After looking at many different schools, we were sold on the Cha family as soon as we watched one of their classes for children. The Cha's artfully mixed rigor and discipline with compassion and understanding in managing a diverse group of students while keeping the class fun but structured. We were also impressed with their offering of family classes that allowed parents and children to train together--something which helped keep my son going through the program and kept him committed past his black belt. The Cha's are also very committed to the community they have built among their school's members. They do what they can to help and support families and were outstanding during the pandemic by structuring online classes, developing a remote testing program so that students could advance in rank, and driving and delivering belts to the students. Leading by example, the Cha's have created a community of members who are all supportive and respectful of each other. Since re-opening in the summer of 2021 in a beautiful new location, the Cha's are offering an outstanding program of in-person training (masked for now). Cha's Taekwon-Do is an excellent place for children to build confidence and discipline (that translates to school work), for families to train together and share in the experience, and for adults to improve their fitness and flexibility while learning a practical martial art. I have seen many other martial arts schools over the years and none compares to Cha's Taekwon-Do. It is definitely worth a look.

As a kid who sometimes has trouble concentrating in school, he is always focused in the taekwondo classes. The teachers know each student and are a perfect mix of firm and encouraging that helps the students to thrive. They also get to know the families and maintain a community feel around the school. I highly recommend this studio to anyone looking for a martial arts school for themselves or their children.

I also have over 30 years of involvement with the arts and have black belts in Karate and Ju Jitsu ( 1rst degree and 6th degree respectively, plus some other stuff. Having been around for a while, one develops a knack for determining if someone is the real deal. I have trained with some amazing high level martial artists. Sifu Stanley may perhaps be at the highest level I have ever trained with. He is also an awesome guy. The training is now semi private with much individual attention.

If I had to defend myself, I could. For me, Wing Chun and continuous sparring are practical, useful, interesting, and effective. Sifu Jue teaches authentic, traditional kung fu in the traditional Chinese way ~ the way Kung Fu classes were taught in China past and present, and integrates his own method. This school is not a franchised business or part of an organization with a standardized curriculum. Having practiced Wing Chun under 2 previous teachers, I can say that Sifu Jue understands Wing Chun very well, is an excellent practitioner, and is an effective teacher with an ability to teach anyone. Over the years I've witnessed many people in his class develop into surprisingly good fighters. Sifu Jue knows many things but is a modest instructor. Everyone is comfortable learning here. As with anything, if you commit yourself you will continue to improve. Note: I chose to learn Kung Fu because I knew it offered something additional that modern fighting arts do not. There are the tangible benefits of self~defense, strength, and fitness, that come with training of any kind, but kung fu offers much more.

The moment I walked in, I immediately felt welcomed. Bill asked me what my goals were and at the time, I had always been interested in trying kick boxing. An hour and a bucket of sweat later, I signed up for a membership and decided to give Hard Knocks Muay Thai and MMA a try. Fast forward to almost 2 years later, this gym has become a huge part of my life in ways I couldn't have imagined. I did more than "try kick boxing". Before pregnancy I was encouraged, coached, pushed, and supported by the coaches. The coaches make classes feel like it's an individual experience even in a big group. They call people by their names and they are so knowledgable, and attentive, always keeping safety as a top priority. They encourage you to do what is best for you. When I got pregnant they came up with whatever workout worked for me, especially when I got bigger. Miguel and Brian, two of my favorite coaches, were ALWAYS checking on me. I loved how Miguel never treated me like the pregnant lady. He believed in my ability to finish workouts, in the meantime asking about my heart rate, correcting my positions and encouraging me. Because I used to go to the 5:30am class (before it got too popular), Miguel was the primary coach so I can't speak for ALL coaches, but I've had classes with them all and enjoyed all classes. Life is busy and I don't go as often as I'd like to, but I'm still enrolled because I love the classes and I enjoy working out there.

Here are the reasons why: The Coaches: There are four main coaches- Owner Tina, Brian, Miguel, and Mel- and they are all top-notch. They are a dedicated, knowledgeable, and dedicated to their craft. No matter whether a class has 2 or 15 people in it, they make sure each member is getting the coaching he/she needs to participate safely, get a great workout in, push themselves, and get a great workout in. Each coach also brings his/her own style and expertise, so if you get a chance to work with all of them you get a great all-around experience. The Community: There is a great mix of people here- old and young, from elite athletes to day-one beginners. The common thread is everyone welcomes and encourages everyone else no matter what level they are at. Coming from another Crossfit gym, it would have been easy to feel like an outsider for a while. Not here. People were friendly, encouraging and immediately treated me like I was part of their gym. From the start I have made friends and look forward to talking to them before and after class as much as the actual workout! Countless Intangibles: In the short time I have been there they have renovated, added to their rig, and brought in multiple orders of equipment. This reinvestment in the gym shows- it is in GREAT shape. The gym is clean, equipment is organized, there are three clean showers (separate from the bathrooms) with towels and toiletries provided. There is always a community event to look forward to- from charity workouts/fundraisers to nutrition, weightlifting, or running challenges to pot-luck parties. There is a wide range of hours (including classes on Sunday) and I haven't seen anyone turned away from a class yet. Whether you are curious about trying Crossfit for the first time or maybe you are an experienced Crossfitter and are thinking about changing boxes, I am convinced Crossfit BIG is the right fit for everyone.
