Facility and staff are great! It took approximately 11 months for me to finish treatment. I went through 4 or 5 temporary arches before my final set of arches. It took this amount of time to fine tune for the best fit. I appreciate that they did not try to rush me through to a final set before my gums were fully healed and they had a perfect impression for the finals! I was switched to a lady dentist they hired (same office) who was just wonderful! All the ladies that work there are very knowledgable . There were issues with the lab they use but that's not their fault. But there is still a problem with them getting back to you when you call. read more

I scheduled an appointment as a new patient in June. I got a call one week before my October appointment informing me that it was being cancelled as they were phasing out general dentistry. After many years being Bluegrass patient and they taking care of my teeth, Hygienist Robin told me that I "Do not qualify for regular cleanings. She convince me that my gums are so bad that if I do not pay out of pocket for this "magic periodontal maintenance" that somehow only she can provide and somehow is not covered by insurances, my teeth will start falling off. I paid and left. After 3 months I try to reschedule and told them that I called my insurances and I and everybody else qualify for fully paid twice a year cleaning and check-ups. Insurance of course did not have any claims from the dental office about any periodontal, pre-periodontal and any bleeding to death, falling out gums, teeth etc. Rachel starts screaming on the phone, that I do not know anything, they know the best and I have to do what they told me to and confirms in a rudest, snottiest voice that 'they will not do regular cleanings and even if they billed the insurance for a regular cleaning, it would be denied. I went to an actual dentist, you know the one with diploma and many years in college for second opinion. She did not see any problems and they happily advise me that they do normal 6 months cleanings. It would not be fair if I do not mention that Dr. Seth Chambers is very talented and everything he did is amazing. He is a magician in the dental world. However no-one should be yelled by receptionist and diagnosed by hygienist over some questionable recommendation and treatments. read more

Wonderful service! When I had a broken tooth they got my in next day to be seen. And then the actual extraction was nearly painless thanks to Dr. Abby and her kind hygienist. I've felt the need to revise my prior review. The good part is, that they do excellent dental work, they are very friendly, and the office is extremely nice. The bad part is that they rather aggressively recommend unnecessary and excessive treatments and mislead you about what your insurance will and won't cover. I went there almost 3 years ago because I needed a dentist and hadn't been to one in well over a decade (seeing incompetent small-town dentists as a kid can certainly give someone great anxiety about dental work). At my first visit they gave me some great dental care and come back the next day for some more work. I do that, and they get me taken care of. They then asked me to come back in another 3 months for a followup exam and cleaning. Insurance only pays for 2 visits a year for cleaning and examination, but they insisted I needed 4 exams and cleanings a year because I'd gone so long without dental care. I could understand maybe an extra check or two right after my first dental visit in so many years, so I didn't complain. Well, two and a half years later they kept insisting I come back in every 3 months. Insurance only pays for 2 visits a year, so that meant I was paying about $80 out-of-pocket twice a year for a routine cleaning on top of my insurance and everything else. . .while they tell me my teeth are fine and I've got no problems, but I still need to keep coming in more than my insurance will pay. Then, a few months ago, I went in for my quarterly cleaning. It was a new year, so my insurance should pay for my first 2 visits of the year. Yet, when I went to check out, they insisted I owed them $70 for the visit, and that my insurance wouldn't cover it. I knew they accepted my insurance, I knew they should cover it, but they demanded payment. That left a very bad taste in my mouth. What am I paying dental insurance for, if I have to pay out-of-pocket at every routine visit? Why are they insisting I come for cleanings and examinations 4 times a year more than 2 years after I started going there when they keep saying I'm in perfect dental health and doing fine? So, I went back to ask some questions. They said under my new insurance, I'd have to pay about $70 for every appointment. I wondered how that was possible, since my insurance had two cleanings a year fully covered. I also asked why, after almost 3 years, I still had to go in every 3 months for a checkup. They then told me that I wasn't receiving "cleanings", I was receiving "periodontal maintenance", which wasn't fully covered by my new insurance, that I was ineligible for regular cleanings and would now be coming in every 3 months for the rest of my life. They even tried to tell me that if they billed the insurance for a regular cleaning, it would be denied. So, instead of not paying anything out of pocket for 2 checkups/cleanings a year (like most people with most dental insurance do), they wanted me coming in 4 times a year, paying $70 a visit to do so, and saying I could never get those free cleanings covered by my insurance any more. I thought that was preposterous. I decided to get a second opinion, I booked an appointment with a different dentist, got a checkup and cleaning from them (with nothing out of pocket), and told them about my prior experience. They told me that coming in every 3 months was totally unnecessary, that based on their examination I didn't need the more expensive appointments and that I certainly could get regular cleanings again. Also, this whole experience is making my wife and myself re-evaluate the dental care she received there. My wife had a lot of various dental work done over the years. When she went to Bluegrass Dentistry for the first time, they told her that everything every prior dentists had done was bad and would have to be re-done by them (which wouldn't be covered by insurance, since dental records showed those teeth had already had those services performed). She spent several thousand dollars, at their strong insistence, having fillings replaced, root canals re-done, and other various dental work re-done there. They also tried to tell her she needed to come in every 3 months, but she just cancelled those appointments and stopped coming in because she began to suspect, long before I did, that they were exaggerating. In retrospect, we're coming to suspect they were just seeking some bill padding with her too. Ultimately, they provide good dental care, in a clean and friendly office. . .but their billing practices and push for work of questionable necessity made me seek out a new dentist. read more

