My experience with Bob Ray suggests that they are good to work with as long as everything goes as expected, but if something goes wrong, expect to be very disappointed. A mistake on their end caused a tree removal job that they quoted would be done in one day to take four weeks to complete. After removing a portion of our tree on the first day, they never returned. A week and a half later we called, and were rudely told our job had been completed already. After working through the rudeness issue, they got us "back on the schedule", and it took another 2.5 weeks for them to complete the tree removal, which involved one trip and about 3-4 hours of work. During this wait there was no communication from them about the delay, and when questioned about it after the fact they blamed the weather (which was not supported by factual precipitation history). Our original quote also included the stump removal, and we verbally requested that the stump removal not be done, but they still did it anyway. We were partially at fault for not marking up the signed contract to reflect that we did not want the stump removed, but the way they handled the issue was very disappointing. They claimed no knowledge of our request not to remove it, and also claimed they would have told us to mark up the contract (which they did not do). But I also believe the stump removal would not have happened if they had done any follow up communication about the delay or even when the stump removal was scheduled (they showed up with no notice and did it while we weren't home). After the work was completed and we contacted them with our complaints, we were given tons of excuses as to why they wouldn't discount anything. Most of our issues were due to the one individual who quoted our work and was our point of contact for the job. He was the one who was told we didn't want the stump removed, and once the delay occurred, he was the one we left messages with that were never returned. Their management told us they underbid our job, claimed they told us that weather delayed the work (which was true prior to the start of the job, but not valid for the completion delay), claimed they had no records of un-returned phone calls (yet brought up to us they knew we had asked for a discount in these calls), etc.,. They have at least one problem employee (the guy we dealt with), and refused to attempt to do anything to make things right. The guy either has an issue using voice-mail or has an issue telling his employer the truth, neither of which are quality traits when he is the point of contact with customers. The actual work done was to our satisfaction (other than the 4 week delay and the stump removal we didn't want done), so they get 2 stars, but the customer is not always right when dealing with Bob Ray. You have been warned. read more
