Tennis Court

I recently took a tennis lesson here and really enjoyed my experience. Patrick was my instructor. He was great and very informative. He is very serious about the sport while still beginner friendly which I appreciate. Both the tennis and the the golf course are really well kept which creates a beautiful ambiance. I was also surprised to have a great experience at the restaurant on the property as well. The food was surprisingly good.

Bobby Jones is a has a beautiful golf course, along with an excellent staff. The course is up kept perfectly and those greens are something to be seen! Polite, professional, energetic, and eager to help new golfers. I am looking forward to coming back and playing the Azalea routing.

GPS in every cart. Bluetooth speakers too.

As an avid golfer who has lived less than 10 minutes away from Bobby Jones Golf Course since moving to Atlanta in 2000, I was always disappointed that the course closest to me: (1) was not very good; in fact, one of the worst 18-hole courses I've played and (2) didn't have a driving range. As I wrote in my review for the old course, I always told people that Bobby Jones was probably rolling around in his grave knowing this course was named after him (you can read reviews for the old course here: http://bit.ly/2KjkDUW). I can't say that anymore. What a transformation. I'm very happy with how the renovation turned out. The course's history is long and interesting. At a high level: The course originally opened as an 18-hole course in 1932, the city's first public course. In 2017-18, the course underwent a major renovation. It reopened as a completely different, modern, reversible, 9-hole course with practice facilities in November 2018. There's even a 6-hole course designed for kids and adaptive golfers. At the time of writing this review, parts of the property have yet to open or are still under construction. The big one is the new clubhouse set to open in 2020. The course is home for the Georgia PGA, the Georgia State Golf Association, and the Georgia State University golf teams. I've played on a lot of courses (http://bit.ly/2LPSCHQ), but never one with a parking deck (yep, this place has a deck). On top are tennis courts. Currently, the clubhouse is in a temporary building, but as I told one of my golf buddies, even the temporary clubhouse here is nicer than some metro Atlanta courses' permanent clubhouses (the declining popularity of golf has not been kind to many courses over recent years). The course has done a terrific job with branding and marketing. I love all the touches to the place, from the warning sign on the clubhouse deck (a nod to Bethpage Black) to the wicker basket pins a la Merion Golf Club (http://bit.ly/2ZoPfLa, used for tourneys and special events). The course's logo, an iconic image of Bobby Jones, is on everything including bag stands at the range and the bag drop. Even the bunker rakes are different: http://bit.ly/2ynePEt. They've brought their A game when it comes to social media. I especially like seeing the course's tweets about course maintenance. Check them out on Twitter at @bobbyjonesgc (http://bit.ly/2KdpjMj). The course has a very nice fleet of quiet and great-handling Club Car electric carts. The seats are among the most comfortable around. Along with club and ball cleaners, USB ports, and GPS, the carts are also outfitted with Bluetooth speakers. As you start each hole, the touchscreen will display a hole description and playing tips/strategies. On the day we played, we could pretty much drive wherever on the course we wanted, except for on/around the greens of course. Like other courses, the GPS will restrict you from driving in certain areas. The driving range is huge with 60 grass tees and mats. Grass/mat days rotate. There's a dual-dispensing Range Servant that you can pay at directly for range balls (no need to go to the clubhouse). They use Bridgestone practice balls. You can get a large basket of 70 balls for $15. Not sure what the other prices are. 20 range balls are included with each round. At the time we played, only one practice putting and chipping green was open. I don't recall seeing a practice bunker. All of the practice areas were in great shape. As for the course itself, where do I begin? First, they cut down a lot of trees, so that was sad. The design, done pro bono by the late Bob Cupp, is links-style and was inspired by the Old Course at St Andrews (http://bit.ly/2KhZ3At). There is no rough and with the lack of trees, it's hard to lose your ball. This wide-open, minimalist design can also make the course confusing for first-timers. Since several of the holes aren't tree-lined or clearly defined, it's not always obvious which direction you should be aiming. The reversibility is an extremely unique design. You can play 9 one day and play a completely different 9 the next day. The two 9s are called Azalea and Magnolia. They're reversed daily. Not only can the 9s be reversed, but there are 8 sets of tees, making this course playable for all skill levels. Azalea measures as little as 1,605 yards and as long as 3,667 yards; Magnolia plays 1,651 yards to 3,780 yards. You can think of levels 7, 6, and 5 as tips, blue tees, and white tees, respectively. Every green is a large double green with two pins. If you play 18 holes, you aim at the second set of pins on the back 9. The course was in excellent condition during our first outing recently. All that said, 9 holes on a weekend morning here is relatively expensive. We paid about $45 each for 9 holes. Compare that to Charlie Yates at East Lake where 9 on a weekend morning will only set you back about $26. You can play 18 holes on some courses in the Atlanta area for the same price as 9 holes here.

