Some Tango schools will teach you just steps, and anybody can do steps. At "El Abrazo" you will learn more than that, with the right foundations and the technique you need to move forward and make your tango feel like a religious experience !. It took me about 3 years to realize I was wasting my time and money in learning useless steps, I came to realize the most important thing is social tango is how you feel in that embrace and its conextion. Andy & Ilona helped me to achieve that missing part and I will always be thankful to them for their valuable concepts and teaching. Today after 13 years of dancing Argentine Tango still learning more and looking forward to keeping embracing this wonderful journey that dancing brings in your life. Make sure you choose your teachers wisely and do not get impressed with fancy vocabulary in other schools, El Abrazo will for sure, make your dance journey a successful one.

Booked the space for a bachelorette party and it was so much fun!…read more We booked for a party of 8 and got the entire space to ourselves. They have a check in table when you walk in, get your heels (if you want), get changed and head over to the studio where there were plenty of poles for you to choose from. The entire experience and our instructor was amazing. It's something that none of us have ever done before so it was brand new to the entire party. The entire experience was fun but very hard, as some moves were difficult to do as a newbie. I love that they had spray bottles for each station so that you can wipe your pole before and after your lesson, since there was another group before us. The entire space is also covered with mirrors for you to check yourself out/ see if you're doing the moves properly. Overall, such a great experience and fun activity to do with friends! Highly recommend this for a bachelorette party!

Came here to attend one of the restorative yoga class in the smaller room across from the main studio. I can only comment on the facilities since the classes I attended is not one of the class on the regular schedule and the class was excellent! The room is really small and can only fit 5 student comfortably. I do like small class size but the floor is just really dirty and dusty. There are though enough props to go around. Noise level is quite high as it is facing Queen Street and you can even feel the vibration while lying on the floor if there is a "party" or a class going on next door. I though interest in one of their regular Pole Dancing Class, I definitely would try to come back to take one soon. Or maybe even organize a bachelorette or a divorce party here!

However, while the people were friendly, I found this studio to be a bit disorganized. a) The owner didn't know how much to charge me because I signed up through Meetup. She had to ask me how much the website said. b) The classes they were posted were not the ones offered. They alternated, so I was attending a class that I didn't really want to be in. However, the instructor was willing to change it. c) They said they had a big event the previous night, and we're still cleaning at 4 pm. Not very professional. There are better studios out there.

I've been very self-conscious about my ample physique for as long as I can remember so a few years…read moreago, I decided to get involved in something that would give me a break from feeling bad about myself for at least an hour a week. I started bellydance class and I've enjoyed it more and more as I've progressed. My friends tease me for it but I have absolutely no shame during bellydance class. I stand at the front of the room and I put forth all my effort. In fact, I bellydance with such reckless abandon that silver coins detach from my satin coin belt and scatter across the studio floor. Bellydance has made me more confident about being a curvy girl. I have a tendency to be an introverted chubby bunny but when I'm dancing, I am an exotic and voluptuous seductress. I smile coyly at myself in the studio's mirrored wall, transfixed by my own spiralling hips. I feel sexy instead of uncomfortable about having a little extra junk in the trunk. What I like about Arabesque Academy: - The instructors at Arabesque are excellent, knowledgeable and approachable. They all have lots of experience as cabaret performers and as teachers. - Most classes are drop-in which is great if you don't like to be pinned down to a specific date and time every week. - There's a real diversity of dance classes to try, in addition to the different levels. Supplement the standard lessons with classes in tribal, belly hop, folklore, conditioning, props... Also, the standard classes let you explore different styles of traditional Middle Eastern dance and music like saidii, khaleeji and cabaret. - The student gala happens twice a year and it is very professionally put together. It's so much fun to get dressed up and show off your well-rehearsed moves in front of a supportive audience. What I don't love about Arabesque Academy: - The studio isn't in great shape. The change room consists of a kitchenette with a length of fabric pinned over the door. The floors are coated with tape - this is a tough surface for doing certain dance moves, especially when the tape gets gunked up with strands of hair and stray coins. - The per-lesson price feels far too high when 18 people show up to take a particular class. I wish Arabesque would put an attendance cap on their classes, dependent on which room is being used. It's just not possible to get much from a lesson when it's too cramped to do 'snake arms'.

I never received any refund and they refuse to repay me A year later. I had to send 100+ emails and 100+ calls to get back the money for the dance recital Which was again canceled. Apparently sending me an emailing, which I didn't receive and offering online classes is what I get for paying for in class sessions? I suggest one of the other reputable dace studios in the city.

Nia is amazing, and each teacher brings their own energy to the practice. In fact, if you have tried Nia and didn't love it, I recommend trying another teacher or more. It's more about the right fit for you than it is about "good" and "bad" teachers. So, Jenn Hicks. She's amazing. She's not shy about sharing her personal story online and the struggles that lead her to Nia. She has a passion for mental health and celebrating the bodies we have. Jenn understands and loves it when you take care of yourself, so there is no pressure to keep up or do anything that doesn't feel right. If I need to slow a move down, or take a break, I know that Jenn respects and encourages that. I feel like she creates a safe place where I can show up, as I am, and dance from there. All of me is welcome here. You can be gentle. That said, if I wanted to pump things up and really work it, there is no one better than Jenn Hicks. That girl has more energy than anyone I know. She has a blast while she teaches and her enthusiasm is contagious. If you want a great workout that rocks your cardio while being kind to your body, this is the class. If I could describe her classes in two words, sexy and sweaty come to mind. The kind of sexy that is barefoot and strong. I often laugh out loud in her classes as well. And I love the music she chooses. It's all over the place, but always fun. Jenn is super playful but don't be fooled -- that woman is a powerhouse of wisdom. You'll be in good hands, and likely leave loving your body a little more.

Just a few minutes into my first class, I found myself loving it. It's a great addition to my work out routine. The no pressure, feel-good approach works for me, and yet I still get a great workout. Jenn's positive attitude and warm personality just adds to the overall feeling of enjoyment. I will continue with Nia and hope to reap the benefits for a long time to come.
