This is part of my traveling while Black series. Proper & son is Perfection. I walked over to the…read moremarket on a cold rainy Sunday morning. Goal buy all the Australian things making them cheaper with my USD money. Of course I had to stop and get food first. I've been staying near the market for 3 weeks and knew i had to come here. First, service was amazing. The nicest mxn found me a seat in the middle of the super busy restaurant. Then, 4 minutes later a young Womxn took my order. About 10 min later, this amazing food showed up. I ordered the fired eggs on the side to go with my hotcakes. This was the prefect balance of sweet and savory. I was a little nervous i would still be hungry because the hotcakes looked tiny. I was not disappointed at all. After a yummy oat milk coffee, i left feeling cozy, warm, and full. I sat outside which had some foot traffic but everyone was respectful and the wall heaters helped with the cool wet weather. Long story short, I would totally come back and try something new. The market vibes make it a wonderful weekend adventure and if you're looking for a sit down moment to appreciate Melbourne. Stop here.

I woke up Monday morning to an email asking if I'd like to "pop out to Happy Place this afternoon…read morefor a beetroot latte and a raw paleo cake." Who says no to such an offer? (Also: How positively Melbournian!) Upon arrival at this tiny shop on the outside of South Melbourne Market, I was immediately beguiled by the recherché menu. Gems from it include a shroom latte (medicinal mushroom powder, chicory root, dandelion, stevia, almond milk) and an 'I Love Oprah' smoothie featuring monga waratah, a shrub endemic to Australia that's purported to help one find inner strength. After a long peruse I ordered the Mexicano Cacao (raw cacao, cacao butter, chilli, black pepper extract, cayenne, coconut milk) for myself and a cup of the bone broth to share with my mates. The Mexicano Cacao was rich and nicely spicy. But the real winner was the wonderfully toothsome bone broth. I could easily drink a cup a day of this savory stuff. Happy Place isn't set up for hanging out, as there are no seats inside but it's a solid spot to grab a smoothie, hot drink or a light lunch (I loved the look of the seared ahi slices on offer in the salad case!).

I have two rather unexpected words for you: BONE BROTH. Who knew it could be so rich, filling and…read moredelicious? If you're feeling a bit bloated I highly recommend grabbing a cup of their $6 broth for lunch. You won't regret it. But Happy Place, owned by nutritionist Lola Berry and Salvatore of St Ali fame, is much more than just a good broth. Here you will find smoothies with Aboriginal leaves that can instil various feelings within you (think strength, wisdom, kindness), salads and proteins galore and lattes of all colours of the rainbow. I went for a turmeric latte, which warmed me up on a freezing June day, while my pals went for the Mexican Cacao, which was truly a standout (obviously I took a sip and then hogged it). It tasted a lot like a spicy hot chocolate. Absolute perfection in winter. While I didn't indulge, there were a variety of salads available for you to grab and go. Because Happy Place are good to Vegan folk, you add your protein separately - there are little cups of chicken, salmon and tofu available to add. While this is pretty much a takeaway place only (there are only a few built in bench seats available), it shouldn't stop you from popping by and grabbing a footpath bench to nosh down on your healthful goodies before you head into the market.

When only having one meal out per week because you are in money saving mode after the holiday…read moreseason, the meal better be worth it. Brunch rarely ever disappoints and when it's as good as what you are served at giddiup then your day is made. Located around the corner from Coventry street is this small cafe with both outdoor and indoor seating. As soon as I arrived on a Sunday, I was immediately seated. No queues here. The menu has a range of breakfast options with interesting items like chai toast, bread butter pudding with mascarpone, smoked trout rillette and stuffed mushrooms with gruyere and pans-something cheese. There were a few people waiting for takeaway coffees and the cafe offers various coffee blends. I went immediately for the mushroom dish whereas my friend grabbed the pudding. The salads on the menu also looked delectable but alas they are only offered mon to Fri. My massive brunch dish included two large field mushrooms stuffed with cheese and garnished with rosemary. Omg I could smell it from faraway and each bite into the mushroom was creamy and succulent. The sourdough toast had seeds on it and was delicately buttered and just enough. I also got two poached eggs and was full halfway through my meal but it was so good. The bread butter pudding sorts of tastes like a baklava with its crispy yet soft layers and is balanced by the creamy mascarpone. Definitely a nice sweet indulgence and quite filling. The coffees came in babycino cups and were awfully astringent. Not to my liking but nice and creamy and extra hot. Service is quick, efficient and friendly. Seating is crate style, small stools - non posture friendly and wouldn't recommend this place for groups.

This seems to be an unintentional trademark of mine; reviewing hot spots months after the fact. But I do get onto all the cool places eventually. To start, I ordered the double mac- Pretty ace. It's a small little space at Giddy, so it hold seats a few. Hence, it's good to snare a seat/table if you can. This can prove a challenge. Low key menu offerings, but lots of good things; breakfast, little snacks and small pastries. BLT Brioche bun- Crispy Bacon!!! Awesome, tiny, but good. Gruyere and mushroom toastie; it's simply heaven. Pizza type dough, folded and grilled w/ button mushrooms simple, clean and rich flavours. Indulgence! The focus here is on quality coffee; it's good to see this as a burgeoning trademark of many new and emerging caffeine dealerships. Giddy is a small little space removed from Sth Melb Market, and the hustle and bustle of Chez Dre. Enter through Francis street. Wow! the day i come to review, a review is printed in the weekly review Blimming brilliant.
