Great place to be if you want to get some fresh air outdoors! Absolutely amazing scenery at night. Took some great pictures at sunset. I really like the paved roads. I wish I had my toad bike. If you are in town for business and want to get in some cardio before you head back to your hotel I suggest checking out Thai trail. Not sure how this only has six review. Maybe no one knows about it. Definitely a hidden gem in my opinion. I really enjoyed the trail and will be back for sure.

We came in for a hike along their shortest trail, which wound through scrub brush, mesquite trees and the overwhelming sound of cicadas. We saw lots of armadillos on our hike, and several strange, menacing looking birds. The park has a nice ranger station with a gift shop where you can rent binoculars and get patches and other gear that you'll need to camp and hike along the park's many trails. Be sure to reserve ahead of time on the website. The park is quiet, other than the insects. When we went, it has hot as heck, and nobody else was on the trails. They do offer a few bird blinds, or places to relax in some shade and observe the birds. There seemed to be a planetarium or telescope or something, but the armadillos were preventing us from investigating this.

I found this dog park on Yelp and we took the 3-ish mile trip. First, we noticed how vast and clean the dog park was. There was so much room to run around, and the place overall looked well-taken care of. Second, the regulars are so nice - both the people and the dogs. One guy, James, frequents the park often with his copper pittie named Penny. Penny was very friendly with Bucky, my Bostie, and soon the two were best buddies and playing. My mom, Bucky, and I stayed until sunset chatting with James, who told us about the park and the regulars. We had a great time here, and I'll be coming back the next time I visit my parents.

The location: right on the most Southern Point in all the country. Sabal Palm Sanctuary literally lies against the southernmost point of the US-Mexico Border, along the Rio Grande. It was established to preserve one of the last vestige of original Sabal Palm forest in the U.S. In this endeavor, over the years, it now showcases what the land of this sub-tropical area would look like as if untouched by the hands of man and left to mother natures own devices. The result is ASTOUNDING!!! This Sub-Tropical Forest now attracts... hundreds of bird species which makes this a not-to-be-missed destination. Sabal Palms Sanctuary is by far one of the country's premiere birding hot-spot with hundreds of species that migrate through this region every year. "The Sanctuary sits on a 527-acre tract of land on the Rio Grande in Brownsville, Texas and is one of the most uniquely biodiverse habitats in the country, containing one of the last vestige of original Sabal Palm forest in the U.S. The Sanctuary provides breeding habitat for many endangered or high-priority birds and is a critical source of shelter and food for migrating and wintering species." --SabalPalmSanctuary.org
