Hunting around for decent coffee North of Hornsby is tough. There are few and far between cafes,…read morelet alone decent ones. So in the search, I came across Berowra Waters Garden House Cafe, and so set off to find it. Problem was the only address was Lot 1 Berowra Waters Road, so I found the Road and just started driving.... and driving.... and twisting and turning.... until finally I got to the ferry at Berowa Waters. Only issue was that I could not see Berowra Waters Garden House Cafe. I could however see a coffee sign for the Relaxation Boat Hire, so figured... as long as I was here.... why Not. :-) It turns out that they have only just bought a 2nd hand coffee cart, which gets maintained and supplied by some company (they were not sure of the details). In any case, while they have very little experience making coffee, walking them through the steps to make what it was I wanted resulted in a really good coffee. In their favour is an excellent grinder, a great coffee machine, and apparently some very decent beans. While words like ristretto and macchiato will undoubtedly get you a blank stare for your effort, the friendly staff here are extremely friendly, Now here is where it gets interesting though. Given the popularity of this coffee stand, they are looking at expanding it into a proper little cafe. While this is going to be a work in progress, and is unlikely to be finished until mid-2012, it might be worth keeping an eye on. This is also an important step forward given that the only other coffee currently available is from the Berowra Waters Fish Cafe on the other side of the ferry. It appears I am not the only one who does not enjoy coffee from there.