$19 for a bucket of 70 balls for their range before 2pm. Their website says they're $13 but this follows the theme of this course. Overpriced Edit: that's nonsense that you haven't charged that since November. See attached. It seems to go up on nice days

So if you're reading over this and thinking to yourself, "Boy, she doesn't know ANYTHING about real golf," you're right. I accidentally won a putting contest at work that secured me a corporate suite on the 15th hole for the Tour Championship, which apparently is an important event on the golf calendar. I bought some golf clothes on Amazon so they wouldn't kick me out and spent about five minutes looking over the roster (probably not the right word) before wandering down here to take it all in. My perspective is obviously skewed for multiple reasons, but a big one is that most of the attendees I encountered weren't in a suite (though there were quite a few of those temporary structures that I spied on my walk around the course). I think I basically knew this just from seeing coverage on Sportscenter in the past but I didn't realize how many people go to an event like this and just...follow specific golfers around. I just wrote up a review of Truist Park in which I complained about the lack of actual seating available and having to stand for long periods of time, and yet it seems like quite a few golf fans do that quite willingly. That must be very tiring. Anyway. For what it's worth, I thought the grounds were gorgeous. Very lush greenery, and the optics were greatly assisted by the weather - unseasonably cool for the ATL (probably 80ish) and partly sunny. I noticed toward the end of the day that some of the pathways on the grass were starting to get pretty muddy/worn down, but I imagine that's par for the course (pun not intended). The 15th hole where I spent the majority of my time had an interesting water feature; the green sort of juts out like a peninsula so if it's windy it's not unusual for the ball to fall into the water; since the weather was nice, we saw minimal drama at this hole, though Scottie Scheffler's repeat bid was probably officially thwarted right around here. I imagine a lot of places like this are only as good as their staff; everyone I interacted with at the Club was very professional and personable, from the employees overseeing the security area at the entrance (very easy process, which was probably aided by my decision a day earlier to remove the Swiss Army Knife from my keychain) to the myriad of people in and around the suite, who were always available for a quick chat and no judgment at my obvious lack of awareness. Top marks all the way around. I also have no idea how much work goes into this, but everyone involved in temporarily cordoning off pathways for the golfers to get from hole to hole without getting mauled by the fans? Impressive work. I can't imagine when I'll be back unless I miraculous win another random contest, but this was super cool. I'm more of a fan of the mainstream sports (baseball, football, etc.) - this was a nice change of pace.

