This bridge area is picturesque and beautiful. It's worth a visit with all it has to offer. There's plenty of beauty to take in and lots of sightseeing opportunities are packed along the waterfront here. Plan to spend a fair amount of time visiting the waterfront with it's breathtaking views, the Thomas Edison Depot Museum, the Fort Gratiot Lighthouse and all of the nice monuments it has to offer. There are plenty of benches to sit along the water or you can sit in your car on a chilly day and still take in the beauty with scenic views of Canada across the St. Clair River. Pack a picnic lunch and people watch and wait for the next freighter to pass along the waterway. It's a quick day trip for the entire family to enjoy so take in all that this area of Pure Michigan has to offer. read more

going into the states was a bit of a journey as we were travelling in a snow storm, traffic was backed up half way up the bridge, finally getting down to the part where we can see the situation, or what lane to go into? only three booths were open, a bit odd considering, we were travelling during the December holiday time, and close to 10am. within moments another 3 booths opened up and the wait time wasn't terrible from that point. one of the people in our vehicle was asked for additional I.D. which was a new request for me personally, but not uncommon, with no hiccups we were in America and on our way! a few helpful hints for efficiency. play no music have everyone awake and alert spoke loud and clearly passport signed make sure your answers are to the point but making sure to answer the question have some extra I.D. on your person (just in case) the bridge is an awesome one to cross with an absolutely Majestic view from either end. read more

This is the American side of the border crossing between Port Huron, MI and Port Edward-Sarnia, ON. If you have travel plans involving a border crossing between southeast Michigan and southwest Ontario, this is most often the best choice, both in terms of access, border crossing times and subsequent tolls. While toll rates have jumped considerably at many border crossings between the U.S. and Canada, I was pleasantly surprised when MDoT was able to hold the line on increases so far this year. Speaking of tolls, the toll-takers are always pleasant and cheerful. The staff at the bridge are most helpful and efficient when it comes to keeping a healthy flow of traffic at the border. The left lane of the U.S. bound span requires regular maintenance due to heavy truck traffic, and MDoT does a fairly decent job of performing the required repairs. Winter travel remains generally unimpeded, as the maintenance crews on both sides of the border perform exceptional snow and ice clearing services. Recent changes in roadways introduced traffic shifts in both directions leading toward and away from the bridge. These changes have caused headaches for all involved, but a much improved traffic flow has resulted in the immediate surrounding area. read more

Crossed over the bridge to get to Canada for a visit to Niagara Falls, and the border crossing was absolutely horrendous. My boyfriend and I answered all the questions honestly and politely and the man running our station acted as if he wanted us to have an issue immediately. He seemed angry and annoyed. We were sent into the immigration office, we told him about why we were sent in (we "didn't have enough money to stay in Canada" was the reason by the way) and the officer looked like a deer in headlights and let us go immediately. We wasted an hour waiting to even talk to an officer inside, might I add. Total unnecessary drama that could have simply been avoided if the initial Canadian immigration officers had a bit of a better attitude. On the way back into America, we were "randomly selected" to have our car X-Ray'd. absurd! We're two college students that we're trying to enjoy a weekend away and this but a complete damper on our trip. Won't be visiting Canada again anytime soon. read more

On our return home to MI, we presented our passports and proof of vaccination cards to the US agent at the Blue Water Bridge. He handed back our vaccination cards and said, " I don't need this nonsense." We found his comments and his attitude offensive. read more

Gateway to Canada, the Blue Water Bridge is architecturally appealing and efficient. We've driven through this bridge countless times and never really had a huge issue in wait times. During holiday peak hours (around 11am-1pm), things get a little backed up, but nothing horrific. Fortunately during those times, there are multiple booths open to pay your toll. As of December 2013, the toll is $3, and fluctuates based on the economy. I have paid $3.25 before, and $3.50 on the way back. MDOT has done a good job keeping these fees from creeping up too much. Booth attendants are always pleasant and friendly, and for those afraid of face time, you can opt to go to the exact change booth. Keep in mind that it has to be exact change, or you will not be able to get through. We've seen too many times when people have attempted getting through, to only realize they have to reverse. Be considerate to the other drivers, and look before you proceed! :) Though most of the time we just drive across the bridge, during the spring, summer, and fall seasons, the bridge itself is lovely as it overlooks the lake and the nearby Thomas Edison Inn is nice to see. The walk way that flanks the lake is wonderful to walk on when the sun is out. As you walk, look up and you'll see the wonderful architecture of this bridge. Whether you actually use the bridge, it's worth paying a visit just to see. :) read more

We were visiting some friends in Lansing, MI so we took this bridge to get to Michigan. As international border crossings go, it was pretty smooth into the US and not much of an interrogation. My one complaint is that the exit out of the customs area is very confusing, with a series of barriers that make it completely unclear that that is the way to go. Thankfully, we crossed at night, so there was no traffic for me to snarl up in my confusion on where to go. read more

Have always enjoyed crossing these pair of bridges either to or from the state of Michigan. There are some awesome views to be had as you look up into Lake Huron and downstream into the Detroit River. The bridge spans have been well Maintained and taken care of over the years. The staff and management on both sides of the bridges have always been friendly, helpful and respectful. They have not been crude, unfriendly and disrespectful at all By The Way. As the other reviewer said, the toll has increased over time but is currently holding at $3 each way. Now that the plaza changes are in place, the truck traffic doesn't really impede car traffic anymore. It's tremendous to see. read more

Beware!! Overcharging of toll on Canadian side with automated lanes Blue Water Bridge on Canadian side has installed machines that can take currency, coins or credit card. Used a $10 US bill in the machine and the machine returned $7.50 Canadian back. The current exchange rate is $1US = $1.32 Canadian so I should have gotten back $9 Canadian after a $4 Canadian toll. Use your credit cards on the automatic lanes. read more

Border hell, waited over 2 hours to pay for the privilege of crossing this bridge. Evidently most people using this crossing are illiterate because many of the people driving cars drove in the truck only lane past the long line of us who waited our turn in the cars and RVs line only to cut in front at the last minute making our wait even longer. I longed for someone to ticket them, charge them the 18 wheeler toll, throw eggs on their windshields... You get the picture. Avoid at all costs or don't say you haven't been warned. read more
