I went to their store and was going to buy a board game when I noticed that the price seemed a bit high. I have no problem paying MSRP for a product at a local store, but they were charging ABOVE MSRP! I thought it may have been an error, so I checked a few more games and ALL were above MSRP! I asked the clerk behind the register about it and there was no real explanation given - he simply said he'd call the 'owner' and see why. Of course, there was no answer and no explanation. And, there was no sale! I like supporting local game stores, but charging above MSRP is a non-starter for me. No way I'll ever set foot in their stores again. read more

Bought 33 packs of Pokémon shrouded fable packs from their online store. Pulled 0 IRs from them. Not a single hit. For reference, you are expected 1 IR every 13 packs on average. To have none after that many is about a 7% chance which is really suspicious. Ultra rares are about 1/14 packs. Only got 1 out of the 33 which is a 22% chance of happening. Did not pull an SIR but that is to be expected. It is possible to be this unlucky, but with the prevalence of weighing/resealing, I would be cautious about this place after my results. Prices on their site are also pretty far over market value. read more

I went here yesterday with a friend looking for a game to add to my winter collection. I purchased two games and she purchased one. We had THE BEST time in this shop. We were helped by a staff member named Gordon. He was amazingly knowledgeable about every game we questioned. We wanted to wrap hom up and take him home as our private game assistant! He was better than Google and Alexa put together!!! We intended to just run in and pick up a oldy but goody but ended up shopping for something new. Games have really changed and there is a lot more than Monopoly and Operation out there! Gordon was patient, funny, and had just the right temperament to keep everybody engaged and intrigued. What an amazing young man!! The store is practicing COVID-19 safety protocols. After, people come in with young children so don't be a jerk! Mask up! Besides, it's just fun to check out all the great ways to stay mentally stimulated this winter -- whether alone or with friends, drop in and find the games that suit your needs. If you can't figure it out on your own, don't be shy, ask for Gordon! He will WOW you with his knowledge! Before you leave, buy a game, ask about the newsletter, and sign up for a MVP account if you plan to spend more time in this shop. Boardgame Barrister is supposed to be a RETAIL store. providing toys, boardgames, and playing cards etcetera to families and collectors alike, but now they've decided to start charging DOUBLE RETAIL VALUE for the new pokemon set. in their words, "we don't want to be scalped off of." so instead of having some integrity as again, a Retail shop, they become the scalpers and charge children and families a massive upcharge. this is disgusting and will never shop here again. read more

Been playing table top games for a few years now. I've visited many game stores, and this one is by far my favorite. I've been on three separate occasions and purchased games every time. One was a birthday gift, one was for a family event over the holidays, and again before a trip with another family. Every time I found the right game for the situation. The sole reason I found the right game is the extremely helpful employees. They're basically like sommeliers for board games. I told them who was playing, the attention level, past games that were successful, etc. I could see the internal wheels turning as they worked through their mental catalogue of games and landed on excellent suggestions. Prices are very fair and the points in the MVP membership accrue quickly. Two huge thumbs up from me. read more

The Board Game Barrister had a huge variety of games for all ages. Many were board/card games, but they also had puzzles, stuffed animals, toys, and other items. The selection was massive. I was disappointed in the high prices. While I want to support a locally-owned business, paying 25-50% more than Amazon for example on a $50 game is asking a bit much. read more

I love board and card games, and so does my family. We stopped in here just to browse and ended up playing a short round of the month's advertised game with one of the helpful shopkeepers. Super fun to have a hands-on demo, and staff here makes the rounds to chat with customers and answer any questions, explain the products. Board games, card games, D&D, GO, Magic, unique kids' toys, 20-sided dies, they have it all! They also have a large area devoted to gaming; where people can come and play games or trade cards (we saw both on our short visit). It's a great little community they've got here. Although a little bit pricier than buying online, what they offer here is unique. We bought the game of the month, and we're looking forward to testing it out on family game night! And I'm looking forward to coming back to Board Game Barrister for more. read more