I wrote my first review for East Lake Golf Club from my perspective as a spectator. I'm writing…read morethis second review (an update) from my experience as a player. I got to play this course recently and it was a real treat; truly a magical round of golf. Not to toot my own horn, but I've been fortunate enough to play some great courses like Pebble Beach, Kapalua, Doral, etc. To date, East Lake has been the only course to give me the same fantastical sensations that I experienced when I played the Old Course at St. Andrews (https://goo.gl/Fudnf6). There was something dream-like about our round. I think there are a few factors that contributed to why I felt this way: 1. Like St. Andrews, East Lake is a walking-only course with caddies. (This was a big part of it.) 2. East Lake is steeped in golf history. Of course, not as much as St. Andrews, but the club is quite historic. More on that below. 3. I've walked this course many times as a spectator, starting with my first Tour Championship in 2002. Since then, I've learned to appreciate the course and have wondered if I'd ever get the opportunity to play it. 4. This course is private and exclusive. You either have to know a member or be invited by a member to get on (or play in a special event or tournament hosted by East Lake). As I understand it, East Lake's members are primarily companies. I've heard there are individual members like Arthur Blank and Matt Ryan, but don't quote me on that. One of my coworkers used to be an individual member, but I believe individual memberships were done away with in the 90s when Atlanta real estate developer Tom Cousins purchased the club. I was able to get on thanks to one of my childhood friends who works for a company that has a corporate membership. East Lake is unlike most other private golf clubs and country clubs. All profits from the club go to the East Lake Foundation which was created to revitalize the immediate surrounding inner-city neighborhood. East Lake is the home course of Bobby Jones. He grew up playing here. The clubhouse is like a golf museum and a tribute to Jones. You can spend a lot of time just looking at all of the trophies, paintings, pictures, etc. It has everything from the 1963 Ryder Cup (which was held at East Lake) to the Calamity Jane, the "trophy" given to the winner of the Tour Championship (most recently, Tiger Woods in 2018). We got A+ service from the moment we pulled up to the gate. Our car was valeted and our clubs were taken down to the caddies near the practice area. We each got lockers for the day. I was assigned the Hideki Matsuyama/CSX Transportation locker. The locker room has ginger snaps, an East Lake tradition. The locker room attendant had our non-golf shoes laid out for us when we returned from our round. He also thoroughly cleaned our golf shoes. A bit of trivia: East Lake's beautiful and maze-like clubhouse was designed by Philip Shutze, a Georgia Tech grad who also designed the Swan House in Buckhead (which is where I'm getting married). We had a delicious breakfast in the grill room before heading out to warm up. We started with the practice putting green followed by the practice chipping/bunker area and then the driving range. The practice putting green is definitely one of the nicest practice putting greens I've practiced on. It was perfect and also scenically-located in between the clubhouse and the lake. The caddies sized us up at the range. I have to admit that was a bit intimidating, especially since our caddie was a former PGA Tour pro caddie. His name was Jeremy "Jerry" Rodger. I noticed his Scottish accent right away. He told me he was from St. Andrews. I told him when I played at St. Andrews, my caddie was American; now at East Lake, my caddie was Scottish. He then told me he knew an American caddie at St. Andrews by the name of Oliver "Ollie" Horovitz. Coincidentally, Ollie was my caddie at St. Andrews. That blew my mind. Jerry told me there are less than six degrees of separation in golf. I believe it. Our foursome was assigned two caddies. Each caddie carried two bags. If a caddie doesn't like your bag for whatever reason, they'll move your clubs, balls, etc. into an East Lake bag for the round. Jerry didn't like the way my bag sat on his shoulder so he swapped bags for me. Ransom was our other caddie. As for the course itself, it played just as I imagined. It was immaculate from tee to green. I loved walking on the soft, spongy zoysia fairways. The greens were hard and super fast. Jerry and Ransom knew how to read them like the back of their hands. Their green-reading skills were impeccable. I parred the two par-3s on the back nine, Nos. 11 and 15 (the island green); I'm very proud of that. I ended up in way more bunkers than I'm used to. Walking towards the 18th green, I could only think of the gallery swarming Tiger before his comeback win. I enjoyed every minute of my experience at East Lake and it's a round I'll remember for the rest of my life.

This was my first time at a Top Golf and I enjoyed all the games. They make them so you don't have to be a pro golfer to make it fun, in fact my sister has never swung a golf club but was able to win a game. Really the only complaint I have is that the bartender on the 2nd tier was not real professional. Me and a couple other patrons were at the bar for what seemed like 10mins before we saw her. Maybe she was just busy with stuff but even a server that was in the bar area just sat there in the booth looking at us. I would have expected in my place of business for that server to greet people and Atleast let them know the bartender is on an errand or freakin something other than look up and go back to her phone. Update: I replayed Charlie Yates Golf Course yesterday, Saturday, April 4, 2026, for the first time…read moresince October 2022. It was my first time seeing the inside of the clubhouse since it was renovated and reopened in March 2023. It's nice. I called at 9:25 AM for a same-day tee time. I booked 3:10 PM, which is the earliest time they had for our threesome. We finished at 5:34 PM, so 9 holes took us 2 hours 24 minutes. We had to wait at every tee and it got worse, especially on the last 3 holes. This wasn't surprising for a Saturday afternoon, but still, too slow. In the last 10 years, this was by far my longest round at Charlie Yates. There was a starter, but no marshal on the course to help with pace of play. There appeared to be enough staff on hand for someone to do a loop to speed things up. We each paid $43.56 after tax to play 9 holes with carts. I paid $37.98 in October 2022, so the price hasn't gone up much in 3.5 years. For the money, I still think this is a good-value and convenient public course with a fun layout and some scenic holes. This is why I'm maintaining my rating at four stars. The azaleas around the 8th green were in bloom. The greens were in good shape. I think some or all of the tee boxes have been redone since the last time I was here. Some looked relatively great; for example, Nos. 1, 2, and 4. However, some of the tee boxes were in bad shape; for example, No. 3 had a bunch of weeds and No. 5 (white tees) was mostly dirt. I know that box doesn't get much sunlight, but dang (check out my pic). Both the course and driving range were packed. Good business. Shout-out to Sabriya, who both booked my tee time over the phone and checked me in at the clubhouse. She was polite and efficient. If you call to book your tee time, you can avoid the online fee.

