My husband and I had the good fortune to dine at Ristorante Boccon Divino twice on our recent visit to the Florence area during which we stayed near Pontassieve. We are quite lacking in our Italian and the owner didn't speak English, but the menu was in Italian and English. And the owner's young son had had enough English in school to help out when we had questions.
Given that Pontassieve is land locked, we were surprised and delighted to find that Boccon Divino had the best seafood we had eaten in our two week visit of northern Italy when we had gone from Venice to the Cinque Terre. The mussels were large and a serving was a huge bowl full. The broth was well seasoned and we soaked up every last drop with the bread that accompanied them. Then the sea bass course outshone the mussels. The bass was beautifully presented, deboned, and perfectly cooked, moist not dry. The roasted potatoes were crispy on the outside. The Chardonnay suggested by the owner perfectly accompanied the fish dishes. For dessert, we had the house specialty tiramisu, which was divine. Served in an individual glass-domed dish, it had a thin dusting of dark chocolate on the top of the rich smooth marscapone-whipped cream-espresso-liqueur filling. Perfect ending to a perfect meal.
We enjoyed it so much, we returned and repeated our order. The prices were quite reasonable, less than 60 Euros for 2 entrees, 1 order of mussels, dessert, expresso and a decent bottle of wine. read more
