Harissa-rubbed half chicken-perfectly seasoned, with browned butter butternut squash ravioli

Bodega's basement feels like the kind of place you hope someone lets you in on--industrial steel softened by antiques, deep leather banquettes, and walls lined with vinyl that spins all evening. The atmosphere invites you to linger, so if you're on a schedule, let them know when you're seated. The harissa-rubbed half chicken was the surprise of the night. It had the crisp, deeply seasoned skin you'd expect, but it was the meat that lingered in my memory: impossibly juicy, flavorful, and cooked with the kind of care that reminds you what chicken used to taste like. Paired with Brussels sprouts and browned butter butternut ravioli, it was the best chicken dinner I've had in years. I can't speak for the upstairs dining room, but if the basement is any indication, Bodega understands that memorable meals are as much about restraint and confidence as they are about atmosphere.

Super fun little stop on the way downstairs to the speakeasy- The Rest Got an adult slushie - the service is amazing - and the ambiance is everything! The fries and charcuterie were amazing - some mix ups in our order were quickly rectified and the staff are amazing!

Tucked away in downtown Salt Lake City basement, this SPEAKEEZY completely blew me away. With its cozy lodge vibes - pink, warm wood, low, lighting, and just the right amount of taxidermy - it feels more like a secret Alpine hideout than a bar in the middle of the city. The menu is surprisingly refined, with creative, elevated takes on delicious bites and a cocktail list that rivals any big city lounge. Every drink was crafted with care and bold , balanced flavors. This place is in absolute gem - I must visit for anyone in SLC. Honestly, I didn't even know spots this cool existed here. He completely changed my perception of the nightlife in the city.

A definite MUST to check out if you're in SLC! I've been to my fair share of speakeasies and The Rest is certainly a gem with very unique vibes. It's downstairs from the main restaurant Bodega in the basement with taxidermy on the walls, funky music and a very immaculately stocked bar where you can watch your highly aesthetic drink prepared inches away from you. There are usually 2-3 bartenders who work incredibly fast - it's fun watching them tag team your order for peak efficiency. We had already eaten a suboptimally filling dinner elsewhere so were just looking for light bites and dessert/drinks to supplement, so my bf and I split the Mafaldine. Thinking that the highlight was their cocktails, I was absolutely blown away by the quality of the food. The Mafaldine is one of my favorite pasta dishes to date, prepared in a creamy and incredibly addictive miso sherry coconut sauce with chili crisps that was absolutely to die for~ After the first few bites, I instantly regretted not having dinner here and had to fight the urge to go for a full second meal. Other intriguing highlights from the menu that I would try if I came back are the swordfish skewers and beer can chicken (a whole thing that must be ordered in advance prior to showing up). The Fruit Punch dessert was almost too pretty to eat and very intricately arranged with a multitude of contrasting textures- a passion fruit-coconut panna cotta base topped with kiwi bits, persimmon preserve and pineapple brulee ice cream - totally up my alley as a fruity dessert girlie and just as divine as it sounds!! Don't get me wrong, the cocktails are delicious and their fall rotation is full of yummy cinnamon-fruity options -- the Gold Dust Woman is super yummy if you're a rum girlie like me, but seriously don't sleep on the food here!! Highly recommend Bodega & the Rest for an intimate date night or to take anyone you wanna impress. We didn't have any issues getting in on a Thursday night, but even at 6pm it was already pretty near capacity so consider making reservations in advance online.

Centrally located near all the spots that serve drinks, this place has a great chill vibe.... Once you make your way in and head to the speakeasy area, your greeted by a Record player at the doorway which is grovin' live throughout. Dope!!! My family of course was with me, & they took it back to the OLD DAYS, talking about speakeasies and how they really got down!!! We had 2 rounds of cocktails and the things I recall, the Honest John Bitters, Smoke On The Water & the SavvyC. The storefront is what it is, hence "The Rest" is cool. Coming up the stairs at the end was no bueno, but had a blast!. Intimate yes, but some of the wall art after a few drinks may have you paranoid and talking to animals!! haha.

Super cool speakeasy with true speakeasy vibes. Cocktails were definitely creative and the bartenders were knowledgeable. Wish they had a bit more variety in food.

I like to visit this tight and small bar to start off my night. Beware.. it is cheap tequila and beer for a budget friendly experience but there are more quality options. They recently added a tomato beer drink called Bodega-da. Which I do recommend! FYI--In order to have access to the speakeasy, you must get on the list. Didn't make it in this last time because it took too long and our group was ready for the next adventure... perhaps they were trying to make it more exclusive.. but it seemed uncoordinated and poor managed.

