A beer garden/brewery done right. This place is MASSIVE with a huge selection of beer and seltzers made on site. There is a small patio that wraps two sides of the building but also a huge beer garden under a tent that has picnic bench seating. It's dog friendly. You can get pizza or tacos on site but we didn't get to that. There were a lot of folks getting food from the indoor canteen-style restaurant or the outside built-in shack. The beer was really good and they don't have set flights. You can buy each 4oz sample for $3 each to 'build your own' and choose as many as you want. Great varieties from light to porter. This place gets busy but there is no table service so lines move fast. Bar service was efficient and friendly. Location is just off the main road so it's not visible and parking is along the side.

After watching numerous episodes of Eat St and having a few food trucks open up here in Halifax…read more(though too far away for me to hit them at lunch), how cool is it that my first food truck experience was in my home town while on vacation. I didn't peruse the menu, wish I had at least taken a pic so I could tell you what the basics are. As soon as I saw the Crazy Fries and Aranachi Balls, I knew I'd found nirvana. Two of us ordered up one of each to share. So the crazy fries are covered in chunks of pulled pork, cheese curds, a cheese sauce and their own BBQ sauce. Talk about a big plate of artery clogging goodness! And the Arancini balls, rice wrapped around cheese, breaded, deep fried and presented with a marinara sauce for dipping. Really, what's not to like about all that? All of that with with a bottle of water and can of pop came to just over $21. It is cash only so come prepared. Nestled into it's own cradle next to the Butcher Shop at the north end of Central Street. There are a few picnic tables nearby. They have a Facebook page where they post some daily or weekly specials. As with most food trucks they have only so many servings of items available a day, so if you see something you like, get there early. It's kind of a good thing I don't have access to a food truck everyday but wish I could get here more often.

That was my fish & chip special $9.99 The "two piece" ended up being 3 tiny pieces which only meant more thin surface area to turn rubbery and unchewable The chips were plentiful but not homemade, sone kinda frozen ones I think. The pulled pork was white and oven cooked, a big disappoint. I am all for the concept of food trucks, but only if the food is good. Will not return.

As good and fresh as mussels get and as wonderful as service gets!…read more After driving through a couple of towns, down a strange dirt road (not the typical route!), and arriving at The Black Horse BBQ & Grill, we weren't sure what to expect. There is a real community hall feel to the pub, it's definitely not the fanciest or somewhere you'd typically bring a first date. But who needs fancy, who need pretentious - good people, good food, and good beer is sometimes all you need! We were a group of 8 and my husband had luckily found out about The Black Horse via Google search. Sitting down with hungry bellies, seven of us opted for the mussels to start for $5 per pound. Now. These mussels are farmed just down the road and come in plain, buffalo, wine & garlic, or spicy tomato (I see they have a new salt & pepper popcorn flavor as well!). The. Best. Mussels. I've. Ever. Had. No joke. Just delicious - all flavours. The meals were decent, not super memorable though - the sweet potato fries were very tasty. The food was pretty much typical pub food, which is why I take one star off this otherwise 5 star review. The service was really some of the best service I've had anywhere. How often does the owner come up, chat with your table, and sit down for some welcome conversation? How often do they really, actually care and go out of their way to find out how you like the food? He was very proud of the buffalo wing flavoured mussels with blue cheese dipping sauce - his own creation. Rightfully proud, I might add, they were soooo tasty, great flavor combination! And when we mentioned that we were interested in deep sea fishing, he called up his cousin and handed my husband his cell. It turned out his cousin ran a deep sea fishing boat and we met up with him the next afternoon! All in all, it was memorable PEI experience for all of us...I'm only sad that I do not have access to those mussels any time I want!

