I love this place…read more After almost a year of one-on-one personal training (see my previous review), I started going to the MWF morning small group training classes. It's a little more economical, I still get a great workout, and I get to do it with a group of really awesome people! What's not to love?! I love the flexibility that the MWF group classes offer. If I have an 8 am meeting, I workout from 5:30-6:30 instead of the 6:30-7:30 time. There is even an 8:45 am workout that is great if I have a day off and don't want to get up early. The workouts themselves are always different, so I never get bored. I also never know what to expect until Coach Heath writes the sets on the white board. He then shows us proper form for the first set, and then turns us loose. He's there to keep track of the time, make sure we're doing the moves correctly, and answer our questions. The "sets" typically consist of 5-6 exercises, where we do each exercise for 30 seconds until we've gotten through the set three times. Occasionally there will be a set that is at your own pace. There is usually a "finisher" too. I'm not sure where the name comes from, but you are D.O.N.E. when it's over. The prowler is aptly named, because it's difficulty sneaks up on you during those last 5 or so yards. I've also gone to the evening large group training class once or twice. The intervals there are for 60 seconds, which seem like an eternity when you're used to 30 seconds. Muay Thai classes taught by Bryan Carroll are a fun and challenging addition to the classes offered by SlinkFit. There is an additional fee for these classes, but they ROCK and are totally worth it! If you've read this far, you might be like, "Ok, sounds great. but I'm REALLY out of shape. There is no way I could survive one of these classes." I'm not gonna lie. It'll be hard, but all of the exercises can be and will be modified to your fitness level. All the trainers are great about showing modifications. You will be surprised at how quickly you build strength and won't have to modify as much the more you do the workouts. The other excuse people make is: "I don't want to work out in a group because I'll look stilly fumbling through exercises." The rest of the people in the group can barely see past their own sweat. No one is paying attention to what anyone else is doing. Promise. So quit making excuses, join a gym that you will actually use, get fantastic workouts every week, and meet new friends. You game?

However, it can get busy there and the hot tub chlorine does sting my eyes a bit. There is also a steam and dry sauna there (both men and women in there). Parking is also difficult to find close by with how many people go there now. The women's locker room was nice, but honestly I expected the showers to be nicer and more modern. We stopped by the cafe on the way out. I tried the grilled cheese and tomato soup. The grilled cheese had apples in it and had good flavor. However, the tomato soup just tasted like thick, sour, tomato paste. It was not creamy like typical tomato soup.

    1. They charge you $10 per class if you don't verbally and manually checkin with the instructor…read more I've been charged $10 for classes that I even attended and was a few minutes late to. You're better off not signing up and just walking in. 2. Brining guests is a complete hassle and you're charged a non refundable fee of $25 if life changes happen and you don't come with a guest that day. On several occasions I was denied guests even tho it was well before the required 24hour application to request them. On multiple occasions my requests were completely ignored and went unreported to even if they were placed 72hours in advance. I was frequently traveling to KC for work and sports only to be hassled when my wife visited from LA stating that I reached my cap for local guest passes (mind you, she lives in California full time and would visit me about once or twice a month for a weekend) 3. Steam room in women's bathroom is utterly disgusting and wasn't cleaned since I was there over a several month period, how'd I know? The dirt streaks and giant clump of hair that just remained of the floor for over 6months 4. Coming from Los Angeles and the Heimat gym where I pay $350/month, I was excited to try this gym... but this gym is clearly nothing but a wanna-be elite gym. The best part of this place is the flavored water in the women's locker room- And maybe the pools in the summer but good luck finding parking 5. Looking to bring up an issue with the staff and escalate it? Don't worry, they're happy to ignore you. Trust me, you're not gonna miss this place. Only thing it's memorable for is being complicated while trying to use its perks and over complicated. The 2 stars are for the water and the equipment. The cleaning staff is super nice tho!

My wife has wanted to be a crossfitter for as long as I can remember. It's literally one of the…read morelongest, ongoing conversations we've been having over our 20-year relationship. Unfortunately, she's also riddled with physical conditions that don't lend well to a life spent tossing tires, ropes, and boxes around, much less massive amounts of weightlifting, pullups and double-unders. So when some of our best friends mentioned this crossfit gym they had been attending and their love for it, my eyes admittedly rolled at knowing what was coming next: my wife's perennial pitch on joining a crossfit gym. I'll spare you the details on the weeks of "discussion" in between and let you know: we made the dive. Our friends told us that this one wasn't like most other crossfit gyms. There were no mirrors for people to stare at themselves, people wore all their clothes, the coaches actually cared about members' health, and everyone fostered a truly encouraging and positive atmosphere. It was a community of people of all ages looking to improve their overall health, not a high school gym class competition. Within a couple of weeks of joining, we knew we had made a brilliant decision. 2020 is led by a wonderful team of coaches and staff who care deeply for each and every member. From the gym owner down to the newest member on staff, nary a day goes by that most of them don't ask how you're doing, how they can help you achieve a better you, or simply about how your weekend went. The coaches encourage everyone to take workouts at a healthy pace, and are very hands-on in their approach to ensuring each and every person is challenging themselves without compromising any specific health issues. "Scaling" is encouraged, however they're always there to encourage you to do your best! The approach at 2020 has been successful for me for two primary reasons: the accountability factor that becomes ingrained in a community/family set up such as this; and the coach-led approach where every day is a different workout that you yourself didn't have to research, plan and prepare for. Variety. If Yelp offered a once-a-year rating "bonus" where you could give just one review a special sixth star, or a gold star - this would be the one for me!
