I got a referral to see Dr. Eric Schmidt. He looked at my images. Then he took some of his own. He said I did not have a torn rotator cuff. He said it was a shoulder impingement and the radiologist was wrong. Turns out Dr. Schmidt was right. He was patient in explaining things including drawing a picture of what was going on with my shoulder. He gave me 3 options and recommended the 2nd one. I took his advice. He injected an anti-inflammatory into my shoulder and prescribed some additional anti-inflammatory pills along with physical therapy. My shoulder today is like new. No unnecessary rotator cuff surgery or other invasive surgery. I highly recommend Dr. Schmidt.

He told me I only needed some bone shaved away from my cage. Then two days later I saw he did not put anything in my chart notes, except "reviewed MRI, no findings, referred to pain management." I obviously saw a red flag so I saw a spine surgeon at Stanford and a neurosurgeon at UCSF, both told me the same thing. The cage he placed in me was not centered, it was off to the left and oversized!! Therefore it had been sitting on my nerve since I woke up in recovery and began complaining of nerve pain, which was not there prior to surgery. I had revision surgery and the surgeon had to shave the cage away from my nerve to half the size. Now I am currently working through recovery hoping my nerve will recover after the cage was compressing on it for over a year. Just sharing my story.... There are so many surgeons out there to choose from, get 2nd and 3rd opinions.

Lucky for me Dr. Bennett was the orthopedic surgeon on call that day. He reassured me that he would take care of me and that everything would be fine. He certainly lived up to that promise. It was a complicated surgery and Dr. Bennett, as my family physician said is an artist with his surgery. Dr. Bennett hooked me up with their physical therapy and they were totally awesome. I was airlifted to UT Medical Center in Knoxville, where Dr. Bennett was doing a temporary stint as a trauma surgeon. To this day I am thankful he was the surgeon I was assigned that night. Dr. Bennet repaired my mangled legs so effectively that 32 years after my accident I hike, travel and walk with a normal gait. Dr. Bennett's good work subsequently provided me a normal life I likely would not have experienced otherwise and for that I will be eternally grateful.
