that it *is* an outlet, so while the prices are dramatically better than a traditional hat store, you will have some frustration in that you will pick up the wrong size hat a number of times until you find that style in your size, -or- maybe you *won't*! (remember, this is an outlet!) The clerk offered some advice when I asked for her opinion, which was appreciated. For instance, two of the three Bailey of Hollywood Polypropylene hats I purchased for Summer came in my size in either a Trilby or Pork Pie, but we both agreed that I looked better in the Trilby. Not all of the hats were synthetic, I don't want to give you that impression -- there were plenty of felt fedoras, wool hats with or without ear flaps for winter, tweed and wool flat caps, straw Panama and cowboy hats, etc., etc. Not too many hats for women, but as the clerk explained, their inventory across the board changes a few time per month to a few times per week. Hat prices are quite reasonable; most are outlet-priced at $25-49, with the possible exception of the ones behind the clerk by the register. Winter beanies with pom-poms were between $15-18. If you are serious about your hats, plan to spend a few *HOURS* poking around. Best bet is to bring a list of what you already have, so you know where you have holes in your collection. Or take photos of them on your phone beforehand. If you want to get in a meal before or after you shop, I suggest Shady Maple Smorgasbord or Pancake Farm (it's a diner), both are about 10 miles/15 minutes away. Bollman Hat Factory Outlet is also just 6 miles, 12 minutes from The Green Dragon (a famous indoor/outdoor flea market) -- but remember that the Green Dragon is *only* open on Fridays.

Large selection of hats! Good quality, not overpriced.

This is not an outlet store.. it is a factory store. First quality hats at very reduced prices. Large selection to choose from, and selection is rotated quite often.

I love this place! A tremendous selection of hats, mostly made at their local employee-owned factory. Support US & local owned business!

I learned about Bollman at the Cooper Hewitt Museum. As the oldest-running hatmaker in the country,…read moreBollman was part of the museum's "Made in America" exhibit. The kicker is, I was oblivious to having passed their factory outlet plenty of times while antiquing in Adamstown. On Saturday we took a drive to check out the store. The outlet is small, easy to miss, and shares a parking lot with Mad Hatter Antiques. The factory itself is located a mile or so away. (I wonder if they offer tours .....) As with any outlet, selections are limited. My first-choice hats were either too small or too big. Mediums were in short supply, but I didn't leave empty-handed. The woman running the shop is helpful and friendly. I asked why there were so many Kangol hats. (Kangol is a British company.) In 2002 Bollman bought global rights to Kangol incorporating British methods in manufacturing their products here in Pennsylvania. If you visit Adamstown, you might want to stop by the factory outlet, if nothing more than to see hats made by a company that's over 150 years old!

As the oldest hat manufacturer in the US, their quality is unmatched. While the factory store is a bit of a trip for me, staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming,. maintaining a consiatantly high standaed of service, A special thank you to Judy, who went above and beyond with personalized service. She measured my head to ensure the perfect fit and provided feedback on the size, style and color of the hats I was considering. The store has a genuinely wide selection of quality headgear. Thanks to Judy's help, I walked out with four hats, including three fantastic Kangol styles without exceeding my budget! And what value. MAJOR TIP: Judy mentioned they are having a huge sale! Starting Black Friday and running through the following Monday, all hats will be 50% off. If you love hats, this is the time to make a trip. Highly recommended

Install vendor and the store didn't coordinate. Probably had to call them 10 times to follow up on various issues. Must have talked to every manager to try to get things straight. Never did get everything but GAVE UP. SOOO frustrating! Love the end result of the closets that WERE installed, but many apologies from staff and a $250 gift card just doesn't make up for the hassle.

Had to wait in line at 11am, no big deal. It just was unnecessary because the girl literally cleaned the counter and everything between every single guest. It's silly because my item didn't even touch the counter I handed it right to her and she had so much protective gear on . I just think if it ever were to get busier than the 4 people in line on a week day at 11am, I don't know how they'd handle it. It should be the customer's choice. Regardless. There was tons of staff in store all stocking, none asked for help. Which is fine by me, but I know that deters people sometimes so it's worth mentioning. All in all my one and only experience with container store is okay.
