Bobcat Alpaca tour was one of the highlights of my Scotland trip. This is a 10/10 must tourist attraction located about 25 minutes out of Edinburgh by taxi. Trust me, your whole family will love you for planning this and as a solo traveler, this was a great safe way to get out into the countryside and to meet new people.
I found this destination actually thanks to my brother who had come a year before me and highly recommended it. I trust his judgement and after coming it's an experience I will never forget. Ordered a taxi from the main city into the countryside, with the address from their website we were able to find this spot via taxi no issue.
This is technically a family farm who runs an alpaca tour. It's a family run and operated business, it was so lovely meeting the owners, Bob and Cat (hence the name). These animals are part of their family and we're treated with such love and care that I felt good about supporting this small local business. They have huge acres of farmland and many a farm animals. I appreciated that they had many alpacas to choose from and with a group of about 20 of us it was nice to still have variety. This kind of tour is great for small children all the way up to older adults. There is a lot of walking involved, but otherwise this was very low impact and fun. The kids do need some help handling/walking the alpacas, but it felt like a very relaxed tour.
By sheer luck, I picked the Alpaca Calvin who was an absolute love. I actually miss him dearly lol. He was such a good boy and super easy to walk. Loved being pet and was low energy. He kept up with the pace but also didn't pull me at all. He got along with all of the other people and animals no issue and seriously he has such a love bug. Many cuties here, but if you get a chance to pick Calvin for a walk, he is awesome.
We saw some of the best sites on this walking tour and really got a sense for the Scotland countryside. It all was very safe and again low impact but a good hour and a half round-trip walk. We captured so many beautiful photos and it just felt like such a relaxed and joyful experience that I really can't recommend it enough and is worth the price... Which is actually reasonable by the way.
If you get the chance to come to Scotland, I would recommend doing this tour even though it's slightly out of the city center. I still stand by this being one of the highlights of my trip and if I come back, I would do it all over again because it was such a wonderful experience. 10/10 all day long. read more
