LADY ANGLERS. Let me tell you there is no better boat around. I found this boat because it came up in my Facebook feed. Repeatedly. So I took it as a sign that I needed to book. As soon as I called Captain Todd Magaline not only took my reservation, but once he found out I was fishing solo he took a couple extra minutes to get to know me and my experience level (which was zero). From the initial conversation we discovered we are both members of the California Waterfowl Association ( shout out to CWA! ) and immediately bonded. As a female angler i don't have many lady friends that are into fishing. Being one of the guys is normal. This was a non creepy very fun and respectful environment. I felt safe and welcome. The day of the trip. I signed in and in his captains notebook I saw my name with some notes! I met the deck hands Gabe and Dom- exceptional young men. My rod was set up outside the captains cabin in case I ran into trouble. The day was amazing! Glassy water, wildlife all over the place, and friendly people aboard. There was one other female aboard and we bonded quickly too! Did I find my sea legs ??? Nope. Chummed the water for the last 4 hrs of the trip. Was it awful? Absolutely. Part of the experience? For sure. Did I catch my fish? Yes. Yes I did. Tips: * Get your fishing license BEFORE hand * Rod & 2.5lbs weights are available for rental ($35 -ish could go up) * You will need additional weights plan on buying more * Tip. Your. Deck. Hands. These young men are amazing and will be your besties for the duration of the trip * Bring CASH. After you leave the dock credit cards are a no go. Keep Captain happy and bring cash * If you catch you'll need a cooler and some ice. I had a 16 quart cooler it wasn't big enough. Fished with Capt. Todd with two awesome deck hands Alex and Spencer on August 3, 2022. I haven't fished on a party boat in maybe 20 years, because I owned my own boat. Sold my boat and retired to Mexico. Come back every summer to visit family and really miss fishing for salmon outside the Golden Gate. The experience was great, the Capt and crew worked extremely hard to get us on fish. Mate Spencer did not miss one fish at the net and I can tell you that is a major accomplishment. We fished long and hard and ended up with limits for the boat. Very enjoyable day and will plan a couple more trips before heading South. I cannot recommend this crew enough!!! This was my first time fishing and it was absolutely incredible. I booked the charter for my boyfriend's birthday and we both had the BEST TIME EVER! The entire crew was so awesome. They worked their butts off to make sure every group on board caught at least one fish. Many people reached their limit of 2 salmon per person! If you've never been fishing, remember, it's called FISHING not CATCHING :) I think some of these reviews are just people upset they didn't catch anything... But that certainly wasn't for lack of the crew trying. I would advise that first time fishers beware of seasickness... don't drink the night before, eat a well-balanced meal, and take dramamine, and you will have a lovely time. We distributed my mother in laws ashes this past Saturday. I coordinated this trip with Todd last March and everything was perfect. We communicated several times during this period confirming the date and paperwork requirements, providing a head count. Todd responded to my inquires every time. Brian the boat captain was professional, and his deck hand (his father) were very personable and nice on this solemn trip outside the Golden Gate. It was perfect weather and we took our time. They did not rush us while we did the distribution and very patient, letting us inform them we should be heading. back. I told the Brian and his father really appreciated this service. I shared with him that when I pass, I too will be distributed the same manner. In fact we distributed my wife's ashes the same way and location in 2015. Told Brian that my family and executor of my Trust will be contact him as I have his number to call. He thanked me and blurted out, "hope they won't be contacting me any time soon!" This boat is for people who want to Go out for a day of fishing fun with a captain and a deckhand that are very knowledgeable. Captain Todd was Great, and his deckhand Spencer was very helpful and did a great job making people feel comfortable. if it was their first time, he helps bait, guide you in any questions you have and even help guide you in how to bring in your fish when you have one on the line. Our crew which was 8 people all got our limits of beautiful 15+ pound salmon. He cleaned our fish for no extra charge so we didn't have to do the dirty work. We maybe didn't have the typical experience with Blue Runner since we were spreading ashes and not fishing. I'm not sure how often they do that sort of thing but it was very nice. I'm extremely prone to motion sickness so I was super nervous but the captain promised this short trip to the Golden Gate Bridge wouldn't be a problem and he was right. We are a sailing vessle in the Bay Area, this boat almost hit us just past the golden gate. The helmsman was not paying attention; we had to quickly swerve away within 30ft of a collision. The captain then came outside and flipped us off as if it was our fault instead of taking accountability for his ineptitude. Do not trust this company. It was my first time out on the ocean fishing for salmon so I was a bit inexperienced but Captain Todd and Tommy made the whole day very comfortable. I have been on the Blue Runner twice and think they do a great job. Tony (deck hand) has an abundance of energy and is constantly in motion helping anglers and checking bait. The Captain (Todd) was in a good mood and waited for an angler who was late to the dock. I am sure this made some folks unhappy as they were there on time and wanted to fish but for the late angler's party, it was very nice. We were out until 4 PM so we had a full day of fishing. We had a good day and will book again this week. One thing that impresses me is the Blue Runner donates trips to charity auctions....this is good marketing (it got me there) and it shows they support the local community. read more

