This place gave strict instructions about me participating in their PT & OT programs as required or I'd be discharged. Frightened by their demands, I tried with all my strength to participate. Their CNAs were not the best and their therapists were not much better. I could barely walk, much less stand up. I was discharged on January 1st, as Blue Cross Blue Shield discontinued my coverage effective December 31st. I had nowhere to go. I was brought home to recover with oxygen, walker and wheelchair. It took 10 months to gain strength and be able to function on my own. During this period my husband had to be placed in a facility for dementia, as I was not able to care for him. The whole experience was quite unpleasant. The one specific incident I will share about my stay at Cypress Pointe was the morning I had had a bowel movement. I called for a CNA to come change my diaper. Upon entering my room she said, "What do you need?" in a short and bothered tone of voice. I explained the situation to which she replied, "Oh, no! My shift is about over, and my husband is waiting in the car for me. I'll have to get someone else to come." She left and came back in about 10 minuets stating that she wasn't able to find another nurse to come. Being quite unhappy, she began cleaning me up. In the 10 minutes that she was gone looking for another nurse to handle the issue, she could have already done the job herself. This was just one of other incidents I experienced at this facility.

However, that impression quickly changed once we arrived home with my mother. Communication from the nurses, aides, and company as a whole was inconsistent. We were told oxygen would be provided shortly, yet it did not arrive until two days later, and only after we had to follow up. A regular schedule for visits was never established, and although they sent help when we called, we had to make the call each time. I found myself constantly reaching out with questions. While the RN assigned to us was wonderful, she was only available one day each week. During the less than two-week span we worked with this hospice, the LVN who visited appeared unprepared and uninformed. I had to show her how to drain my mother's ventilating drainage bag, along with other essential tasks. My mother was supposed to receive anti-anxiety medication on her first day in hospice care, but despite repeated requests and ultimately the threat of changing providers, the medication wasn't delivered until five days later. When my mother began showing signs of the active phase of dying, I had to call to ask what the plan was for support. The responses I received were vague and unhelpful. I asked if someone could assess her or if we were simply supposed to call once she passed, as well as how arrangements with the funeral home should be handled. Brittany, a representative, responded, "Oh, no one got the funeral information from you? That should have happened on day one." The entire experience felt unstructured and chaotic. The only positive aspect of this experience was the RN who came when my mother was within eight hours of passing. He was compassionate and attentive through the night, staying with us until she passed. However, after he left, we waited alone for the funeral home to arrive. Now, ten days after her passing, the hospice company has yet to reach out with any words of condolence--no email, phone call, or text. As an RN with over 30 years in healthcare, I would never treat a family going through hospice in this way. I strongly encourage families to conduct thorough research before choosing a hospice provider to ensure their loved ones receive the compassionate and structured care they deserve.

The facility was just winging it on what and how much to give. There was no orders for any medications, the fall mat, or the illegal restraint that was being used on my father. When I drove 8 hours to check on him I immediately switched his hospice and they got orders to do an emergency transfer! My father had fallen out of bed 4 times the morning before the move. The facility claims it was an on going issue that hospice did not accommodate for. Mt father was being restrained to his wheelchair by a gate belt and left in a back room by himself. No water, no supervision, and no one to speak up for him. Varco should have stepped up and advocated for him!! When i called and left messages for a return call from the DON I was left with no call back. They failed my father and if they can treat him that way they will treat your loved one the same. They have tried to claim in another review that I have the wrong company. I absolutely do not!

Dr. Michael Abdelsayed, DO and all of the wonderful staff at Sugar Land Rehab Hospital did an amazing job getting my dad back on his feet and in a position to return home for a second time. The nursing care is far better here, the staff more professional, and the physical therapy program ran by "Dr. Mike" is amazing. Not to mention the great food and the cook that was willing to acomodate my dad being the picky eater he is. My dad needed all of it. My dad was originally discharged to another rehab facility nearby that used to be pretty good but they went down hill. He was getting crappy care and ended up back in the hospital. The second time around he went to Sugar Land Rehab Hospital instead and now he is back home and doing well. Nothing but praise for this place.
