Xanadu aka "Xu" is a large building on the property that makes up the workspace. Gardens of Xanadu is a large greenhouse on the property that is open to the public during the same business hours as Constellation Coffee, a coffee trailer on the property that is part of Xanadu. President of the Idaho Burners Alliance, Kaden Sinclair bought the property, which functioned as a church from the 1930s until the 1950s, so he could use it to build the art car "Joule" for Burning Man 2015, and it grew from there. One of Kaden's goals is to obtain the funding to build something similar to Meow Wolf, in Boise. Meow Wolf is an arts and entertainment company that creates large scale, interactive art installations. Highly Recommended!!!

Staff is very friendly, and the pick up system is super convenient. The drive-thru book return is kind of crazy -- if you haven't used it, it's worth doing just for the experience of sending your books off on an LED-lit conveyor belt. More fun than I was expecting :P Hoping to try some of the events soon -- it seems like there's always something going on. The location is very convenient. I love being able to treat myself to a library visit as a reward for going grocery shopping, haha (Winco is in the adjacent parking lot)

We took a walk around the building and they were setting up for an event today. Lots of hands on activities. Over on the other side of the building were some study rooms, computers, a copy machine and plenty of space to sit and read. Many comfortable chairs, desks and tables throughout the space and lots of sunlight. We were able to quickly get a library card and check out a few books. The staff were all super friendly and moving around so it was easy to ask questions. Looking forward to our next visit!

This library is clearly well-funded, thoughtfully staffed, and built around way more than just books. It's incredibly clean, welcoming, and genuinely designed for families and community use. The children's area alone is amazing. They have: experiential toddler toys Vox books that actually read aloud to kids multilingual books interactive learning stations rotating displays and activities But honestly, the thing that makes this library stand out is their "Library of Things." Over the years we've borrowed: a ukulele stamps/craft supplies a sewing machine a piano keyboard memory games kids' board games toys Matchbox car sets Barbie dolls teacher book kits with hand puppets And somehow everything is ALWAYS in amazing condition. Even the puzzles somehow still have all the pieces, which honestly feels like wizardry at this point. The seating options are great, the staff is consistently helpful, and the study rooms are actually clean and pleasant to use (don't even get me started on some of the Boise library study rooms). I wouldn't necessarily call this a "quiet library," but I mean that in the best possible way. It feels alive and family-friendly without being chaotic. Their programming is also fantastic. Follow them on Facebook or Instagram because some of their paint nights, family events, and 4pm kids classes are genuinely adorable and surprisingly well done. This place has become such a core part of our family life. Just an all-around exceptional library and one of my favorite places in Eagle.

Who would have known? The entrance is welcoming and warm and definitely laid out to allow teens and adults alike to be a little more loud as they enter. The entrance is closed off, if you will, so the sound will not carry into the quieter areas. I see this as a great place for people to hangout, chat, snack if they wish, prior to actually entering where the books area. For a Thursday night, the place was bustling. I just walked around looking through books, checking out their monthly librarian picks, goat books, and relaxing next to the outdoor waterfall on the patio. If you need to escape your day for a few, think about the Meridian Library Patio. What a gem and I am serious! Once I found the book I wanted to take home, the librarians were wonderful! They listened to my library stories of when I was a kid and proceeded to tell me about the SUMMER ADULT Reading program, like when we were little. They have prizes, drawings, and check off all your lego looking blocks, and get a free book for completing your nightly 40-minute reading. What a great idea. I have such fond memories of my experiences at my local library and Meridian is such a special place to keep those library memories going, especially for children. (Or adult like me that still act like a child.) So the moral of my rave is, this place is great! I also love that when you check out books, your receipt tells you how much money you save by checking out your book! What a wonderful idea! This place is clean, welcoming, and you are sure to find a quiet nook to escape to the world of reading. Now just go! (The reason for my 4 is because I want to frequent this spot to see if my experience is consistent. I will update after a few more stop-ins.)

This #ThankYouThursday, I'd like to share some love and gratitude for The Bishops' House in Boise,…read moreId! My son recently had his wedding here. There were a couple small hiccups, but by and large a wonderful wedding made all the more wonderful by this historic gem in Boise. Their wedding was on Halloween, which is always a little bit of a gamble weather-wise. The wonderful thing about the Bishops' House is that we were able to decide the morning of the wedding whether we'd like to proceed with the wedding inside or out. Ultimately, the bride and groom opted for an inside wedding (who can resist a bridal entrance down a staircase?) with the reception taking place in their autumnally perfect basement (seriously, from the fireplace to low flickering lights--it was perfection for a Halloween costume party wedding reception. The event coordinator met with us to provide a tour of the venue, which included tons of fun historical tidbits. The bride and groom both had their own suites to get ready in, which was lovely. The bridal suite has a lovely balcony as well. The grounds are also beautiful and with cooperative weather they were able to get some amazing photos taken on the grounds. The place was ours for a full 12 hours which gave us plenty of time to decorate, have the ceremony, dine, have the reception, clean-up and go! The cost for the venue was roughly $3000. Given we had it for 12 hours and was the location of both the wedding and reception--it felt like a solid deal. And, of course the bride and groom absolutely adored the location and have beautiful memories to last a lifetime--can't really put a price on that.

We wandered for some time, and though we were not the only ones there, it was peaceful and calm, a nice break from the hustle and bustle of town.

Make sure to follow the walking trail guide and read the stories listed in the brochure for a neat little piece on Idaho cities past. Definitely worth a visit. It is well staffed, pretty clean, especially the bathrooms, and offers a great deal to the community. Their kids section, new books, & DVDs were especially good. The DVDs are vast & perfect if you aren't streaming at home. There are even DVD courses to learn new things from art to algebra for homeschoolers or those who are deep diving a subject. Lots of extras here. [The only downside is the homeless and their pets taking over the outside front, talking loudly, and using the bathrooms inside. I almost don't mention it to avoid anyone being turned off but it is reality everywhere now.] So many floors to explore. ( see my photo the map of the library and what is where. ) There were places to sit and read comfortably. A place to refill your water bottle or get a drink is a plus while visiting here. Additionally, in this space there seems to be room to grow. The employees were friendly. Check it out

I mean, I typically say the word "library"in such a way that begs an exclamation point. Ie: I love the library! My favorite place? The library! Books! Books! Books! Liiiiibraaarrrry!! (I did mention that I'm a big ol' book geek?) As much as I love to wander through the shelves of books, I'm a busy person (so many books, so little time). So, here's how to do the Boise Public Library(!) busy girl style: Get yourself a library card (of course) Sign onto their website (www.boisepubliclibrary.org) Plug in the title of desired book from your "books to read" list. If you don't have a "books to read" list, search online for a book that you might like. You can search on the library's catalog online or wander around Amazon. Click "place hold." They don't need to have it at the branch that's most convenient for you--as long as they have it somewhere, you can choose to pick it up at the branch of your convenience. Receive email (usually, if its immediately available within a day or so) that book is ready. Go to library, go directly to hold section (right in front of check-out), grab book, check-out (I'm usually in, out, book in hand in less than 2 minutes). Voila! Your next literary adventure is waiting in your hot little hands... Get to it!