I am not sure if I was scammed or my insurance sucks or if my mouth situation is really that bad. So I go in and it is a very nice atmosphere, almost like a hotel lobby. Sort of. Then one of the two receptionists gives me a pen and a clipboard to fill out paperwork. After that, a line of dental assistants or nurses (no idea) come and take like 5-6 people in at the same time, me included. O_O Funny thing was, as I watched, they seemed to have the same ethnic group nurses, as patients, going in. There was an African American guy, a Hispanic guy, and two White dudes. So what would you expect? The nurses were each of those. Then they "write out" everything going on in my mouth, take x-rays, etc. Apparently, I have a lot of hard and soft plaque, calculi etc. I am in danger of bone loss. etc. Then a dentist (they call dr.- think back to The Hangover when Bradley Cooper states "Stu, you're not a dr. Don't get fancy. He is a dentist.") comes in and tells you more information. While they tell you all this stuff that needs to be done, they do not tell you if all these procedures are out of pocket costs. I specifically had to mention that I just wanted a free cleaning. Since apparently there was so much gunk in my mouth, they said that their "treatment plans" would not be covered full under the insurance. So I wasted like an hour going there for the knowledge of my teeth. If I ever wanted to go back, I would have to pay $48 with my insurance to get their "treatment" of cleaning. I will give it to them that they are knowledgeable about what they tell you and show it to you on a t.v. screen. I learned a lot more than my prior dentists, however, I got nothing but an x-ray and knowledge, covered 100% by my insurance. WOW! read more

I have been going to Bluegrass Dentistry for about 2 years now and I am extremely satisfied with their service. The staff remembers me when I come in and is always ready to listen to my needs (I have had issues with grinding my teeth). I always feel taken care of. On top of all that, they've got a really interesting database of my dental progress since I started there and is tracking my dental health over time. It's great to see the attention they give each patient. I am very happy I started going here for my dental care and would recommend anyone to try them out. read more