This course is as unpretentious as it gets. The staff is very friendly and there are no tee times. You just walk up and play. It's first-come, first-served. Note: This is a 9-hole course. The course is located just 2-3 miles west of Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. It's less than a 10-minute drive from the airport. Airport employees, College Park residents (30337 zip code), seniors, students, military, and law enforcement can play at discounted rates. Now you may be wondering, at rates this low, what the condition of the course is like. In my experience, the course conditions have been surprisingly good from (most) tee boxes to fairways to greens. I've paid more to play on courses in worse shape. Tee boxes are often neglected at public courses, but several of the tee boxes here have been in relatively good shape (for a muni) the times I've played. One reason this course can get away with such low prices is it's no-frills. The clubhouse is tiny. It's got a check-in counter, a little kitchen, fridges, a couple tables, a TV, and a mishmash of golf equipment including old clubs and rentable push/pull carts if you decide to walk. There is only one restroom for each sex. There are no locker rooms or various amenities or anything like that. The range ball machine is old and operated using arcade machine tokens. Sometimes, the tokens won't catch so you'll have to keep trying until the balls start coming out. A bucket of 30 range balls costs $3.21, 60 range balls costs $5.89, and 90 range balls costs $8.56. Range balls are a grab bag of Nike, Pinnacle, and Wilson Staff. The range is small and you can hit off either grass or mats. The range doesn't have club stands, further evidence of the no-frills description above. There is a tiny practice putting green with only two pins. The practice facilities are in adequate shape. As for the course, there are no bunkers. There is a creek (Camp Creek) and a pond. There are three sets of tees: blue (2,987 yards), white (2,835 yards), and red (2,147 yards). The course rating/slope is 67.2/116 which means it's not very difficult and great for beginners. There are two par 5s (holes 4 and 9), five par 4s, and two par 3s (holes 6 and 8). The longest hole is No. 9, the finishing hole, coming in at 465 from the blue tees. On the 5th hole, don't hit your approach shot too far or skull your pitch or chip. If you do, your ball might wind up hitting a car driving down Camp Creek Parkway. This almost happened to me. The 3rd and 9th holes run along either side of the driving range so the driving range net comes into play. If you hit your ball over the driving range net, it's considered out of bounds (OB). However, according to the local rules printed on the scorecard, if your ball winds up under the driving range net, you get a free drop (no penalty). You must drop the ball with just enough distance from the net so that you can perform a full swing. However, you cannot advance the ball any closer to the hole. The par-5 9th hole plays straight off the tee, but then severely doglegs left, around the range and up a hill to the green. You'll want to keep your drive and second shot right of center in order to have a playable angle to the green in regulation. Otherwise, the driving range net will be in your way, forcing you to lay up and add a stroke to your score. During a wet round, where we were eventually rained out, I was told holes 3 and 4 were cart path only. The course uses fuel-injected Yamaha golf carts that are fairly nice. There are water coolers on the 4th and 6th tees. There's an old ball washer on the 7th tee. In general, this is a compact course with rolling fairways and moderate elevation changes typical of a Georgia course. Despite the slow, mostly postage stamp greens, the holes are quite scorable so long as you keep your ball in play. This is far from the most scenic or memorable course in Atlanta. The design is simple and the layout is pretty straightforward. In the end, if you just want to get out and play a quick 9 (or 18), Historic College Park Golf Course will definitely help you scratch that golf itch. This course is not on any discounted tee time websites like GolfNow and TeeOff.com.
