Thinking I'd see the historic old downtowns of both Cottonwood and Jerome I got as far as the first…read moreshop in Cottonwood, J & J Antiques, and I'm almost surprised I ever emerged. J & J Antiques sits at the edge of Cottonwood's Old Town and looks from the outside like a relic from the gold rush era (which it probably is). Inside, it's a seemingly never-ending warren of what can only be called "shops". You know, an antique collective filled with little stalls, each specializing in whatever oddity the vendor sees fit to hunt down and resell. There's everything in here from the booth reselling Scrabble tiles to the guy reselling irons. I walked out of here with 3 unique necklaces for what I thought to be a most reasonable price but that's only because I exercised restraint. In today's disposable culture, these kind of shops are in sharp decline. I might not want all of the stuff on display here but I sure do want to look at it all. Cottonwood's historic district is filled with similar shops but J & J Antiques is the first place I'd send you to. They literally have everything a shop like this should. Great place.

This thrift store was such a cute little find! It's on the smaller side, but they made great use of…read morethe space and offered a nice variety of items--from household goods and furniture to knickknacks, children's clothing, and books. It was a fun spot to browse, and I enjoyed taking my time looking through everything. The clothing section wasn't huge, but what they had was decent and well-curated. I really appreciated that the pieces were in good condition--no noticeable stains, holes, or overly worn items. Pricing for clothing was very reasonable, which made it even more worthwhile to dig through the racks. The household items and furniture, however, were priced much higher, with some pieces ranging into the hundreds. One big downside is that there's no restroom on-site. If you need one, you'll have to walk over to the tractor shop next door--which, while not terrible, is definitely inconvenient. Overall, I wish they had a larger clothing selection, but the quality, pricing (on clothes), and overall charm still made this a pleasant stop.

I was always told to go to st Vincent instead of Goodwill by pretty much everyone that lives in…read moreCottonwood. They always say that the selection is better and the prices too. I have gone 5 times now in the past 3 months and think they are pretty much equal in a lot of areas. So here's a pro/con list. St Vin Goodwill Pricing is pretty equal on clothing Selection is better at goodwill meaning they have waaaay more items. -goodwill is open till 9pm every single night; st vin is not open at all on fri sat Sun. St vin doesn't have as much to offer people under the age of 30; goodwill does. But one thing does put st vin above goodwill for me... they are not lying to the general public as a non profit. Please. Goodwill takes in more money than most businesses in cottonwood. But because of a loophole in the laws, goodwill says it provides job searching assistance to the community so it is allowed to be a profitable non profit business. The "job research center" they are talking about, is 2 or 3 computers in the back that at one time, people could use to fill out applications. First, everyone and I mean everyone, knows someone with a computer they could ask to borrow to do that if they don't have one themselves. The public library has always let people use their internet and computers free so it could have been done there. The computers im talking about at this goodwill are used to hold clothing items, they are not even in use. And I'm there 5 days a week multiple hours each time and it's been over a year since they were used to look for a job. It's just a lie to hold their status. Cuz if I was making hundreds of thousands of dollars every month, I wouldn't want to give up my non profit status either. So yes I do shop there because of a selection, but I never ever ever donate to them. Let's face it these are items that most people think of us trash they are throwing them away. Goodwill takes those items and charges a huge amount for them and then doesn't have to be taxes or anything on it. I've seen clothing with stains and rips and blood and whatever else you can think of in there. Only Goodwill has the gall to charge $30 for a stained or ripped coach bag when you can get the same bag on any reselling site like Poshmark or Mercari, it will have no stains no rips and will be less than they will charge us for it. So I prefer St. Vincent for these reasons.

I do enjoy the crate like shelves I thought they added good character to what otherwise is just a warehouse space. My biggest complaint is that when we were there the a/c didn't seem to be working well. It was too hot to spend a lot of time browsing or hunting for that great find. Overall if we come back to the area we're likely to give it another shot but it's not likely to be our first stop.

I know many Americans hate handicapped people and other "DEI Hires", but being discriminated…read moreagainst for being an amputee while applying at Goodwill is ridiculous. Goodwill is place where Handicapped people are supposed to look for employment. But not at the Cottonwood location, and not with management like John and Heather. On Saturday, March 15th, I had an 11:30 interview with ASM John, even though I was supposed to be interviewed by an ASM named Heather. I assumed that Heather was unavailable for the interview. After a successful interview, John offered me a job and shook my only hand. John stated that, though a full-time cashier position was unavailable, I was impressive enough to work other positions and back up the other cashiers when nessicarry. John then took me into the store's backroom to learn about the processes in action. In the backroom, I learned that ASM Heather was INDEED in the store and she had shoved the interview off to ASM John. Heather took one look at me and rolled her eyes. John introduced us, and Heather limply shook my hand. She then turn away without saying a word to me. She went immediately to a large bald man who looked like he'd just been released from incarceration. There is no dress code at this location and most of the staff attire themselves like homeless people. Heather and the bald man began whispering to eachother and snickering. I should have know right then that I was being discriminated against. After the tour, John again shook my hand and said I would be called on Monday with further details. I was ecstatic to be offered the position. Not all handicapped people enjoy being unemployed, contrary to MAGA beliefs. Monday the 17th came, no phone call. Tuesday and Wednesday passed, no phone call. On Thursday the 20th, I called Goodwill to inquire about the hold up and spoke to John. John informed me that "Unfortunately, there are actually no positions available at this time." There were "Careers at Goodbill-Apply Now!" signs and banners displayed all over the store. As of Sunday, March 23rd, the signage is still displayed throughout the store. He then stated "we'll keep your application on file for 30 days." Something tells me not to hold my breath. I know America has become a place where Handicapped People are vilified for "being DEI" or "being leaches", some of us still want to work. We should be allowed to fail before we're mocked by Managers and denied jobs that were ALREADY offered. I know that there are some people out there who still think discrimination stinks. It's hard enough to be handicapped and find a job in Cottonwood. If Goodwill is discriminating, what chance do we have?
