Last year, after cancelling my membership at a local boxing gym due to changes in management, I was…read moreanxious and uncertain about joining a new gym. I had a routine and knew what to expect at my old gym, and stepping into City Gym seemed pretty daunting. I did the 7 day free trial and was introduced to barre, spinning and more. It only took me 5 of the 7 days to be sure that I wanted to become a member and a year later I have no regrets. City Gym offers such a wide variety of different classes and there are so many class times that it makes it easy to incorporate classes into my schedule. I regularly attend Jenny's TRX Circuit classes 2-3 times every week and the City FIT (Functional Interval Training) and Strength 360 classes as well. Every trainer/staff member I have come across has made me feel more than welcome and the facilities are really top notch. The layout is functional, clean and the showers/lockers are more than sufficient. I live and work about 20-25min away (depending on time of day) and I still make the drive out to City Gym 4-5 times every week because I love it so much.

This is a solid gym but I wish it had more of what I was looking for. Feels like for the space they…read morehave they could add things like a hack squat, t bar row, additional lat pull downs and cable row machines, etc... to reduce traffic at specific parts so people can go through their workouts more efficiently. That said the staff is really nice, the facility is clean, and when not busy the gym largely has what I'm looking for but when you get in at a later or earlier time when busier expect delays to the finish of your workout while waiting for things to open up.

We were there for an event and they just started picking up plates cups and even towels, although if it wasn't over yet, and I was quite frankly surprised. The food was fairly subpar and I'm surprising. They only gave us one drink ticket. Not to nit, but I have to admit there was an incredible amount of flies and bees that were flying around that we were literally driving people away because it was so annoying.

ONE STAR First off,…read moreI want to give one star specifically to Tarah Zahner, Director of Membership. Somewhere along the way, one pretty important part of customer service seems to have gotten lost: remembering that the customer, especially a longtime loyal customer, should occasionally come before the almighty dollar. So, let me take you on a little journey. I've been a member of Woodside for many years. I supported the club, enjoyed the club, recommended the club, and even lived at Woodside Village for several years. I wasn't someone who joined for three months, used a treadmill twice, and disappeared into the night. I was a loyal customer. In September, I let Woodside know that I was moving away and needed to cancel my membership. I was then informed that I would still be charged for another month, despite the small inconvenience of NO LONGER LIVING IN THE AREA OR BEING ABLE TO USE THE CLUB. OK. Interesting. So I reached out to Tarah. My email was kind. It was respectful. I explained my situation and simply asked if, after years of being a loyal member, Woodside might consider making an exception. The answer was no. But quite frankly, the "no" wasn't even the part that bothered me most. It was how I felt I was treated in the response. Tarah's email came across to me as condescending and dismissive, with an underlying "Who exactly do you think you're talking to?" attitude. And THAT is where Woodside lost me. Because here's the thing: you can tell a customer no without making them feel small. You can enforce a policy and still show kindness. You can explain a rule and still acknowledge that the person on the other end has supported your business for years. I didn't expect a parade. I didn't need a plaque by the pool. I wasn't asking them to name a treadmill after me. I simply expected a little grace and good customer service at the end of a relationship that had lasted for years. Instead, I walked away feeling like all those years of loyalty meant considerably less than collecting one final monthly payment from someone who doesn't even live there anymore. And yes, I'm sure there is a policy somewhere that says they can charge it. That's not the point. There is a tremendous difference between what a business is allowed to do and how a business chooses to treat people. Customer service isn't really tested when the answer is easy. It's tested when someone has an unusual circumstance and you have an opportunity to make them feel valued. Woodside had that opportunity. Unfortunately, in my experience, they chose the invoice. After all these years, I would have loved for my final impression of Woodside to have been about the beautiful club, the memories, and the years I spent there. Instead, I'm leaving with a completely different impression: Apparently loyalty has an expiration date. The billing cycle does not.

Well this was our fourth stop on Town Center's "New Year, New You" campaign. I didn't really know…read moremuch going in except that they did some rowing. Turns out it is similar to Orange Theory in that it incorporates two stations of rowing machines and weights (no treadmills). Walking in, the lobby is very minimalist and white. You are met with super loud music coming from the workout room and might have a thought of "Oh jeeze, what am I in for?". They checked us in and gave us a run down of how it will work, set us up on some rowers, and we grabbed some towels (which are available for you to use). The class splits up between the rowers and benching and switches back and forth for three rounds. The studio itself is like a half gym, half nightclub. It's super dark, the music is super loud, there are rainbow led lights in the ceiling, and one of the participants (who I think also works there) was woo-hooing the whole time. The towers are pretty cool because they light up different colors to tell you if your form is correct (blue), if it's wrong (white), and if you reached your goal (red). A woman named Amy (who was an instructor but also the manager at the Prairie Village location) was the one to show us how to row properly and would come check on us and give pointers throughout the class. By the end I really had the form down and I appreciate that she took care to watch and help us do it right! From what I can tell they don't offer a free class to try but the first time visit is $15. They offer different packages ranging from $25 to $1000. I rated it a 4 instead of a 5 simply for the music I don't like it being so loud to the point where I was yelling at my husband and he still couldn't hear me lol!

High intensity, motivating, fun workout atmosphere! The music was current, upbeat and motivating…read more It was a little difficult to get the rowing form down at my first visit and I was very sore afterwards. Definitely a workout not for the faint of heart.

Ok, so when it comes to working out, I am pretty much worthless. I can find a million excuses for…read morenot going to the gym or exercising everyday, I seem to have a 'gift' for it:)! That aside, 2016 came around and I had convinced myself that I was going to brake my old ways of thinking about staying fit and exercising, and that is when I discovered "Bodyfit"! This is one amazing location to workout! From beginners to advance levels of fitness Bodyfit has a class with a knowledgable coach for you. They even offer kickboxing lessons if you are in to that sort of thing. However, for the most part they are focused on "HIIT" or high intensity interval training; much like cross-fit but taken down to a level where people are not destroying their backs and becoming hulk monsters:) Per my discussion of laziness above, I signed up for 1 month of classes at a very cheap rate of $50; but, I only attended at most 5 classes. Now I keep telling myself that I am going to return to Bodyfit and really give it a serious go this time, yet I am building up the courage to do that:) All being said, no matter what your fitness level is, the trainers here will work with you to get your butt in shape and trust me it HURTS, but I know that had I stayed with the program I would likely be a good 15-20 pounds lighter as I lay here writing this review. It is my #1 choice of gyms in KC & as you can see they are willing to work with you on the pricing. I hope this inspires some to go hit the "cardio-weight" training hard at Bodyfit, because I guarantee that if you were to stick with the program for 6 months that you would be cut! P.S. they are the only gym in the KC metro area that is run 100% on green energy; solar panels and all! It is really quite cool & unique!

They are a CrossFit gym but they also offer so much more from boxing, HIIT, yoga, kids classes, and a cold plunge and sauna. They offer all of the latest equipment and weights you can use. The schedule is very flexible as they have classes starting at 5am all the way to the latest at 615pm. They also feature a supplemental area where you can buy various pre workout drinks, electrolyte replenishers, and protein powder. They have two big areas for CrossFit classes and plenty of space to use the equipment. All of the classes I have taken there the coaching has been top notch. They really go over the correct form for the lifts and you are always leaving the gym sweating and feel you have had a great workout. I can't recommend this gym enough as everyone has been friendly and offers a great community and support for newbies.
