The…read morenature trail is a quarter mile loop that goes through different ecological zones such as seashore zone, hardwood zone and flat wood zone. There are benches along the loop. The loop is gravel and boardwalk and is easy to navigate. Stunson Nature Trail has participated with the Million Orchid Project in which native orchids are planted (I didn't see any) The trail was very well maintained. It is a nice walk if you are in the area. It is next to Royal Palm Park, that is where I parked.

The nature trail is named for longtime city manager John Stunson who died in November of 2016. There is a dedication plaque at the entrance of the trail to him. The contractor on the project was MBR Construction. The created an educational walking trail with emphasis on environmental zones, an enhanced wetland area, new landscaping and irrigation, creation of earthen berms, and new fences and landscaping. $474,000 was spent on the walking trail and another $27,000 for the archway entrance to the trail. This trail is a welcome addition to Oakland Park. You can park at Royal Palm Park located next door and walk over. The natural ground trail is perfect for all fitness levels. Native plants line the trail as it winds around a lake and passes through six environmental zone. Once you finish walking here you can pick up the fitness trail at Royal Palm Park.

U.S. troops under the command of Lieutenant Colonel James Bankhead and Major William Lauderdale attacked a large Seminole village on top of Pine Island Ridge, an island in the Everglades at the time. The village was headed by Abiaka, who had recently become the principal chief of the Seminole Indians. As the U.S. troops approached the village, they were fired upon by Seminole warriors perched in the trees on Pine Island Ridge, who held off the U.S. troops long enough for Abiaka and the other villagers to escape. The attack ended in failure for the U.S. troops as they failed to kill or capture any of the Seminoles, who successfully evacuated their village without casualties. The battle was the closest the United States came to catching Abiaka during the Seminole After repulsing Zachary Taylor's army at the Battle of Lake Okeechobee, the Seminoles under the leadership of Chief Abiaka relocated south to Broward County. Abiaka and his people then built a large village on top of Pine Island Ridge, which is 29 feet above sea-level and the highest point in Broward County. A Seminole traitor named Billy Benefactor told the U.S. Military about the location of the village, and that it contained up to 100 warriors. General Thomas Jesup then ordered an operation to attack Pine Island Ridge. Jesup assigned the operation to Federal soldiers of the 3rd Artillery Regiment under James Bankhead, and volunteers of the Tennessee Militia under William Lauderdale.

The tiny park is located just south of the United States Post Office on Hiatus Rd. The vision for the park was to sustain a Wildflower Meadow which serves as a bee and butterfly pollinator habitat. Absolutely no legal parking for vehicles causes me to scratch my head, with direct access only from the Hiatus Road Greenway by bike lanes or walking paths. Dogs are welcome and waste disposal stations are offered. My EXPERIENCE today with my puppy in the park was OK. The pressed black rubber path was cool for my puppy's paws during his walk. Great park to relax while peering at the tropical landscape or take a brisk short walk but not really a place to burn alot of calories.

The park was established as a Meadow Habitat for butterflies, birds and bees and there is a board explaining all the varieties of flowers that welcome them. Walked my dog through the small pathway that was engulfed by beautiful foliage and trees. It's not really a place for bikes but they have a bicycle air pump station. Hard to get to but worth to visit once if you enjoy nature.

Went walking with 4 friends - one being ex military and another being a professional photographer. Someone with a good lense and great skill will be able to take some beautiful pictures that the common eye will not catch. What they shared in the group chat would be called catfish. I'll circle back in 6 months and maybe I will see improvement or at least some progress.

Was craving some nature time and a friend suggested to come for a walk at Chapel Trail Preserve…read morelocated in Pembroke Pines. Of course I'm always willing and eager to explore new trails and preserves. This preserve has a raised Boardwalk about almost a mile in. Loved the tranquility and beautiful views of the wetlands. Lots of educational signs along the boardwalk about the flora and fauna in the area. Expect to encounter some wild life like turtles, rabbits and even alligators although I didn't see any alligators. The preserve has some shaded areas and is perfect to practice your photography skills as there are plenty of plants, flowers and beautiful views of the area that makes for beautiful photos. Great for casual walkers and families. Plenty of parkimg available. I think you can drop your kayak or canoe as I saw a couple of canoes near the entrance. Overall nice area despite the boardwalk's need of some maintenance. Nice preserve to visit.