I was hesitant to place a spacer on my child's teeth, and I should have trusted my motherly instinct. His gum line is sore and jaw looks crooked. Pretty sure the orthodontics this was supposed to prevent, have been worsened by the treatment. I was also belittled for questioning the treatment. Told that I must pay the lab bill if I didn't want the product. When I researched spacers, they were just tiny little things, and I did not think it was going to be a big deal. This metal piece goes across the entire roof of my child's mouth, and has caused a speech impediment from day one. Now that it is really giving him problems (gumline issues, occasional pain, and appears to be twisting his teeth in the wrong way) the dentist says they will not do anything but remove the retainer. So, I will have to travel out of the county to fix what they did. They insist that telling a single mother on medicaid, that she must pay for a product she didn't realize was going to be put in her child's mouth, is not berating a poor person. But, I felt extremely pressured by the dentist to do the procedure, even though after realizing what all it entails I was not comfortable with it. I really wish I had listened to my motherly instinct and refused the procedure. Of course, I didn't have the money for the lab bill, so I was pressured into doing something I was not comfortable with simply because I'm poor. My advice: find a dentist that isn't going to bully you for being too poor to refuse a service you are not comfortable with... other than this, I had a positive experience with the company. You might want to go somewhere else for spacers, because apparently their big fancy lab didn't get the fit correctly. Lesson learned: just say no to anything you aren't comfortable with regarding your children's teeth. If anyone else has problems, you can easily look up the grievance form and file a complaint against the dentist. Received a call from a collection company for $50 that I was unaware of nor notified of that was almost 2 years old. $50 is absolutely nothing to me when I am given money from my employer with a HSA to use for any medical/dental/vision. I called and was transferred to 3 different people before speaking to "Nelly" who stated that they were unable to retract a collection account-this is complete false and incorrect. I work for a large hospital/clinics in which this happens by error all the time. I said that and her response was to call me back today telling me that Seth and Morgan both agree that $50 is entirely too much of a balance to not be retracted. Oh, let's make note that I called on several occasions to discuss my benefit coverage on another service there and never received a call back from their coordinator. read more

I've never had a cavity in my life, I floss every night and brush twice a day. Im not a coffee drinker. I'm in my early twenties and look young so I think they were trying to take advantage of me. They told me I had twelve cavities and it was going to cost me $1,000 out of pocket even with my insurance. Since I'm not an idiot, I had my X-rays sent to my childhood dentist (I'm not from Lexington) and another dentist in Lexington. Sure enough, no cavities...just crazy. read more

Everything from their friendly staff to their approach to forward-thinking dentistry made me feel comfortable. This practice was opened around 2005 and was bought by a couple of dentists in 2013 who operate under the same name. Bluegrass Dentistry is now a great place to be treated. The hygienists are knowledgeable and gentle and go beyond their means to make you comfortable. The dentists coordinate easily understood plans for your dental health and are open to input from the patient. SO, SO much better now that the doctors' Chambers have taken over. read more

I must preface everything with this: My last dentist visit was several years ago, with the small-town dentist I grew up with. I went to Dr. Benton after hearing a rave from a co-worker. I have to say that I was impressed by the office and technology used there. I liked how the hygienist explained everything she was going to do and why. However, I left with the distinct feeling that I was just another set of teeth to be cleaned and drilled. After finding several cavities, Dr. Benton simply said, "Talk to Victoria about the treatment plan and the number of cavities I found." I will give the practice one more shot. Perhaps I came at a busy day, or I am idealizing my small-town dentistry experience. read more

I was taken back by Lauren, the hygienist, who was extremely knowledgeable and lead me through everything in detail. Dr Benton is wonderful.. she really takes the time with each of her patients to explain the pros and cons and doesn't just recommend expensive restoration procedures like some of the other cosmetic dentist in town. Her office is gorgeous and she is on the cutting edge of using new procedures that eliminate the pain and time spent in the chair. Recently, I have been experiencing significant Migraines and she suggested we look at a new treatment called Tru Denta that has shown a high success rate of getting rid of the problem. I had no clue that headaches could be related to my jaw and facial muscles. Going thru treatment now and already experiencing some relief. While I know everyone has their stories of best and worst in as it applies to dental care providers (and I could share a few here), I must say that Dr. Benton is among the top of my list (among instead of at the top, because she had this misfortune to let me know I had my first cavity). Not only does this practice have a great website, but the office is better than expected. My hygienist was Allison - she knows what she's doing, tells you what's going on and what she's getting ready to do, and is excellently efficient. Did I mention every exam chair has a television so you're not bored, and can catch up on what's happening in the world. Also, the whole office is clean and inviting. I also think it's great that they offer payment plans - and the wire on one of my retainers broke, instead of insisting I get a new one, Dr. Benton suggested I bring it in to see if it can be repaired - saving me money. The only downside, my teeth hurt from fixing the cavities. read more
