After a brief conversation with Danielle and her team I quickly scheduled weekly appointments. Danielle evaluated my records, listened closely and quickly moved me to an exercise plan to strengthen my knee and legs. Six weeks later I was back to the things l loved (sailing, biking, and hiking) and the pain and swelling was gone. This year I had a different problem with my knee and again I went to The Knee Joint. I had full confidence in Danielle, she is professional, thoughtful, and timely and has a great space with plenty of room to work through your physical therapy routine. I'm now back to all my favorite outdoor sports and I am grateful for the excellent care and support I got from the Knee Joint. Miguel

As the owner of The Knee Joint, she focuses exclusively on knees, and consequently her expertise shows in every session. I loved working with her: she's positive, knowledgeable, and as a competitive athlete herself, knows the importance of getting back out there to do what one loves: for me it was rowing. What I appreciated most is that she truly listens. If an exercise feels too difficult or seems to be causing another issue, she quickly adjusts and tailors the program to fit my body and recovery. She has a wonderful app that helped me stay the course. I'm incredibly grateful to have had her support throughout both knee rehabs.

I learned this behavior is not allowed and violates both patient notice requirements as well as Continuity of Care laws and No Surprise laws in the state of California. Forcing a post-surgical patient in severe pain to make a rushed financial decision at the front desk is considered administrative coercion and poor medical ethics. I had foot surgery in mid November and was referred for post-surgical PT for hip and low back at my 12/22/25 follow up with my surgeon, due to issues that developed from an uneven gait in the walking boot. I contacted my insurance for referrals and was referred to Active Marin PT as well as a few others that were IN NETWORK. I was in pain and not sleeping well, so when I called Active Marin PT on 12/23/25, and was booked in for eight appointments beginning 12/29/25, I was very relieved. In my booking call, I provided my insurance information and Active Marin PT confirmed they were IN NETWORK. I showed up, in pain, on 12/29/25 and was told verbally that Active Marin PT had ended their contract with my insurance the day before, 12/28/25, but Active Marin PT would file something called a "gap form" on my behalf to bring their services back IN NETWORK. I was very confused as I had been booked for eight (8) appointments before they ended their contract on 12/28/25, and because PT was part of my post-surgical care. And I had made sure with Active Marin PT that I was IN NETWORK. I was induced to continue with care because Active Marin PT stated a plan (the "gap form") to deal with their contractual changes so my services would be covered In Network. Importantly, no one from Active Marin PT contacted me BEFORE of my appointment to explain they had cancelled their office's contract with my insurance (Blue Shield of CA, not a small provider) and obtain my consent to different charges or give me alternative options. I was instructed to keep my three appointments that week and wait out the gap form, and frankly I was in terrible pain that was making it hard to walk, and needed help at that point. I have since learned that the medical provider must give written notice to all patients when a master insurance plan is changed. I also learned that the Continuity of Care doctrine means my care continues for a period of time at In Network rates due to the booking date of 12/23/25, and I learned about the Post Surgical Care laws. Both laws disallow Balance Billing, or upcharging the patient to enrich the medical practice above what insurance allows. I followed up daily on the "gap form" both with my insurance and with Active Marin PT; after the first week (3 appointments) I became concerned about the lack of progress and I cancelled the rest of my appointments. The reception did not seem to have a handle on when or how the gap form might be resolved. I also asked how billing was going to be handled and no one seemed to know. I moved on to an In Network PT who is great, but I had to wait a while to get in for care. Active Marin's behavior cost me additional time in pain. Flash forward - not only did Active Marin PT NOT bill for the three visits at In Network rates ($15 per visit for me, total $45), they Balance Billed a total of $590 for three appointments. Before I knew the laws, I offered to negotiate the bill. Per my insurance, these appointments would have cost me $15 per, or $45 total. I offered $250 (5X what my bill would have been to try and be fair) in resolution. While I understand business contracts can change, Active Marin PT owed me full and complete disclosure of this change BEFORE booking me in for 8 appointments, taking me on an emotional roller coaster while in pain, confusing me with insurance jargon, and forcing me to start my care over, all while Balance Billing and violating California Continuity of Care Laws and California Post-Surgical Care Laws. Active Marin PT refused to even discuss the problem or work out a solution with me, instead inserting their billing coordinator into a quasi-lawyer position to go back and forth with me. It is important for the community to take extra steps with this business and triple check insurance contracts have not changed before each appointment or risk expensive and fake Balance Bills and a dismissive and rude attitude. If this happened to you, please file a complaint with your insurance company so you do not pay false and expensive Balance Bills like I did. I am out $590 and a lot of headache due to this bad behavior.

