Not everyone wants the meringue dress and 10 bridesmaids, or even a 10 minute ceremony in the stuffy old registry. Eloping overseas added an extra layer of paperwork complications and planning, so we set about finding someone local who could do the official stuff more to our style. We came across Melissa Jacob while looking for Melbourne elopement options (there aren't many it seems!) and liked her no-fuss offering. Upon meeting her, we knew that we had definitely picked the right person. She's approachable, easy going and really understood that just because we want low-key doesn't mean we don't care. She even offered to wear an Elvis costume for us. Melissa does weddings and ceremonies of all styles, but didn't make us feel awkward about wanting the bare legal minimum over a glass of bubbles at our favourite bar (yes this is how we wed, with a photographer and bar owner as witnesses). I want to high five the people she married recently who did it in their PJs eating toasties on the couch. She gave us a bunch of options and time offerings, right down to the 1-2 minute "you legally have to say this stuff" option. On the day, Melissa was bright and bubbly and had fun with us to create the simple ceremony proceedings we were after. She has a really great attitude towards helping people do things their way (even with living wakes which I hadn't heard of before meeting her but she makes it sound fun!) and while I hope not to need her services again any time soon - wouldn't hesitate to recommend her!

Every aspect of this brand new event space overlooking the gorgeous Albert Park Lake has been designed for the ultimate event experience. The space is vast yet cleverly sectioned with 2 balconies, a cloak room, a bridal chamber, 2 bars, a dance floor and plenty of high top tables with stools as well as places to lounge. The function I had the pleasure of attending was a cocktail affair as the sun set but sit down events are catered for too. The food is perfection, jam packed with flavour in delicate bites, ideal for popping in your mouth with one hand whilst you hold your well made cocktail in the other. The prawns were cooked beautifully and the homemade ice creams were creamy and delicious. I had 3. Introducing some fun to the event were a Dumpling stand (so Melbourne) and a Picnic stall where you could make your own gourmet open faced sandwiches but best of all was the candy bar arranged with an endless supply of quality candies and chocolates. I ate my weight in raspberry lollies covered in thick white chocolate. The acoustics in the room were great for a band and if the fancy takes you the roof is equipped to hold the equipment for a cirque de soleil style gymnast to perform any manner of acrobatics from it. The Park is above the Albert Park rowing club and importantly across the road from the Pullman Hotel should you wish to plan a big night and stay close by. I am looking forward to the opportunity to revisit this great space, fingers crossed someone I know has an event soon!

Even forgot to bring out the side dishes with the main meal. How does that happen? Five years ago looked at this venue for our sons wedding and asked for disabled access. They have a chair lift on a stair rail, only. We were told they are looking into it. Still haven't done anything. It's against OHS regulations not to have disabled ramp access, for quick evacuation, this is discrimination against the elderly and disabled people.

The dinner service was flawless, and the staff were very attentive, from making sure each guest was taken care of, to ensuring the bridal party and of course the bride and groom had everything they could possibly need. The main function room itself is beautiful. The room is circular, and the dance floor in the centre is surrounded by guest tables and a wedding table party that overlooks the room. I loved the set up, and it was a perfect set up for the perfect wedding. I also attended a couple of highschool presentation evenings here to accept some awards in my last couple of years of highschool. The venue worked well for that event too. Iwould highly recommend checking it out for your own events.
