So, we arrive after 9pm and Barbara meets us as if it were a mid afternoon check in! Happy to see…read moreus , full tour of the facilities, helpful tips...you get it - the quintessential perfect host!! The room is ridiculously clean, modern and cozy. The train was a non-issue. Short (5 mins) walk to this charming town's unique biz district full of local artisans and friendly merchants. Been all over the world, Creepers End & the town of Abingdon are small town USA at her best! Highly recommend Creepers End & will be back next fall!

The website has wonderful pictures of cottages and looks super inviting. I'm sure the hosts are great, but their reservation system sucks. Their website does not contain an online reservation form--only a standard contact us form and phone number. So not trusting online forms, I called to make my reservation. I spoke a very lovely woman for nearly 30 minutes who took down my name, phone number and email (which she had from the voice message I'd previously left) told me all about the property and about the town, helped me select a rooms for our group, and even promised to send me more information about the property and the town via email later on. She explained that the rooms were reserved for us and was looking forward to welcoming us "all the way from Chicago" in September. That was in January. Now, it's September and there's absolutely no record of our reservation. Lost. Gone. Ghosted. Apparently, phoned-in reservations don't count because when I inquired about our lost reservation citing this 30 minute phone call we had back in January, she responded with the following: "We get so many phone inquiries that we use the online contact form as a back up so we do not overbook. When those aren't filled out we assume that they have found another place or that their plans have changed. After the form is filled out we send a confirmation and we try to touch base closer to time. I am so sorry that we do not have your reservation." Uh. Wait, what? I was suppose to go back online and fill out a form AFTER I talked to a human to make my reservation? Oh, boy...

Overall, a terrific getaway. We spent a week enjoying the charms of the cabin and the area. Here…read moreare a few things we learned from our visit. First, the pictures available online don't do justice to the beauty of the location. The cabin sits just above a burbling stream. It lies at the end of a mile-long gravel road with plenty of up-and-down, blind corners, and two gates. This feels like a truly secluded spot. It is visible from the road, which is just on the other side and above the stream. But, as we experienced in late July, the dense foliage obscures the cabin. The cabin itself is both well-equipped and rustic. The kitchen has most utensils and cooking equipment, including a rice cooker, electric skillet, toaster oven, microwave, etc. everything was older but clean and functional. There is a single full bathroom with shower and a half bath upstairs. A washer-dryer set is very helpful. Internet access is a plus because cell service is spotty or nonexistent. For fellow jigsaw puzzlers, the kitchen table is perfect for a 1000 or 1,500 piece challenge. The deck is absolutely lovely. Given the location, the sun didn't hit the cabin until mid-morning, and never fell under the roofed portion of the deck. We were able to sit outside from early morning to evening in relative comfort. We brought citronella candles, which kept the bugs away - but those weren't bad at all. The owners ask that you removed the trash and clean up upon leaving - a usual request. They also ask for guests to wash and dry the sheets and sweep/mop upon leaving - a less common ask. The bedding was adequate. Older pillows and a firm, creaky master bed could be updated. This is not a touristy area. Those lie north and east of here. We brought all of our own food. If you plan to eat out, or shop out regularly, you will need to drive some distance/time. Within an hour's drive - and you will need to travel to take in the area and get supplies - are several wonderful spots. Be sure to hike Stone Mountain State Park. What a beautiful, well-maintained park! Bring your bikes and complete the 20-mile round trip rail-trail between Todd and Freeport. Gorgeous, easy ride along the New Fork River. Get baked goods at the Todd Mercantile store. Boone has some shopping and organic groceries, but is a solid two-hour round trip. Looking for adventure. Drive north on the main road, take the gravel road (left) at the fork, and follow the mountain road about 5 miles to the Blue Ridge Parkway. One of us enjoyed that very much; the other less so given the hairpin turns and steep drops. We definitely recommend Blue River Cabin.

From the moment we opened the first entry gate, we felt like a wonderful adventure was about to begin. The cabin is spacious, spotlessly clean, and supplied with everything you could possibly need for a relaxing, totally peaceful getaway. Falling asleep to the sound of the rushing water and waterfalls ...well, it just doesn't get any better than that. We will definitely return, and several of our friends are already wanting to book a stay also!

There's going to be slopes everywhere. To think this person teaches (children or college students or whom ever) astounds me. They didn't have enough sense to research the area but wants to moan and complain. Furthermore what teacher has only ONE WEEK vacation time? Give me a break! To see a no trespassing sign and that was the "last straw"...get over yourself. You're just miserable and want to take it out on others. It's because of the beauty, people, and culture of this area that I am moving from Maryland down here ASAP!

The driveway is 45 degrees up with loose gravel and took our CRV four attempts to reach the top. The pictures on the website do not show the slope. There are no screens on any windows so forget fresh air. The creek was not at the doorstep as advertised but down the treacherous driveway and across the road. Then I noticed active surveillance cameras everywhere recording our movements. As a last attempt to find something we enjoyed, we turned left out of the driveway to see the falls. A sign stating "If you can read this you are in my gun sights" was the last straw. When I contacted the owner, he stated he never advertised screens and said I was confused, malicious and accusatory. He would report me as a 'bad renter'. I thought he would offer half of my money back. I then realized several positive reviews were written in same writing style. Hopefully I will at least get the cleaning fee back since we never touched anything. We then drove 6 hours home.
