Originally, I wanted to book A Tailor's Lodging, intrigued by the Abingdon tourist site's description of the B&B. However, I learned that it was already booked to capacity. The proprietor recommended his sister's business, Creeper's End instead, and that's how we ended up at this colonial style unit. Creeper's isn't quite a B&B because there's no second B. You get the bed but not the breakfast. However, they do offer complimentary snacks and beverages (Cheez-its, pretzels, Coke, etc.). Despite not offering the usual breakfast meal associated with a B&B, Creeper's End left absolutely nothing to be desired. I was so delighted by the spotless, amazingly clean room that we ended up getting. Creeper's End may be one of the cleanest places I've ever stayed at in all my years of traveling. The bathroom was so spic and span I almost hesitated to use it. The owner supposedly went to Williamsburg to bring back some of that colonial touch to her lodging, and she did a great job of it. The various units surrounding a lovely courtyard were built to resemble colonial-era housing. The interiors are beautifully decorated with colonial-inspired furnishings and furniture, though not so thematic that it seemed outdated, stiff, or kitschy. I loved details like the luxurious plush bath towels, definitely high-quality, and the nice Samsung flatscreen installed smack in the middle of the room. The freshness of the linens are also a definitely plus. They also have wi-fi, which had a decent speed for most of our stay. The service is also really prompt and professional. The owners are especially trusting, not requiring a deposit and usually leaving the rooms unlocked for guests! Cash or check is preferred, though... As mentioned in the last review posted, one drawback of staying here is that it's pretty close to the train tracks and you can hear the train like it's sneaking up behind you. Thankfully, the train seemed largely inactive at night...or maybe we're just sound sleepers. In either case, this is definitely something to consider if you want to stay here. However, this is honestly my only complaint, and I don't know whether the proprietor could have purchased a similar area away from the train tracks to do what she wanted (a colonial cluster of houses facing an interior courtyard). Before I forget, Creeper's End is at the end of the Creeper's End Trail (30 miles), a favorite of hikers and bikers, hence the name. If you're the outdoorsy type, I think this may be your best option in the area. Abingdon as a whole is one of the most pleasant cities I visited during my vacation to Southwest Virginia, so if you plan on visiting the Tri-Cities, this might also be a great option.

We managed to snag the top loft around the Holiday season. To top it off, this place is pet-friendly, no questions asked and no pet deposit. This is an incredible perk for families traveling with their fur babies. Because they recognized that pets are family too, we took extra care to clean up after our pets on the property when they did their business outdoors. Not sure if they care about dog poop on the land, but may we suggest a small station for doggie poop bags? Also something to consider, we frequently saw loose dogs from the surrounding area running on the property and road, so we recommend being aware of this if your pet doesn't do well around loose dogs. Our cabin was approximately 600 square feet, had a gas fireplace (awesome!!!!!!), and we were right on the edge of the Watauga River. The land surrounding the cabin is lovely and the sound of the rushing river water is absolutely refreshing. The cabin comes with everything you would need for your stay: extra towels and bedding, extra spices, condiments, and coffee, a nice laundry facility on the ground floor, firewood for the camp fire outside, and an awesome grill and outdoor facility with plenty of seating on the river's edge. Our dogs loved romping in the lake. The only thing that the cabin didn't have was shampoo/conditioner, but there was plenty of soap in the bathroom and kitchen. The water heater worked great, so there was no issue with hot showers or hot water in the kitchen sink. Once you get the fireplace roaring, it's wonderful being able to settle in with a hot mug of coffee, free fast wifi, and satellite TV. Everything during our stay was perfect. We would definitely book this cabin again in the future for the holidays.

First, the pictures available online don't do justice to the beauty of the location. The cabin sits just above a burbling stream. It lies at the end of a mile-long gravel road with plenty of up-and-down, blind corners, and two gates. This feels like a truly secluded spot. It is visible from the road, which is just on the other side and above the stream. But, as we experienced in late July, the dense foliage obscures the cabin. The cabin itself is both well-equipped and rustic. The kitchen has most utensils and cooking equipment, including a rice cooker, electric skillet, toaster oven, microwave, etc. everything was older but clean and functional. There is a single full bathroom with shower and a half bath upstairs. A washer-dryer set is very helpful. Internet access is a plus because cell service is spotty or nonexistent. For fellow jigsaw puzzlers, the kitchen table is perfect for a 1000 or 1,500 piece challenge. The deck is absolutely lovely. Given the location, the sun didn't hit the cabin until mid-morning, and never fell under the roofed portion of the deck. We were able to sit outside from early morning to evening in relative comfort. We brought citronella candles, which kept the bugs away - but those weren't bad at all. The owners ask that you removed the trash and clean up upon leaving - a usual request. They also ask for guests to wash and dry the sheets and sweep/mop upon leaving - a less common ask. The bedding was adequate. Older pillows and a firm, creaky master bed could be updated. This is not a touristy area. Those lie north and east of here. We brought all of our own food. If you plan to eat out, or shop out regularly, you will need to drive some distance/time. Within an hour's drive - and you will need to travel to take in the area and get supplies - are several wonderful spots. Be sure to hike Stone Mountain State Park. What a beautiful, well-maintained park! Bring your bikes and complete the 20-mile round trip rail-trail between Todd and Freeport. Gorgeous, easy ride along the New Fork River. Get baked goods at the Todd Mercantile store. Boone has some shopping and organic groceries, but is a solid two-hour round trip. Looking for adventure. Drive north on the main road, take the gravel road (left) at the fork, and follow the mountain road about 5 miles to the Blue Ridge Parkway. One of us enjoyed that very much; the other less so given the hairpin turns and steep drops. We definitely recommend Blue River Cabin.

The cabin is spacious, spotlessly clean, and supplied with everything you could possibly need for a relaxing, totally peaceful getaway. There's going to be slopes everywhere. To think this person teaches (children or college students or whom ever) astounds me. They didn't have enough sense to research the area but wants to moan and complain. Furthermore what teacher has only ONE WEEK vacation time? Give me a break! To see a no trespassing sign and that was the "last straw"...get over yourself. You're just miserable and want to take it out on others. It's because of the beauty, people, and culture of this area that I am moving from Maryland down here ASAP!

No Stars! We drove 6 hours and left the cabin after one hour on the property. I am a teacher with…read moreone vacation so walking away from prepaid 5 day rental was a hard decision. The driveway is 45 degrees up with loose gravel and took our CRV four attempts to reach the top. The pictures on the website do not show the slope. There are no screens on any windows so forget fresh air. The creek was not at the doorstep as advertised but down the treacherous driveway and across the road. Then I noticed active surveillance cameras everywhere recording our movements. As a last attempt to find something we enjoyed, we turned left out of the driveway to see the falls. A sign stating "If you can read this you are in my gun sights" was the last straw. When I contacted the owner, he stated he never advertised screens and said I was confused, malicious and accusatory. He would report me as a 'bad renter'. I thought he would offer half of my money back. I then realized several positive reviews were written in same writing style. Hopefully I will at least get the cleaning fee back since we never touched anything. We then drove 6 hours home.

The cottages are situated on 3 acres in town, with the trail in the front yard and the river in the backyard.