Poliakoff was honored with the park by being SW Ranches first attorney. It was a cool day so the wife and I took a nice walk through the park and peered at the multi-colored wall mural. We defeated the sun by taking refuge under the metal roof pavilion and watched the birds and ducks around the tranquil lake (see video). The park had several posted signs explaining the wildlife living here like the Common Moorhen/Gallinula Chloropus or water bird. There are only two entrance paths both accessible by foot behind the CVS or along the sidewalk on Griffin Road. No parking in the park, only behind the CVS. PARK #66

So I was looking for the Tall Cypress Natural area (see my other review) and shot past it in my…read morecar, and then noticed these two pretty lakes on the side of the road, Lake Lynn and Lake Katie. This park, two lakes, walkway, is actually located inside a housing complex but surely open for everyone to use in the know (wink wink). I saw people jogging, sitting, fishing and walking. It is basically 2 lakes that lead to a canal and you can walk in between them, under HUGE electricity pylons. There is a big fountain in one of the lakes, and plenty of pathed walkways and benches, a real nice peaceful spot. There is not parking as far as I could see, as I think this recreational area is for the complex, so probably not needed, but you could park at the very nearby Tall Cypress park which is a five minute walk away, ie the same place - and enjoy both!

The entrance to Lake Forest Park is within Anne Kolbe Nature Center. Stay to the right as you drive…read morein and you will see the path that enters the preserve next to the lake. Anne Kolbe does not allow fishing but Lake Forest Park does. Lake Forest Park has two overlook piers for fishing on the intracoastal waterway. The trail has a boardwalk that goes over channels that connect the intracoastal waterway with the Atlantic Ocean and West Lake. Lining the waterway is an important environmentally sensitive mangrove swamp. Mangroves protect shorelines from storm and hurricane damage, prevent erosion, maintain water quality and clarity by filtering pollutants and trapping sediments, and they provide nesting and breeding habitat for fish and shellfish and migratory birds. As the dying leaves fall off the mangroves into the water they form a nutrient rich soup that feeds animals. As the tide goes out the food and animals are drawn into the intracoastal to feed predators. The tide washes animals in search of food back into the estuary. Even if you are not fishing this is a very pleasant walk with beautiful views of the intracoastal. In the preserve you may see crabs, fish, birds, and even manatee in the winter. Sadly not everyone who comes here to fish takes their garbage back out with them. Take only pictures and leave only footprints.

Cooperative efforts between the Forman family, City of Parkland Mayor and City Commissioners, Broward County Board of County Commissioners, and Riverglades Elementary PTA have enabled this once endangered native land to be planned, restored, and opened to the public under the 1989 Environmentally Sensitive Lands (ESL) Bond Program. In order to further a common goal and protect this uniquely diverse 20-acre site for public enjoyment and education, Broward County voters, on March 14, 1989, approved a $75 million bond issue referendum to acquire this and several other sites across the county. In turn, to provide public access, site amenities were designed, including a 5' wide, 900' long pedestrian trail traveling through pine woods and a 1,550' boardwalk meandering through cypress wetlands and past a breathtaking oak hammock. Two seating and observation areas along with a pavilion area are located along the trail. The public is encouraged to view this wondrous natural resource, to absorb its beauty, and to learn the importance of its preservation for future generations' quality of life. This is a nice, quiet place to go for a short walk. I saw hardly any people. It was kind of attached to a school with a fence which I guess is nice but didn't want people to think I was creeping about so I stayed away from it. Lol. There is no official parking so you kind of have to park on the street. I wasn't towed so I guess it was ok. I would return.

The trail is nicely shaded and the path is wide and stable - might be a nice short running route. It links to some other local trails! The trail offers some side of the road parking, which seems to be underutilized. The park offers free bug spray at the entrance, which is spectacular because I can imagine it may get buggy in all that glorious shade. I love finding spaces like these, and look forward to coming back with the kids.