We had a great time when we popped in here for a drink before dinner. We only stayed upstairs in the bodega, but it was a lot of fun to watch the people come and go and get very confused over the speakeasy. The menu upstairs is basically hot dogs and limited beer and liquor/mixer combos. It was fun to people watch, joke around with our group and the bartender and check out the eclectic decor. Next time, we will make a res for the Rest and check it out.

If you go here, please, for the love of god get the hummus. Courtney was so sweet and patient with the rowdy boys. Great food, great vibe, great night with friends. Life is worth living .

The whole speakeasy aspect of this was so fun. I don't have a lot of nicer restaurant experiences, but this is one of the best ones in SLC. The food was delicious. I had the pork shoulder. Melt in your mouth. The drinks were great too. Lol

We stopped in here to have a drink while we waited for our table at the restaurant next door. We made it to the little bar where the bartender was the best. We had never been there before but asked what drinks were good, she gave some recommendations and then shared how she could change them to make them however we would prefer. It is a tiny place upstairs but cute. Definitely was pleasantly surprised for just popping in for a drink.

**This review is for the The Rest, the speakeasy inside the Bodega. Make sure to make a reservation! Went for a later dinner/drinks - they had a fun cocktail menu and a smaller but tasty food menu. For three, we got charcuterie (the size that serves 1), a very creamy pasta and three cocktails. Everything was delicious and staff were friendly! Note that there is a staircase to go down to the speakeasy, it's a darker lit room, and it's on a busier Main Street so parking may be limited!

"Don't worry honey, it's okay to look, and also throw money at the half-naked women! I promise you won't get in trouble!" Uh-huh. ;) Alright, I digress. Awkwardness aside, Prohibition is a really great place to enjoy a classy dinner, where the meat is served on a place AND on stage, and the cheesecake comes with the price of admission! Speaking of admission, as my wife and I were guests, being shepherded along by our friend, I cannot recall exactly what the "cover charge" was (not much, if I remember correctly...less than $20 for two?), and if reservations are *required*, I cannot say for certain, but I would say they are *recommended* at the very least, because our showtime was packed. Anyway, once paid, you are escorted through a secret bookcase door (SLC residents sure do love their speakeasies, don't they?), and into the dining hall and saloon, where you're soon to have your socks knocked off...well, someone's clothes are coming off, anyway! We were given a table that I dismissively thought was tucked away pretty far in the back and out of the way, but it ended up being one of the best seats in the house, as the table where the performers gathered, prepped, and returned to was just adjacent to us, so we were about as up close and personal as you can get, without getting yourselves arrested. Each of the dancers brought their own style, flair, and wardrobe to their performances, which were spirited and energetic, and a touch racy, without devolving into outright debauchery. It may be an (18+? 21+?) venue, but alcohol restrictions aside, I wouldn't hesitate to take older, more mature teens to a show with similar content. We ordered a smattering of smaller dishes, as we weren't particularly hungry, but the Mishima Wagyu tacos were fantastic (as you would expect), as was the Fedora Fin (Za'atar-crusted ahi tuna), and all of our cocktails. As the show is timed event with multiple performances per night, both food and bev are fired out of the kitchen/bar faster than the bullets from a Tommy Gun, but with far better accuracy. The whole operation here was honestly very impressive, from start to finish. Coming from a progressive city like Portland, it's always struck me a little odd that places that, by reputation, strike you as more conservative end up having some of the best, most wild entertainment venues, that you only wish you had back home. Prohibition is one of these places that I would rather see in my downtown, instead of the litany of seedy strip joints pushing for maximum titilation, but with only a fraction of the class and sophistication. Prohibition is good, clean fun, masquerading as something illicit, which is the heart of what makes it work so well.

In full transparency it has been 2-3 years since my first and last visit to Water Witch. I noticed this in my drafts and thought I should complete my review. That said, I think I hyped this place up in my head too much before my visit because of the James Beard nod. So when it didn't quite hit the mark for me, I was disappointed. It's quite an intimate bar. By that I mean small space inside. The main bar has seating of course and there are a few seating areas directly behind the barstool area. There is a small walkway that separates the bar and the seating area. So the seating area is looking straight forward at the bartenders and the backs of people on barstools. I felt like the people behind me were staring into my soul lol, but that's a me problem ha. It's a modern design and beautifully decorated. I had two drinks. One from the menu and one that I told the bartender what I liked and disliked. He then made a drink based upon my taste. In my opinion it tasted similar to the one from the menu, which was disappointing because I was hoping for something different. There was one bartender that evening and one bar back, so even with the few people at the bar (I'd say 6-7 including me and a guest) and the 4 people seated behind us. It took some time to get his attention and order a drink. Which is part of the reason I only had two drinks. I would probably give this place another try since it's been some time since I've been there. As I always like to say. Stop in and judge for yourself.
