He is personable and willing to spend more time with me when I have questions and concerns about my health on every visit with him at the clinic. Within a day or 2 he responds to my call or request for a new or refill my prescriptions. When my wife's primary care physician retired 10 yrs ago, I recommended to her to sign up with Dr. DeFrancisco as a new patient. Dr accepted her as a new patient with no problem. She is very satisfied wih him. It's now year end of 2021 and both of us are still his patients with out any complaints. He takes care of us. We are grateful for his medical expertise. He is an excellent Dr. Also his staff Nurse, Jennifer is great. Thank you Dr Defrancisco and Nurse Jennifer. My wife and I wish you both Happy Holidays and a Prosperous upcoming New Year 2022. Be SAFE.

My…read morehusband has been in the hospital for 3 days and Dr. Defransisco won't even return any of our several calls to his office! Meanwhile he has been in pain and suffering! Finally when someone from the office did call us she was very rude and we were told that he would need to find a new doctor since Dr. Defransisco doesn't do rounds at the hospital that we are at! Period! No referrals..nothing! He is a disgrace to his practice! It sure would've been nice to know this information much earlier. What a terrible experience! I warn anyone that is considering putting your life in his hands...he just might turn his back on you when you need him most. We will be filing a report with the Iowa Methodist Administration!

I had a total right hip replacement by Dr. Mark Matthes in August, 2014. During the operation he…read morebroke my femur bone and had to use screw and two metal fasteners to hold it together. Found that rather odd as I was only 54 yr old female at that time. His assistant told me the news next day in hospital with a big smile on his face. I did not find anything humorous about that. I requested the surgical report, and it said nothing about him breaking my femur bone and using a metal screw and 2 metal fasteners to hold it together. I asked him why it wasn't in my surgical notes and he said: Oh, that's just the template we use. I asked him if he could make the report accurate and true, and make some kind of amendment to it, and he refused to do that. First, he said he would, then he changed his mind. I was so let down and disappointed in him, I was just devastated. He comes off as a kind and caring surgeon, yet he is dishonest in his surgical notes. I also put my trust in him for pain management, and was in terrible pain afterwards. To this day, I still have to deal with this pain in this hip he replaced. Would not refer anyone to him. I lost all my faith and trust in that man.

Terrible time getting reimbursed…read more We saw Dr. Young who provided fine care. Had to pay out of pocket- nearly $6,000- as my child was not on our insurance yet. It took 3 months to get reimbursed despite insurance also coming thru 2 months prior. Got the run around from office staff with several conflicting excuses-- put on a reimbursement list, check is cut-should see it any day, billing isn't in house, etc. Finally getting to the point of absurdity and blatant disregard, we had called several days in a row, leaving voicemails and not getting anywhere or thru to anyone to help, at our whits end. Front desk must have gotten in touch with billing that was apparently 'closed' and the FINALLY sent the funds back to the card I originally paid with. Pretty easy fix for the absolute nightmare we went through to get repaid for a service rendered in early June. Would not recommend.

Dr Young, 5 years ago referred us to their affiliate allergy center next door, and they said my…read moredaughter was allergic to everything, after a prick test. These people were NOT Board Certified from before 2018- until who know if they are now after their submitted my complaint to the Iowa Medical Review Board. Details below: I took my daughter here to see Dr. Etan Young for coughing symptoms. On the first visit, Dr. Etan Young did not use his stethoscope to listen to her chest or back, instead he listened to me narrate her history over the last few years (of her intermittently getting a cough that would not go away for a couple of weeks). He told me he did not need to listen to her chest because from what I had told him he was sure it was asthma and to continue using the ibuterol inhaler and recommended I get in with the allergy center. He said the allergy center was a separate entity managed through them. I set an appointment at the allergy center at that time which was ,"United Allergy", the same building and down the hall from where we were seen by Dr. Young. As suggested by Dr. Young, we made an appointment at that particular allergy center. They conducted a prick test and determined Emilie was allergic to everything (all grasses, trees, weeds, mold, dust mites, feathers, cock roaches ). They said we should start her on allergy shots right away. The first 2 round of shots were done in their office and after ensuring we could confidently administer the shots on our own, they instructed us to administer the shots to her at home and return for the new vials containing higher doses each month. Once we were made aware of my daughter's allergies, we made sure to do everything possible to make her less susceptible to coming in contact with these allergens as much as possible. (We purchased special pillowcase and mattress covers, paid for a deep cleaning on our home without harsh chemicals, had our entire homes ducts cleaned, removed all stuffed animals from her bed, bought chemical free products, and kept our daughter inside on high pollen days (there were many times she was not outside playing with friends because of her alleged expansive allergies. We were very fortunate that an encounter of the mother of one of Emilies classmates, Dr Young, 5 years ago referred us to their affiliate allergy center next door, and they said my daughter was allergic to everything, after a prick test. These people were NOT Board Certified from before 2018- until ?!, if they are now after their submitted my complaint to the Iowa Medical Review Board.

Check in is very easy and copays are due at check in. And YES they take credit/debit cards and have chip reading technology. The wait after check in is usually not long even when busy. I believe the longest I have waited is 10 min. Not bad. The medical staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. They take the time to get a history and do a thorough examination, and make sure you get the appropriate care you need when you need it. If you are moving to the Ankeny area and are looking for a practice you can rely on and trust, give Mercy Briarwood a try. Regardless if you are 5 or 50 they have the staff to care for whatever your are requiring of them. You will not be disappointed.

He was fine, and we went back it to get the one he missed, but this seems like serious negligence. We are now changing offices because we no longer trust the staff.