Dishes ordered: Mussels Wings Fish & Chips The mussels were more plentiful than the first visit and super fresh. We ordered them plain this time, and they were so good. There is no reason to dress up these mussels. Not one mussel in the whole dish was even unopened which means they were super fresh. The wings were superb. Crispy, and seasoned skin. So good! We ordered them with the homemade BBQ sauce, great choice. The wings were so tender on the inside. Fish & Chips were the only complaint. The filet was quite thin so it was overcooked. I think if we had a normal sized filet, the kitchen would not have screwed it up. The batter though, was very tasty and cooked in very good/fresh oil. The fries, same as last time, were fresh, well cooked, and excellent. Beer, cheap. Great.

TLDR; If you want some good quality Korean food an excellent service, this is the place to go…read more We have had quite a few Korean foods, both home cooked and at restaurants around the world, because we like Korean food and that's what we grew up eating. It says a lot that we came here two days in a row (would have been 3 if we hadn't departed from PEI early on the third day). Service was amazing and attentive without overbearing or disruptive. Inside as well as the bathroom were clean. Their offering of local beer was great, and when I ordered a bigger size, they even offered a sample to make sure I'd like the beer. We had their Korean BBQ menus as well as a couple others. Kimchi pancake: This was another hit. It tasted exactly like how my grandmother used to make it, where it's flavored enough, but not seasoned to blast your taste buds with way too much flavor. Corn cheese: The flavor was on point. They used A LOT of cheese. We kinda wished there was more corn than cheese, as (this is not something we say lightly as we love cheese) there was almost too much cheese compared to the corn. But it was really tasty. KBBQ menus: We got bulbaek and samgyupsal (pork belly). This place knows how to cook meat. The bulbaek was marinated enough to give it flavor but not overwhelm you with the sweet and salty flavor that other KBBQ spots often have. Pork belly was cooked and cut to the absolute perfection. You can tell the original pork belly they cooked was thick and juicy ones that were cooked to be crispy on the outside and juicy and moist on the inside and then cut to their rectangular shape to make it really easy to eat. It's also great they give you the ssamjang sauce, because that's actually been hard to see in our experience of having KBBQ during our travels in Canada. K Fried Chicken: Now, this was a huge surprise. The chicken was cooked well where the breading outside was crispy, and the chicken inside was tender. Even though they're not a chicken restaurant, they actually managed to get the breading to stay on the chicken itself, instead of sliding off as a whole when you take a bite. This sounds trivial, but as someone who's very into Korean fried chicken and have tried many times to make it at home, this is something that's actually really hard. We tried both soy garlic and spicy sauces, and they were both good. My standard for spicy sauce is from BBQ Chicken (it's name of a chain), and compared to that (one from there tastes sort of like a tteeokkochi sauce), it was missing a bit of sweetness, but it was still really good. Overall, it all tastes like home cooking without overuse of any seasonings. We will definitely be visiting back here when we return to PEI.

I haven't had any in months and when I saw this place I…read morethought I'd try it since they said they have authentic Texas BBQ. $22/lb of brisket, $9 for a single (cup) of mac and cheese, and $3.50 for a Pepsi. First thing's first, this is not authentic BBQ! The brisket they served me was the most saltiest brisket I've ever tasted. I hardly tasted any meet. And when I was ordering, I'm seeing 2 girls and a guy all in their very early 20s who clearly were no pit masters in barbecuing good brisket. I was explicitly told by the girl who rung me up saying the brisket could be cooked a little under or a little over. WTF???? All BBQ places I've been to take a lot pride in their food, especially BBQ food like brisket. It was like they marinated the brisket in sea salt, had made love to a salt brick, then injected itself with salt like it was looking for it's cocaine fix. Oh by the way, I loved it when the girl who rang me up gets her gloves by the fingertips that touched my brisket! Who then opens a steam oven where multiple briskets are in a small steel container (and probably swimming in salt water). The mac and cheese was slightly better. The only thing I really couldn't complain about was the slice of white bread. And when I tried to get some BBQ sauce to make the brisket taste better on the condiment and utensil table, they were not only out, but the pump was ajar from the container when bugs can easily get in. All this happened around 6:00pm, Tuesday, 7/29/2025
