Having moved to Adelaide from Melbourne in 2011 one of the hardest things I found about moving to a…read morenew town was loosing a long list of tried and tested to places to eat which I had in Melbourne. That's not suggesting Melbourne food is better then Adelaide rather I had no idea where the best spots are in my new home town. Pizza was a category that I tried and tried many a places but never found the right fit. Before Speranza opened I was going to Pedros around the corner from this place which is ok but not great (6/10). Back on Speranza The wood fire pizzas are great and staff very friendly. Pricing is at the high end but it's genuine wood fire pizza so you need to expect that. I highly recommend the belissima and "the lot" (supreme). I would personally stay away from chicken as I found the chicken breast to be dry however please don't let this put you off this great little place. The shop itself does have some basic seating however I would recommend it is better suited to take away. Overall I rate 5 stars (9/10) over 20 odd visits.

In terms of product, hit and miss. I really didn't like the tandoori chicken pizza, though my…read morepartner didn't mind the flavour. I always prefer seeing sliced or shredded chicken on a pizza, rather than chicken cubes (probably the result of working for a takeaway pizza franchise during my teenage years). The pizza bases were quite thick the first time we purchased from this place but much thinner last time. They don't do your standard garlic bread (ie garlic buttered baguette), which disappointed a couple of my friends. When we picked up our pizzas and went to pay by credit card we were asked to pay with cash and had to walk to the ATM (their credit card facilities weren't down - they just wanted cash payment). Not bad but definitely room for improvement.

The ceilings and walls are lined with corks and you are kept warm in the winter by a number of barrel fireplaces. It actually feels like you are in the country. Willunga is really full of a lot of surprises. It is a real trek for me to get there; however I am never disappointed in what it has to offer. Russell's pizza got a massive hype when it first opened. Everyone in town was talking about what an amazing experience it is. They are always booked out with functions and small gatherings of friends, so be sure to call in advance. So what is the Russell's experience? Well, unlike many other venues, we rocked up with an esky full of drinks. Yes, can you see why I felt at home? They have a licence to allow BYO. Obviously you are to drink responsibly, but it really keeps the customers there for the night. The next part of the experience is the staff. They are all so friendly and helpful. They work super hard, but they keep a smile on their faces. They even stopped for a dance with us after our meal. Then there is the pizza. Oh the many pizzas! The bases are perfection. They are home made and rolled out in a sort of long fashion to fit on wooden boards. Toppings are all very creative and fresh. One pizza came out with oysters in the shell. Lovely! The sauce is really flavoursome. You could not really complain about anything. This is a great birthday or small function venue. You can pay a cost per head and you are provided with chef's selection pizzas until you say "no, I can't take it anymore! I will roll home if you keep going!" Russell's really feels like a party at one of my good friends home. I highly recommend this place if you have a birthday or gathering in the future.

Not at all, this modest, but atmospheric bit of Australiana produces pizzas which have few peers, whether you think of Rome, Naples, New York or Adelaide. Light, thin tasty bases, dressed with the best produce in true Italian fashion, not piled high, cooked to perfection in a woodfired oven. Good sizes, although a little pricey, our kids were the best critics, their fussy as most are - not a crumb left! The range has something for everyone, ham & pineapple, napoli, yes they're there, but so are seasonal vegetable, slow cooked turkish lamb, and many others. Just order from the board. Deserts are traditional tarts, panacottas and pies simple - all delicious. Staff are friendly, casual and eager to please, a special desert for the kids was no trouble. The only nitpick is, for a largely BYO restaurant, a $7 ph corkage charge for those drinking their own is a bit steep. It shouldn't put you off, but make sure you budget for it. Anyway, if you're in the neighbourhood, don't miss it!

5/5 stars 18/12/2011…read more There must be something special about his pizza - because boy, this chef sure likes to have fun! He asked me what my major in University was (which was Psychology), and he jokingly replied, "So you've come to analyse me!" He made me smile with that one. And I noticed he jokes around with every customer and co-worker! But seriously, do they know how to make pizzas properly! (Awww...man this dough and meat is fresh and soft, not like the try-hard local stores who end up making it hard to eat!) If you're looking for a delicious and authentic Italian-made pizza with fresh dough and toppings that should be expected in Italian pizza, than you can take Salvatore's Slice of Italy's name, which is a genuine original Italian name, and turn it into "The Freshest and Softest Pizza in Adelaide" - especially after you wash a slice or two down with a couple of cans of soft drinks! The chef was so friendly, when I asked what the gorgeous photos on his wall came from, he told me stories of his trips overseas back home to the beautiful pristine islands of Italy, and all his cousins. He said his uncles from Italy were the ones who taught him how to make pizzas for life. I love immigrants who never forget where they came from, or apply what they learnt in their younger years to run a successful business or job for the rest of their life. Look for the colourful Italian flag colours of green, white and red at the front to guide your way. Anyway - just find this place. You will not be disappointed...There's even some other fascinating shops right next door!

It was upon stepping into this modest looking deli with fluro lighting, 50s vinyl chairs and plastic tables, random cooking equipment scattered around and big, black and white pictures of beautiful Italians with "I love Napoli" written on them hanging on the wall that I felt like I had returned to a pizza shop from the mother land. Walk out through the kitchen to toilet at the back of the shop and you might trip on a bag of pizza flour on way but don't worry, the lino floors will protect your fall. Enough about the interior, that doesn't really matter. In traditional fashion, the star of the show is the hand made blackened pizza oven sitting in the middle of the shop serving up damn good WOG Pizza. We thought we'd be modest an just order one 12 inch Frutti di Mare (seafood) and a bottle of wine to share (funnily enough sipped out of those promo wine cups that you collect from various wine events and functions over the years). But after devouring this crispy based, sweet tomato sauce covered, melt in your mouth seafood pizza we decided we couldn't stop at one. The Truff Truff was next - a creamy, cheesy base of truffle oil, cheese, dried mediterranean herbs and more cheese. Forget manners, there's no forks or plates here and the owner really couldn't care less if you came in or not. He does what he loves and I think even if there were no customers in store he would be happy. The girls on the floor are friendly but really, who needs to make small talk when all you want to do is finish off 2 large pizzas in 30 minutes and then roll home?
