I've been taking my son here for over a year and Bob is great. It's tough to cut a 2 and 3-year-old's hair, but he is patient and efficient with my wriggly kiddo. $16 for the haircut, plus a lollipop. He has kids' books and some toys there too to help and/or for accompanying siblings. I tried going to a kids' haircut place once with those fun chairs and TV screens and honestly it was more expensive and they didn't do as good of a job. I've lived in Springfield since 2011 and I've always been eyeing up this old 15-story tower. Having seen Bob's van outside when passing by, I knew there was a barber shop on the 7th floor. On my way home from work today, I finally stopped by to see what it was all about. This is your classic barber shop. While the tower itself is quite old and in need of maintenance, Bob's is bright and airy with a great view to the south. There are four chairs and mirrors all over. It's well lit and immaculately clean. There is a comfortable row of chairs for waiting with magazines and a game area for children. Caroline gave me a beard trim and a quick trim around my hair line (I have a long ponytail, so just tidying things up). I was in and out in under 20 minutes and it set me back $12 including tip since it was just a trim. I'm glad I stopped in and I will be back on a regular basis. I've been getting my hair cut by Bob for years now. The first time I went there, after my old barber shop closed, my wife and my mother separately, told me that was the best haircut I've ever had. 'nuff said. Even though I go to Bob, there are many people that come in and ask specifically for Bob's wife Carolyn, or Jim or Leo. I have no doubt that they all would give a great cut. I can't tell you how long I've been looking for a legitimate barber shop. Not a salon. Just a couple of guys, some straight-up barber chairs, and a striped pole. Bob, who actually is the Namesake of the business was quick, professional and friendly. And he knows how to use a straight razor. Now, the location is a little unusual for a barber shop (7th floor of an office building) and the building looks a bit shady and very shabby but his shop is clean and bright. Although he is people friendly, his mastery of hair cut skill seems more likely average barber in my opinion. This an old Springfield legion. I used to get my hair cut a stones throw away from the current location going back to the mid 60s and some of the same folks work there today! I wear my hair a little longer then the classic military style and I was worried if I would get cut too short, but my barber listened to what I asked for and she cut to order. We brought my 9 month old son here for his first haircut and I also got a haircut. It was a great experience. Bob and the other barbers are very friendly and the haircuts were great. Bob does something special for first haircuts. He'll take a before and after picture and then make a cute certificate with a lock of hair for you to keep. That's a nice thing to do. Now, Bob's is in an old building on the 7th floor. The parking garage is currently having some maintenance done--so it looks a little sketchy, but don't let that deter you. Bob's barber shop has been here for a long time. It was kind of fun noticing how the barber chairs themselves were vintage. Bob's also does not take credit cards, but that's not that big of a deal. Both of my boys went there for their first haircuts and we continue to go back. It is a small locally owned shop. Very small, very friendly and family oriented. Not fancy as it is an old fashioned barber shop. No TVs or fancy decorations. For all first haircuts, they give you a certificate in a plastic sleeve with a before and after picture and they put the fresh cut hair in the sleeve as well. No extra charge for the certificate or the smiles that they give. Excellent choice for all who might be in the market for their little one's first cut or a new place with friendly faces. Bob has been providing haircuts in Springfield for more than 4 decades now. Their shop is on the 7th floor of the Springfield Tower Center, next to the Holiday Inn. I received my very first haircut after moving here in the mid 70's. Bob (and the others) are delightful and a bit old fashioned. It's a very pleasant atmosphere and I highly recommend. Bob's gets our highest recommendation. Our three year old son hates to have his hair cut. It is clear that Bob and his team have dealt with young children a time or two. Bob was patient and kind, and gave our boy a wonderful haircut. He had toys, lollipops, and did magic tricks; although our son still cried during his haircut, he was laughing by the end and gave Bob a hug on the way out the door. We'll definitely be back.
