Price is right!!! It's a school so your getting a massage from a student. But they have been taught well, cuz I feel great after every visit. Recently I was fixing a tire on a trailer. Out of the blue a back spasm leaves me laying on the ground wondering if I need to go to the ER. After things settled down I called and got an appointment. I really dig a deep tissue massage. Hurts so good!! Depending on the students going thru the program depends on the type of massage you can get. I couldn't get one, but ask for what you want and they try and accommodate you best they can. From deep tissue, sports therapy, pre-natal, and lymphatic drainage what ever your needs are. Went back today a week after the last massage. I feel like this is going to be a great weekend. Relaxed, rested and ready for just about anything!! What a great place to go for affordable relaxation! But first, a quick tangent: About three years ago while visiting my Mom in Des Moines I booked an afternoon at an upscale spa in the area for massages and mani-pedis. We were both underwhelmed and left feeling way over-charged. That being Mom's first massage and being such a bad experience I felt badly that she might never want to pamper herself again. So, I was surprised when my Mom said she wanted to go get massages while I was visiting this past weekend. She had heard good things about Body Wisdom from friends, so we booked. I mean, really at $30 an hour, knowing that the massage therapists are in training, we figured we might not get revelatory experiences, but at that price it's hard to go wrong. And we were right, we both had wonderful experiences from start to finish. The ambiance is fitting, given that it is a school. It does not have the feel of a luxury spa, because it's not. The reception area is decorated in a mix of warm and cool colors that are perfectly soothing while you wait. It is both professional and welcoming. My therapist, Tammy, paid extra attention to the knots she found in my back, she could tell that I have been pretty tense lately. Plus, me being a very ticklish person, she was mindful to provide firm pressure so that I did not have to hold my breath (as I've often found myself having to do in past massages). She did a great job while working with each area of my body giving plenty of attention to each. The only thing I would want is to have more attention to my scalp and face, because that felt so good! Next time I will know to mention that. Furthermore, throughout the massage, she was communicative, while not being overly talkative. I appreciated this because I am there to de-stress not chat. And I left very, very relaxed. Ashley worked on my mom and I could tell she enjoyed her massage. She returned to the reception area looking very refreshed. Mom mentioned that she asked Ashley if she noticed any problem areas. Ashley informed her of a couple spots that could benefit from more attention. She clearly had a good experience because she is already planning to return for a deep-tissue or reflexology massage, no three year waiting period this time. I really love that these services are available to the public because it helps the therapists-in-training get practice in their art and it allows people like my mother who can't necessarily afford a private spa and deserve to be papered. Also, these students are trained in massage and only massage. They are not just learning massage as part of a bigger program (i.e. general cosmetology). I highly recommend both Body Wisdom as well as graduates of this school. When I visit Des Moines again, I will return, I just wish I could get back more often! read more

I went in to Body Wisdom today a little skeptical since it was a school. My first thought is always that they are inexperienced. I was pleasantly surprised with how well Crystal was able to listen to my concerns and focus on them. My sinuses just started acting up and she asked if I wanted her to spend time focusing on them. I didn't know that was a thing, but immediately accepted and am glad I did. read more

My husband works at a physically demanding job, so I book him a massage whenever possible. I sent him here, and he loved it. I had bought groupons at some other places, which he liked, but they weren't as good as Body Wisdom. You can't beat it for the price! read more

Always skeptical about going to a school for a massage but went there last Thursday and had a GREAT massage! Wish I would have gotten 1.5 hours. One of the best! Was very conscious about the pressure of the massage. Will go back! Thanks Grace. read more
