He is the quintessentially arrogant surgeon. At times, he appeared amused by my discomfort following my surgery and physical therapy. I asked when he thought the pain would subside or go away, and he said: "All pain goes away eventually." Really? At that point I thought to myself I've had enough of this self-aggrandizing schmuck -- and that afternoon I scheduled an appointment with another orthopedic surgeon. This guy radiates lack of interest in you or your pain. I don't expect miracles from a doctor, nor do I expect him or her to become my BFF -- but a do expect, and think I deserve, at least a minimal degree of empathy. Apparently, Dr Berdia skipped that class at the prestigious Pritzker School of Medicine.

His imaging diagnosis convinced me of the importance to move forward with hip replacement surgery. Summit Orthopedics works closely with Sibley Hospital so I was able to schedule a Monday morning surgery and overnight stay at the hospital. The Nurse Navigator Supervisor at Sibley provided information on Pre-Op procedures and an appointment with Sarah, Summit's Nurse Practitioner, involved a review of the surgical procedures and the list of medications with a review of frequency. Dr. Siram brought together a great surgical team comprised of the Sibley Hospital Orthopedic doctors and nursing staff and an anaesthesiologist. The first nurse assigned to my post-Op care placed top priority on Pain Control and coordinated a meeting with In-House PT/OT Team to review and practice the Post-Operative exercises. I completed 2 weeks of In-Home physical therapy with Potomac Home Health Care, affiliated with Johns Hopkins and Sibley. The PT specialist was exceptional: checked vitals; reviewed my medications; provided a home exercise plan that helped me to begin walking with and without a cane, before starting In Office Post-Op PT. I would strongly recommend the Dr. Siram | Sibley Orthopedic Team.

Sometimes the adjustment relieves my pain within one session but I usually do regular maintenance appointments since my insurance covers it. About 2 years ago, I had really bad foot pain, it took several Piezowaze Therapy appointments to help finally fix it (about 6ish months of every other week appointments). And the pain hasn't come back ever since. When Hena was added to the team, it made this practice even better. Prior to Hena, Dr. Lee did dry acupuncture too but just a little bit and mostly focusing on where I tell him the problem area is. Now that Hena was added. It's not always focused on pain, sometimes if I tell her that my brain fog is particularly high that day or I'm having alot of anxiety, she is able to do certain acupuncture points that helps with that. One particular day, my anxiety level was pretty high, and whatever point she hit, I weirdly felt instantly blissed out haha. That's the first time I felt that with acupuncture. I was very relaxed that day. The blissed out feeling doesn't always happen, but I definitely trust her. She also introduced me to cupping and I am now obsessed with it. I never knew anything about it before, and it's crazy how much it actually helps relieve my back tension and how it detoxes the body. Overall happy with this practice and always look forward to coming in as a part of my self-care and health maintenance.

While I was undergoing his patient healing ministrations, my RIGHT rotator cuff had a full tear. Another surgery. If it weren't for Jim, I would have been a "Bag of Bones." I FULLY recovered from both, and returned to work full-time, and for 2 decades enjoyed work, outdoor activities, and travelling around the world. At one point, my husband was also his patient. We went to Jim because only the best would do. A few years later, I went back to Jim for PT. This time for another unrelated injury. I was in a lot of pain, and had been out of work for 9 months. This time, it was my back, and I did not want surgery. Again, Jim's healing ministrations, specifically tailored PT routine, and I was able to return to work -- first part-time, then full-time. Now, 15 years later, in a freaky mishap, I tore both my biceps as well as rotator cuffs on BOTH sides (again). Back to Jim, because surgery is not a viable option under my current circumstances. I wanted a totally drug-free and noninvasive remedy. Jim's magical healing treatment is presently helping me strengthen my back muscles to compensate for the weakened arms and to become independent again. I owe to Jim my full recovery and restoration of the quality of life in the past, and I have full confidence that this time as well I will continue to make steady progress, and once again restore full use of my limbs to regain some semblance of normalcy in my life. Jim is a deeply caring professional who puts his patients' wellbeing first. He is empathetic yet will not hold back if, in his professional judgement, the patient's preferences may not be in their best interest. He is a straightforward chap. As Michael's wife, I have watched him deal with this hip pain for most of our 33 years of marriage…read more I've seen how much it affected the way he walked, what he could do, and just his everyday life. More than anything, I wanted him to finally have a real chance to get out of pain. Traveling from California to Maryland for surgery was a big decision. Michael has been an attorney in San Diego for decades and knows many of the top surgeons here, so going across the country was not something we took lightly. The doctors we saw here were talking about a much bigger open surgery. My husband, being my husband, had an enormous list of questions. A lot of the answers were already available in the information Dr. Christoforetti had put together, and his physician's assistant, Brian, answered many of the others. When we met with Dr. Christoforetti, he carefully went through everything with us and never made us feel rushed, even with Michael's never-ending list. One of the things that made me feel much better was understanding that doing the surgery through small openings did not mean he could see less. With the camera, he could actually get a very detailed view of what was going on and repair what he found without putting Michael through the much larger open surgery that had been discussed. Over the years, Michael tried just about every type of treatment available -- injections, physical therapy, and other non-surgical treatments -- without lasting relief. It meant so much to me that Dr. Christoforetti was finally trying to fix the actual problem instead of just treating the pain again. As a wife, there is a different kind of trust involved. Michael had to trust the surgeon operating on him. I had to trust the person I was handing my husband over to. Dr. Christoforetti made that easy. I felt that he truly cared about Michael and treated him the way you would want someone to treat a member of your own family. His whole team was wonderful to us. Being so far from home made both of us nervous, and having a direct number to Brian, his physician's assistant, gave us a lot of comfort. Dr. Christoforetti, if you ever make it to California, there will always be a place for you at our table. You took such wonderful care of my husband, and I would love the chance to return the kindness by making you the best home-cooked Persian meal of your life.

Yes, I love physicians who are on time and the office so efficient that I waltz out of there happy and ready to get on with the rest of my day. Maybe it's just me who felt bad about the reasons and cause of issues I have presented and I felt like there's really nothing anyone can do about it. Maybe I should just call it disappointment. I'm not sure. Whatever the case is, I will just go back to my regular orthopedic office I've come accustomed to.
