Story Hill Firehouse - Dinner program

Story Hill Firehouse

This was hands down one the smoothest experiences I've had as an event planner working with a…read morevenue! I plan 5-7 conferences/symposium per year for the past 5 years. Now this is a smaller program that I put on so I'll compare it to just the same program and even with that smoothest experience! First off the space was perfect for our dinner program of 60 guests. This is a networking/educational event so we also have an exhibit hall with pharma partners the bar side of the space was perfect for our limited 6 exhibitors. It was a gorgeous evening so we had a few tables outside and had the big door open to the dinner space to have an inviting entrance during the cocktail/welcome hour with the registration table right inside that door (which we then converted into the dessert and coffee table). I had a wonderful time working with Janelle when we did a walkthrough she helped in selecting the linen to match our marketing materials for the event and we worked through nice weather layout plan versus hot weather! Her bar team did a wonderful job with our special drink request (again to match the theme for Menopause the topic of the talk). Janelle was also so helpful with set up I've never had assistance like that and I really appreciated it! She was also very hands on throughout the event like a full second the whole time even managing communication with the catering team so I could continue doing what I needed to for the event. The presentation set up was perfect with a super large screen the linen draped on the side was gorgeous. Highly recommend hosting your event at Story Hill Firehouse if you're looking for a smooth experience and stunning event.

The event venue in the historic firehouse is lovely for medium size gathers. The sound in the engine bay travels very well but is not echoing that one would think in a concert area. There are bridal areas for both the bride and the groom to get ready separately. Though parking is limited, the use of both area hotel shuttles and the story hill's trolley made guest transportation easy. Plus for those guests the should not drive after parting ensures they are back safely to their hotels. Every person the story hill' found or recommended to support our event was fantastic to include the decorations, DJ, wait staff, trolly driver, bar tenders and event manger. Thank you everyone for helping make our event memorable.

They have a carriage house on site that you can rent on airbnb which would certainly make for a charming stay with such a gorgeous environment laying mere feet away. They host an array of events, from weddings to wine tastings to classes (a gorgeous spot for a wedding with a smaller guest list--this isn't your 400 person wedding sorta spot). For anyone into horticulture or simply looking for ideas to improve your own garden space, you can't help but leave here inspired. An absolute gem in Milwaukee!

What a beautiful hidden gem. I never knew about this place. It's tucked into the Brewer's Hill…read moreneighborhood surrounded by older houses. The house itself is very architecturally interesting with high molded ceilings and all original fireplaces. It's decorated to look as close to the original as possible. We came as part of #Doorsopenmilwaukee. My daughter was volunteering here later this day. The gardens have an instant peace feeling about them. It's a touch of tranquil in the busy surrounding Downtown. I loved looking at all of the different fauna and flowers. I only wish they had the signs saying what type of plant it was. There are a series of paths, a few fountains, and some nice areas where you can relax. They rent out the gardens for parties and weddings. There was a separate carriage house that has bathrooms and facilities to get dressed for events. I am sorry I didn't know about this place sooner. It's really beautiful!

The site and immediate surroundings are very pleasant, the inside is appropriate for special occasions whether happy or sad. Nice, ample parking lot. Sound system in the chapel is good, I heard everything clearly sitting way in the back. Staff is good, unobtrusive.

We took advantage of them handling the food, appetizers, DJ, bartender, and ceremony all in house. The only thing we hired outside of loft and chapel was our photographer. There were 2 issues which left a bad taste in our mouth after our wedding night but could be easily avoided if we knew ahead of time. 1- We had asked and were told ahead of time it would be no issue to not serve shots at our wedding, and instead of taking time to make sure the bartender knew that we trusted that they would make it clear for us. We found out a little too late that they were serving shots all night to anyone who asked. I was told afterwards that it was written on the bartenders instruction sheet not to serve any shots. So if you're going to have any specific changes to your bar service take some time before people start drinking to talk to your bartender and set clear expectations. 2- we had "DJ Jay" as our supplied DJ from the venue. He contacted us just a few days before the wedding for our playlists and what kind of vibe we wanted for music. To say he didn't follow it would be an understatement. He was unable to read the room and continuously played music nobody was dancing to while not playing any of the songs we requested. On top of that he just gave off an overall unprofessional demeanor. I won't go into more details but given the opportunity I would have requested we either not have this DJ or I would have hired my own outside of the venue. Again if we knew ahead of time we could have avoided those 2 issues and the night would have been perfect. I would highly recommend booking a wedding here, the chapel is small but the service was very efficient. The venue itself is very nice, and it felt like we got more than our moneys worth for the overall aesthetic. Also I will again say Jeff is super easy to work with, he's very responsive, and he does a great job where he can.