I've only been here one time. The choice of games is amazing. It's total sensory overload. And the prices are decent, about the same as smaller shops, more than you might spend online. My only real complaint is that we were approached five times by five different people to see if we needed help. It was frustrating that we couldn't have even ten minutes to browse without help. This is a five star institution at every single level. They provide excellent customer service. They offer a wonderful selection of games. A staff that is knowledgeable about their products. They host a plethora of events from Pokemon to Dungeons and Dragons that buoy community involvement and foster friendships. The prices are competitive, but you should be willing to spend a slight amount more than you would at an evil conglomerate like Wal-Fart or Shamazon. Support local businesses like this, run by people who are passionate about their products and community. Don't buy from institutions that are infested by Chinese scammers or greedy Bezos monsters. Went to the Glendale store yesterday. Best game store I've ever been to. Large, well organized selection, original games as well as extensions, jigsaw puzzles as well as educational toys for younger kids. The staffer, Jeremy, was knowledgeable, helpful but not pushy and super earnest. We got everything we were looking for and a few surprises. Husband looking forward to drinking coffee and playing board games on site after COVID. Also..... great mask wearing and sanitation. read more

I like this store a lot. A group of friends get together monthly to play fun group games like Catch Phrase, Charades, Pictionary, Buzz Word, etc... This store has all the games in case we need a new one. They also have a good selection of Legos. If you are into Dungeons and Dragons or the various card games like Magic, they have game nights inside the store. Although that is not my thing, many teenage boys would have a great time. read more

I really treasure having this store close by. Board Game Barrister stocks toys and games for ALL the ages. My toddlers love trying to load their arms with dinosaur plus toys and giant floor puzzles of, you guessed, dinosaurs. I am also impressed at the amount of games for adults as well. Murder mystery games, classic game night options, and even those long term board games like Risk and Diplomacy that are all about strategy. In the back of the store is a space for I'm guessing tournaments of some kind. They look quite popular! Maybe someday when my kiddos are older I will learn more about that. But really what I love about the store is the friendly and helpful staff. You don't get that ordering from Amazon. It is a great experience to explore the shelves of this store and heartwarming to watch the next generation enjoy the games that were magic to me growing up. read more

Great selection, ABOMINABLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. Will not go back. Grandparents gave games (recommended by store management) to my kids in December. One was excellent, the others we decided to the exchange the next time we were back in Milwaukee (we live in Chicago). Came in today, and store manager REFUSED to do anything for us - no store credit, no exchange for $70 worth of games. Claimed he could not do anything for us because it was several weeks beyond their 90-day exchange policy. VERY disappointing; so much for supporting the independent toy seller over the big box store! read more

I'm blown away by how friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful the staff is here. I felt so welcome there from the moment I got there and throughout my time at the store. The layout is just so perfect. It made so much sense and was easy enough to find everything. If we were unsure, on the weird off chance, the staff was always there too help us out - and not in an overbearing way. This is the worst game store ever. They over charge for everything I've bought from them and refused to sell me the cards I needed to enter a tournament until after the tournament started. My daughter and I went here today to celebrate International Table Top day. We met a friend there and then met a lovely young family we didn't know. Played a couple of the store's games and had a very nice afternoon. One of their volunteers walked us through one round of a game we were unfamiliar with. The employees are friendly, courteous, and very knowledgable. Store is clean, bright, welcoming, and well laid out with a great selection of games and puzzles. read more

The only complaint I have is when I called the other day asking about a product that isn't released yet. The conversation went something like this, Me: "Hi I was wondering if you guys had the new Imperial Raider for x-wing?" Lady on the phone: "No we do not have that in yet." Me: "Okay do you know when you might be getting it?" Her: "We'll get it when it comes in" Me: "...okay, thanks..." Maybe it's just me but that came off as really rude. If you don't know the date then say, "no, I'm sorry I don't know when that will be coming in." not this it will get here when it gets here bullshit.
