My two year old managed to rip the cover off of my 1929 edition Gulliver's Travels book. Bohemio replaced the spine and reinforced the seam. He was also able to reprint/stamp the title information on the spine in gold lettering. He charged me $50 for the materials and labor. This was 1/2 the price of, what I can only assume, is his main competitor, Bessenberg Bindery. I am happy with the results. He called me and let me know that the order was complete and ready for pickup. He was polite and courteous. The business is located within the owner's home. My husband and I both had our dissertations bound by Bessenberg when they were still based in Ann Arbor. They did a beautiful job with competitive pricing. I also thought the service was excellent; the people who work here understand what it means to have finished a dissertation and are lovely about acknowledging your accomplishment when they accept the manuscripts. I dropped off a book on March 7th to be rebound. A price was agreed upon, and I was told that it would be four to five weeks until it was ready. In the middle of April, I called about my job, to see if it was ready to pick up, and I was told that it was not. Hm. Odd. I was also told that the bindings were shipped in from England, as if to justify the delay. If they're still shipping items on the Mayflower, then perhaps a few extra weeks extra makes sense, but in this case, their excuse didn't pass the sniff test. I emailed back and forth with these guys for a bit, and, bottom line, I'm going to have to wait. Fine. I live in Detroit, and had previously scheduled an appointment in Ann Arbor around the time that I was to have picked it up. Because that date has since long passed by the point I received the invoice, I asked if they could eat the cost of shipping the book to me, as I had planned on picking it up, but was not able to do so due to their failure to deliver on time. They told me they 'were not in a position to do so' (even though they could have tossed me this minor consolation prize) and that because they were late, I would have to pay to have it shipped. As far as customer service goes, this was the icing on the cake. The work is passable (the rebound Bible looks a bit like something a Gideon would have left in a cheap hotel for my taste), but the service is piss poor. And, what's more galling is that the attitude you get with it is even worse. Avoid, avoid, avoid. read more

I go there annually to get a book bound for work. If I was paying my own money, I would stop going. They never call to tell you that a project is done--you have to figure it out yourself when it's been a month and you've heard nothing. They also royally screwed up one of my projects--I had given them everything in the exact order I wanted it bound (it was a chronological project) and it came bound to me totally out of order. read more
