Franklin D Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum - A letter to FDR from child star Shirley Temple.

STEPH JUDGEMENT: The OG Presidential Library that's still going strong…read more FDR was the first to make his archives public, starting the Presidential Library tradition. The museum building and grounds were very well-maintained, and the exhibition signage looked recently updated. It was a great way to learn all about FDR the president as well as the man, and all his accomplishments as well as failures. I was glad to see that there was also a lot about his wife, Eleanor, who lived for many decades after his death and influenced the world greatly in her own right. On the day of our visit they had free admission to the Roosevelt House Museum, so we took advantage of that as well. Overall we had a great time and learned a lot--a worthwhile stop.

Presently, a special exhibit called "Signature Moments" letters from The Famous, The Infamous and Every day Americans to President Franklin D. Roosevelt and Eleanor are on display. It's truly a must see! The rest of the museum and library has several video rooms of his speeches, pictures from all 4 terms, his actual Presidential desk, room for radio addresses, his car designed to accommodate his disability and so much more.... Another section is dedicated to his wife Eleanor Roosevelt. A woman who was truly ahead of her time. In the library, there was a file cabinet where J Edgar Hoover kept FBI information on Mrs. Roosevelt. The first time we visited the complex, we toured the home and less than half of the library and museum. To throughly visit both places in one day would be too much. On 9/30, we returned to completely tour the rest of the library and museum. Totally impressed with the thoroughness of FDR Presidential Library and Museum. He was a President for all people.

Although I can still technically be called a student at Dutchess Community College, I haven't been…read moretaking classes. So when I stepped into the college library yesterday, I was thankful that for those 15 minutes of peace and quiet downstairs, I was awarded them. From the time I entered till the time I exited the library, I was never bothered with questions of why I was there. However, I knew that disturbances would be dealt with otherwise. I was actually looking for a relaxation spot for fifteen minutes - I knew what I wanted and knew where I could get it - I had been there several times before, but it was something achievable. My student ID card is about 12 years old, and I don't have a myDCC account (therefore I couldn't log onto the computers upstairs), but that wasn't the fact I was looking for. I knew I could browse the rather large (more research-type) library but I didn't need to (I like to own books, not borrow them, hence the reason why I have an Amazon Kindle). However, those fifteen minutes I spent here were cherishable. I've used this library as a reference library in the past when I actually had classes I was attending, but those experiences happened long ago and not something I can say much about here. The floors and other reference rooms which had windows seemed somewhat clear, but then again this was towards the beginning of the academic year and not enough time for debris to fall. I just don't like the position of this library. Although it's up an elevator, it's got very little on that floor (with the exception of a walkway to student services center (SSC) and other student services (tutoring center). I can never spot a single bathroom in the hallway of the third floor, nor can I find one anywhere on, in or near the library - there is one just on the second floor just out of sight of the doors downstairs, but the library wants no one going out the downstairs library doors. Found a few water fountains though. However, there's also a few signs on a few tables saying "no food please". I noticed the sign of how items could be wirelessly printed (using your student ID) from your own computer or device, however, I'd think this sign would travel around the library as students move it, however, few students were there when I was there late afternoon yesterday. I thank you. I do hope one day I'll be back as a student taking classes again and you'll be worthy of my visit. You provided me what I needed, I do thank you.
