This is a quiet and clean state park. It is about a 30-45 minute drive from South Padre Island but it is worth the drive. Beware the road to this beach is a bumpy road, (space x people must live making this drive). The cool thing along this drive is that you drive pass Space X "Elon's Texas Rocket Home". Another cool thing about this beach is that it is the tip of South Texas and it separates Texas from Mexico by the river, cool. On the drive by to Brownsville you do have to stop at a border patrol check point but it is a fast easy stop they just ask you what you were doing. Go see Space X, see this nice beach but be ware of the bumpy road.

Beautiful beach park! Even cooler that you can drive through the SpaceX facility directly onto the beach! This beach you can drive onto the beach, I had a compact SUV rental, although I had the option to drive through the beach I decided not to because I've heard it can be tricky if you get stuck. The morning I went, it was very quite and not busy at all. I could see a lot of trash from other beach goers that was left behind but other than that it seemed very quite. There were other trucks that I saw drive by but overall it was a peaceful morning with no one around. I'm not sure how many beach access points there are but the one I used was through the SpaceX facility. It's a go-to before more security ramps up as they build more to the facility.

A great hidden gem near South Padre. The beach is never crowded and has plenty of space. The only downside is when Space-X closes down the beach for testing/launches. It is so unique how Mexico tourists/citizens will be on the other side visiting or fishing while you are doing the same thing just across a skinny little river. I am pretty sure someone was taking a picture of me while I took a picture of them. The border patrol station on the way back is really not much to worry about. They really don't ask to see your passport or anything. They don't even question you about your pets. It is just there in case immigrants try to sneak across the river in that easily accessible area.

Such a great beach! There is a spot where the Rio Grande River meets the ocean and you can look across to Mexico. So interesting to see that and the feeling you get standing there. It's indescribable. Great beach to find many shells and sand dollars. Not heavily populated so it was a great quiet day to watch the waves, feed the birds, and pick up shells. You drive past Space X on the way out too, pretty neat to see them building big space rockets!

You have to go here if you are anywhere in the Brownsville / South Padre Island area. Not only is it a great beach with almost no one there, but it is right next to the SpaceX launch facility. You drive right past the launch pad, only a few hundred yards off the road and end up on this great beach. Worth the 45 minute drive from SPI. It's only 8 miles away across the bay as the seagull flies.

I have never been to a beach and literally had the whole place to myself. This is a quiet, peaceful spot with lots of area to spread out and wander. I visited in late April and the weather was perfect and the water nice and warm. The beach was basically empty. I saw a couple walking and a sea turtle research person and that was it. There are no concessions or bathrooms. There were trash barrels every couple hundred yards or so. This beach is basically as far south as you can get in the mainland U.S. other than Florida. You can walk or drive right up to the Rio Grande River and the border with Mexico. When you leave the beach and drive back towards town you have to pass through a border patrol checkpoint. They asked what I was doing and looked through the back window of the rental truck and that was it. I didn't even have to show ID. The whole stop maybe took a minute. Another cool thing about this park is you drive right past the Space X launch site. Also you will drive through a federal wildlife area on the way in. There were tons of different birds and I imagine a birder would be in love.

The beach was awesome without being crowded. We drove along the beach and found a spot near the end of the world to set up for the day. Then the rain hit. Oh well it's worth your time if you're down this way

This beach was awesome. There weren't too many people there at all. Definitely a hidden gem.

We were received right away by the all too friendly staff and volunteers at the Beautiful Historic Rabb Plantation House. It's such a marvel of how well this 1892 Plantation Home has been restored and preserved. Walking through those doors you truly step back into time. The location: right on the most Southern Point in all the country. Sabal Palm Sanctuary literally lies against the southernmost point of the US-Mexico Border, along the Rio Grande. It was established to preserve one of the last vestige of original Sabal Palm forest in the U.S. In this endeavor, over the years, it now showcases what the land of this sub-tropical area would look like as if untouched by the hands of man and left to mother natures own devices. The result is ASTOUNDING!!! This Sub-Tropical Forest now attracts... hundreds of bird species which makes this a not-to-be-missed destination. Sabal Palms Sanctuary is by far one of the country's premiere birding hot-spot with hundreds of species that migrate through this region every year. "The Sanctuary sits on a 527-acre tract of land on the Rio Grande in Brownsville, Texas and is one of the most uniquely biodiverse habitats in the country, containing one of the last vestige of original Sabal Palm forest in the U.S. The Sanctuary provides breeding habitat for many endangered or high-priority birds and is a critical source of shelter and food for migrating and wintering species." --SabalPalmSanctuary.org
