I had the pleasure of playing in the Hawthorne Volunteer Fire Department annual scramble tournament…read morelast weekend. The tee boxes and greens were the heightest part of the course. Its a 9 hole course with different tees for the back nine. It is not a links type where you go back and forth but need to pay attention where the next hole start and goes. The uniformly smooth greens were deceptively fast with wicked breaks. The fairways were lush and cut short. You don't want to land in the deep kevlar strong roughs like I did many times. The tall, really tall, trees line all the fairways and just beyond that is the desert....just pick up and save your clubs. There is a 230 yd straight par 3 that has a wall of 60 ft tall trees blocking the fairway. 40 yds from the tee is a 10 yd wide gap in the wall of trees that opens up to the 20 yd wide fairway. Giant trees line the entire fairway and the green. My foursome par it twice and were happy to do so. I'm a Californian passing through and brought my clubs just in case the Walker Lake golf course was acceptable. It was terrific and will try to return sometime. Mr Moto

With trainers or sign up via an app and fill out and extensive waiver. I get that the waiver is needed but I'd wished it would be easier for outside vacationers to get a work out in at a nearby gym. This isn't a new gym with new value--just the same ownership hiding behind a new name while offering less and charging more. I was told "it's still the same owners, so your contract is still valid." That might be legal, but it sure isn't ethical. My contract was with FF10, with a different pricing model and a different set of amenities. They've broken their end of the agreement, but refuse to release me from mine. Staff keep repeating that new equipment is "coming," but it's been all talk and no action. If you're considering joining, don't fall for the promises. What you see is what you get--old equipment, overcrowding, stripped-down services, and zero accountability. This is classic bait-and-switch. Do yourself a favor and take your money elsewhere.
