Owner and volunteers act with questionable behaviour…read more In the Summer of 2019, I enrolled my 3-year old daughter in the Pre-Primary Ballet Class starting September 11, 2019. We had our free trial during the summer camps in July, and my daughter fell in love with the whole atmosphere as she loves to dance whenever she can. On Saturday, September 7, 2019 I received an email from the school confirming the class schedules for the new semester. My daughter's evening class was set to start as scheduled on Wednesday, September 11, 2019. Come the first day of class, my daughter has been talking about dancing nonstop since she woke up. While we were getting ready to leave, I get a call less than 2 hours before class starts stating that we will have to choose another day for class because there are only 2 students who enrolled. My wife calls back frustrated at this short notice and inquired why this was not mentioned to us sooner, especially since we had the confirmation email on the Saturday prior. The "volunteer" who answered advised she would give a message to the owner to call her back. The owner later calls me back instead of my wife. The owner explains that classes get cancelled all the time, and we have to get used to that in this industry. The owner then tells me that she is refunding my registration money and she does not want my daughter to be part of her academy, because they will not tolerate parents yelling at their staff. Firstly, this is completely inconsiderate for my 3-year old daughter who was excited to be a student at the academy. Furthermore, this allegation of my wife yelling at their "staff" is a blatant lie, as my baby monitor cameras recorded the conversation, and my wife was definitely not yelling, nor was she insulting. Our registration fee is not refunded immediately, and I had to send an email to follow up on this transaction 2 days later. The response I got from the owner was a forward for an email she sent to the other parent whose child was registered for the same class as my daughter. In the email she edits the name of the parent to "Good Customer" and the email indicates an offering to let the child attend another class on the same day, but for a different style of dance. The use of the edit for "Good Customer" is a Freudian slip, and passive aggressive behaviour from the owner. I called her out on this, and there was never any response or apology. Finally, if we were given the same offer as the "Good Customer", and then continued with the revised schedule, this matter would have been resolved by the academy. There was never any answer why this was not offered to us. That same day this altercation with the owner transpired, we drove down to another academy and registered my daughter. Why we didn't shop around for an academy in the first place is my own fault, because the atmosphere, and the people at the new academy are worlds apart in professionalism from CDA. (TL;DR - too long; didn't read) So to make this story short, choose a select few schools and take advantage of the free trial that most, if not all, dance academies offer to see which one seems best to you and your child. If you expect integrity, professionalism, and more than 2 hours notice of a class cancellation, you might want to stay away from a school that is in fact named "Chantal's Dance Academy Dance Academy."

Attended the studio for the first time, class was led by a teenager with no experience or ability to lead grade school children. Other student dancers exceeded the age of the assigned group by 4 years and the exercises were extremely inappropriate for their age (neck breaking flips and jumps). We were ignored the entire time by the instructor - not even an attempt to engage. When approached the owner she was dismissive and offered a different class as though it was our fault. We understandably decided to pursue another studio, but she refused to refund our registration fee and never responded back to repeat email correspondence. Highly discouraging experience and attitude from the owner. Not sure how the business operates with such ignorant attitude. I would look elsewhere. We were able to find a more personable, cheaper and far more appropriate studio.

The owners demanded that parents spend around $150 in makeup using their link to a company for the end of year recital. My wife enquired of the necessity to buy this specific brand and the high costs just for a one time performance for a 5 year old. The 20 year old co-owner basically told her that if she didn't like their policies, that she could find another dance studio. We can appreciate the need for the kids to look the same for a performance. My wife questioned the high costs and the specific brand only, as she was willing to colour match and use a product she was comfortable with for our child. Nevertheless, the rude and discourteous co-owner was swiftly put in her place for the way she speaks to clients/adults. Shortly after, the business sent out an email allowing parents to colour match the makeup for the recreational performance of the small children It goes without saying, we do not recommend this dance studio with their immature owners and poor customer service. I hope this was a one off experience and no one else has to deal with this.

Let me…read morejust say that I have been to the Dance Art studio in Richmond Hill many times and it has always been very enjoyable. The lady in charge, Cristina Amalia Dina, can teach any dance, either American or international style; and she is assisted by another lady who also knows her stuff. The guests can request particular dances (e.g. fox trot, west coast swing) and the music will be provided. I remember one occasion when we practiced five different dances in the space of one hour. When I leave Dance Art I always feel happier. But don't take it from me! Try Dance Art for yourself and you won't be disappointed. P.S. Age is no barrier. I first took dance lessons when I was 81; now I am 90 and looking forward to more dancing after the pandemic.

If that wasn't enough, the CD skipped and 3 out of 4 songs couldn't be played/danced too - to say it was embarrassing with high level VERY important guests there is an understatement. The dancers themselves were ok. I was furious and they only gave us back half the money. I honestly would have given them the full amount to stay home. Yes, it was that bad.