This was my second year going out with these guys. I very much appreciated their professional attitude and determination for creating the perfect conditions to catch salmon. Not over crowded like many of the other boats I've been on before. Some boats we were fishing next to were ridiculously over crowded. The equipment was great and they really cared for our success. Although we didn't limit out like we did last year, it was still a great time and we still had fish to take home. This is a fishing boat, not a booze cruise. When a fish is on the line, they take it very seriously to get the fish in the boat. That's what I'm paying for. I completely agree with the reviews below. Todd and Tony were very, very rude to us. Although we were doing our best to follow their instructions, we were personally yelled at and cursed at on multiple occasions. I don't think I have ever been treated so rudely by someone whom I was paying (a lot) for a service. Further, we went out on a rather slow fishing day, and all of the fish of the morning were caught by one couple at the back of the boat (supposedly one of the better spots). But, despite the fact that those two quickly fished out their licenses and no one else had caught anything, the deckhand refused to ask them to switch places because that might interfere with the boat's luck (??). Instead, Tony just distributed their extra fish at the end of the day to all those who hadn't caught any -- which was most of the group. read more

I chartered the boat for me and my friends on Sat the 24th, so blocked it off from being with other strangers, so my opinion is based on what could be expected in that scenario. Heading out on a boat early with a group of friends, getting out in the open and then catching a lot of fish was great, actually ended up being one of the better days of the season fishing wise (so we were told, 16 fish for 12 people) With that said, we are not die hard fisherman and with our success rate, we wanted to scale back the aggressiveness of our fishing to allow us to enjoy each others company some more. I tell you that to tell you this: Cpt Todd became very authoritative, not listening to the requests of people paying thousands of dollars to be out there for the day. There seemed to be an ulterior motive in the works, or a complete disregard for our wishes. So....We found the blue runner using.....you guessed it, YELP! The reviews were spot on. Captain Todd and Deckhand Tony were a class act! The boat was very roomy! Coffee provided with a microwave and oven. The restroom is surprisingly roomy. Most Importantly he put us on the fish! Yesterdays trip was not my first time on this adventurous fishing boat and definitely won't be my last! Always a blast of fun on this boat. Captain knows where to go to find the fish every time we go out. Crew members, Spencer and Dominic, always helpful for those of us who are inexperienced individuals in the world of ocean fishing. I recommend Blue Runner Sportfishing to everyone! If you want to go out on a beautiful, comfortable, and successful boat, choose Captain Todd's. We went out on a "slow" day and over 7 Kings were landed. We did not see many other boats catching fish. Captain Todd knows where the fish are, knows how to find good water, and gets his passengers into fish. The boat is flawless--you can hang out inside, out back, or on the bow. It is big and sturdy enough to handle choppy conditions and quick enough to check different spots during the day. Captain Todd and his crew were GREAT. I brought my 9 and 7 year old and the crew were absolutely great. They helped my kids constantly which freed me up do do my own fishing. The reviews below mention yelling and rudeness. What I experienced was not rudeness, but professionals doing their best to land monster salmon without tangling lines or losing the fish. My kids loved Tony, the deck hand. He is great with kids. Heck, he's great with everybody. These guys know what they are doing for sure. The boat limited out and we all had a great time. Next time we go out, it will definitely be on the Blue Runner. I'm curious how many people had a good experience but have not posted on here. I was on the Blue Runner on 7/29 (the same day as Chad F.) and didn't observe any of the problems that complained about. Todd and his deck hands, as always, were fantastic that day. The Blue Runner is one of the nicest, most clean charter boats that one can go fishing on (I have been on other boats on the fleet). It is comfortable, has a nice bathroom, and the crew works hard to make sure that clients are comfortable and have a great trip every time. Tony, the deck boss, is fun to be around and is great around adults and children. My first time on the Blue Runner I had my father with me who is a little unsteady on his feet (in retrospect a salmon boat off the coast was probably not the best place to have my dad), when my dad had a fish on, Tony supported him and made sure to help him get his fish in. He was great and ecstatic when Dad got his fish in. I always have fun on the Blue Runner and make sure to book with them as I feel safe with the crew and know that I will be taken care of by Todd, Tony and the other deck hands. read more