TLDR: If you're someone who values performance, both on a critical timeline and for the long term,…read moreVita Yee is the first person to turn to for a sports injury. If possible, reach out to her as soon as you can after an injury, because with the early days, she apparently works miracles! Longer version: I am a performing artist, and on opening night, I heard a snap in my leg: I tore the calf. The pain was intense, and worse, I had no idea what was going on, only that I couldn't get any power from that leg. It was by sheer luck that I got in touch with Vita later that night, and by the next day she was working on me. I was completely blown away by the absolute generosity with which she shares her skill. With so much kindness and care, she brought athlete-performance specificity to the physical therapy--and an understanding of dance and its concurrent demands of strength, flexibility, speed, and placement. Her knowledge of sports physiology is impressively comprehensive, and acupuncture is but one of her talents. On the first day, recognizing that this is my livelihood and that sitting around resting was not really an option, she did hands-on work to smooth the muscles, then applied kinesiology tape in a way I couldn't have figured out on my own (and neither could the internet)--the relief was instantaneous. She started me on rehabilitation exercises almost right away, taking into account exactly how the body would compensate (and how I might try to cheat the true path to recovery). For in between sessions, she taught me how to tape the leg, massage out the muscles, use compression socks, when to ice and heat, which exercises to do and how. She maintained the appropriate pace with really specific guidance, for example: Day 0: "No jumping or running, period" Day 2: "No performing that part until you can do 3 sets of 25 relevés" Day 12: "Small double leg jumps are okay, no single leg jumps yet" Just as important as the physical recovery, she helped take away the fear, which was very real. This sense of trust in both her and myself made the acupuncture as easy as going to a spa: 15 minutes of lying cozily under a heat lamp with three tiny needles, reminding the muscles how to work, and afterward feeling as satisfied as if I had been working out. Forever grateful to Vita for enabling me to be back on the stage.

Presidio Sport & Medicine came as a non-negotiable from my surgeon (he even messaged the owner during my initial appt to make sure they would fit me in)! This is a well oiled machine, despite always been very busy - everyone from the receptionists to the therapists and trainers are so patient oriented. Each session starts with an assessment of how you're doing and no two sessions are exactly the same. They tailor the treatment to meet you where you are on that day. The care that they provide is unmatched and I feel better informed and treated than I ever have at a PT place before. Even the trainers who walk you through your exercises are awesome and while PT is often uncomfy as you recover from an injury, they make the process that much better. I will have to give a new update once I am fully recovered, but until then you will find me very happily going to Presidio Sport 2x week :)

She is incredibly skilled and responsive to what my body needs, specifically--whether it is a shoulder tweak, upper back stress, etc. She used a variety of techniques on an area until it responds/releases. Although other professionals at Sports Massage also look wonderful from reviews I've seen, avoid Stefan. I booked a 30 minute "fix" with him, when Nicole wasn't available. He was 15 minutes late, worked for over 60 minutes haphazardly (and sometimes painfully) on areas that were not troubling me, and billed for 60 minutes (not the 30 I'd booked). Then, my masseuse Lein took the time to sit down and go over my needs, and discuss possibilities of why things may be feeling the way they do. She had very confident hands as if she knew my body better than I did. Although I would say for some people if they do not like deep tissue the pressure was strong but for myself I personally love that and got exactly what I asked for! She perfectly focused on exactly what we discussed getting rid of any knots in my body and worked parts of my body that I didn't know how much actually affected other parts that were needing help. Definitely some muscles that I've never experienced before that really allowed my flexibility the next day like deep in my arm pits. I certainly felt the effects both immediately after as well as the following day or two and still from being very decompressed. She was able to target and find points in my chest that ran up to my neck and shoulders that I still feel incredible from days later. I will absolutely rebook with her. I know that you asked for ratings based from 1 to 5 but I would say for Lein seems like she could be the masseuse for a professional sports team or something of that nature because she knows how to create solutions not only for problems you're having but also to avoid injuries by helping my flexibility. She mentioned that she started out in her career as a healer and that is very evident. I get massages regularly and am confident that this was the most helpful massage I've had without even knowing it at the time. Can't wait for my next visit!
