Positioned near the Shalesmoor tram stop, it is good place to start or finish your evening on the 'Real Ale Trail'. From the outside, the Wellington looks pretty dingy (although it looks a lot better than it did when it was the Cask!) once you step inside you will be treated to a hunge range of real ales from several regularly changing guest breweries. There is the central bar area with a small room on one side of the pub, with a lounge bar on the other side. There is also a small beer garden at the rear which has been created since the smoking ban. Prices are very reasonable and there is a decent range of traditional bar snacks like crisps and pork scratchings. The staff are very friendly and will help you choose the right beer for you. Highly reccomended!

It's one of the city's most recommended waterholes, and indeed people go there for a nice, relaxed pint, or five. It's not much in terms of decor (especially the rather bare guest room to the left of the premises. I'd recommend to sit in the bar room part of the pub. The bar itself has an original design (see photo). The owner is a friendly elderly fellow, and knowledgeable about the beers. When I visited yesterday there was also a spunky, lively young woman behind the bar who enjoyed chatting with the rather "mature" clientèle. This is a bar for old boozers, so don't expect any fancy people here. Which is just as well if you ask me. There are limited food options, but frankly, this place is all about the beers. There's a fair sampling of the Kelham Island range, but there guest ales, too - and remarkably, not one but two German cloudy wheat beers, Erdinger and Schneider Weisse. The Kelham beers are great value at about £ 2.30 per pint, the imported wheat beers clock in at £ 4 and up. The Kelham Island Museum of Sheffield's industrial history is just around the corner, so you might feel tempted to combine the two.

The TV screens show live sports events such as football, rugby and golf. They're quiet though so it's not a sports pub by any stretch. When it was open it was deserving of 5 stars. A real gem. Please remember that as of 25th July 2008 the pub is still closed and to be honest looked some way off of re-opening.

However, I sort of got the impression that it wasn't one of those fancy pubs namely because it really seemed that only the locals where wandering around here. Beer garden is very nice but sadly spoiled by the smell of the pub owners dog's business which is a great shame and the only thing that lets the pub down. It's just not nice watching where to tread when you go out for a smoke and enduring the repulsive smell. They need to sort this out fast - it's been the case for quite a long time now. I don't see the point in putting effort into making it a nice beer garden when they just let the dog poo all over it! Other than the smelly beer garden it's worth a visit and a good starting point for boozing in the area. It often hosts very good live music and has folk and jazz sessions on a regular basis.