Captain Todd and crew were extremely rude to all on board, yelling at paying guests while fishing, as if we were all idiots. I'm not an avid fisherman, but I am in the service business and will say with GREAT confidence....Captain Todd lacks hospitality and tact and carries a total chip on his shoulder, as if he was inconvenienced to take all 14 passengers out fishing, although happy to take our $135 per person. One star is for the boat itself. The other star is for the weather. Rude short tempered deck boss and deck hand. I am not a Marine and do not pay top dollar for a forced military experience. They had a high priority to catch fish but little focus on customer experience. It was like I was working as a paid greenhorn on a commercial boat. Fun was not a priority. There was a super tense atmosphere on staff that flows down from the captain. I spent most of the day trying to stay out of the deck hands way and not get "In trouble'" for how I fished. They were jerks. Period. After getting hit in the face and head by deck boss two times with fish and net handle I had to be sure and stay clear of him. He never said a word. To him I was just in the way. Boat familiars and friends got the honey treatment. They caught fish and stayed in prime spots. The rest of us had to make do, but no changing. Look at the rest of the reviews and see the trend that continues with the captains inability to respond to the results of his customers, I know that consumers don't lie by the batch. My experience was the same. Obviously over the years this is just how Todd is gonna run his boat. I think he will always be like this. If you know these guys and are lucky your day may be good. If not there are many other choices and they all fish the same spots and fish very similarly. I have seen captains and deck hands like this before and I avoid them. read more

Had a great experience with the Blue Runner and crew today. Our family came together to scatter the ashes of our departed 91 year old uncle in the ocean beyond the Golden Gate Bridge. The twelve of us were unaccustomed to scattering ashes and creating a sensitive ceremony on our own. The crew of two on the Blue Runner were there to help at every turn. They were sensitive to offer help in a way that felt natural and didn't impose on our family. They helped us with the container of ashes, carefully oriented the boat so we could create a base of rose petals, then maneuvered the boat so we could spread the ashes among the petals. We never felt hurried and the crew made themselves inconspicuous when we were sharing our feelings with our family members. I would recommend them highly! read more

I have never seen Captain Todd or his crew be rude to anyone. They have gone out of their way to be helpful to everyone on the boat regardless of their fishing experience. I could not have had a better first fishing experience. I have been on many chartered boats in the SF bay and Captain Todd's Blue Runner is one of the most well-kept and clean. I highly recommend Blue Runner Sportfishing. We had such a wonderful experience salmon fishing with them in late Sept. 2015. My husband, teenage son and I are NOT experienced fishermen -- in fact we had no idea what we were doing, but Captain Todd assured me that his deck hands would help us out. (I admit to being a bit concerned as I had read inconsistent reviews.) Both Tony and Tommy (our deckhands) were soooooo helpful and nice to us. I had mentioned to them prior to leaving the pier that we were inexperienced and we would likely need some help. They assured us that they would help us whenever they could...and they did. All three of us got our lines tangled early on (our faults), but Tony and Tommy just helped us out, and then told us how to avoid the problem in the future. It was a slow day (fish wise) for the boat, but my son still managed to catch one salmon ...I am sure largely due to the extra attention we were getting from Tony and Tommy, and the fact that Captain Todd tried so hard to get us to places where the fish were biting. Upon observation, the only time I saw Tony or Tommy frustrated is when people weren't manning their poles or were not following instructions. However, I never saw any inappropriate behavior or heard any inappropriate comments at all from either of them nor from the Captain. It seemed to me that they were just trying to make sure that people followed the process so that EVERYONE would have a good and safe experience. We hope to be joining them again this summer!
