I have been to Blue Reef a couple of times and have always enjoyed it. It is a great day out for adults and children alike. There is plenty to see and activities for the kids. There are guides who appear to be very knowledgeable about the sealife at the centre. There is a vast array of different sealife including sharks, seahorses and loads of others. This is a fairly cheap and decent day out, especially if you have one of the promotional leaflets where you can get a child's place free with a full paying adult. There is also a small cafe and gift shop (somewhat pricey!) however, there are several fish and chip shops, ice cream shops and other small cafes nearby if you wish to eat some place else. We had a lovely day out here in the summer and took our nephew and he loved it. You get to see all kinds of fish and even walk through a glass tunnel so all the fish are swimming around you and get a close up of the sharks. You also get to see seahorses and my favourite otters. There is also talks throughout the day about different things which is very interesting and educational. There is also a cafe on site for you to have lunch. read more

A good little aquarium situated right on the coast at Tynemouth / Whitley Bay. No parking, but ample pay and display parking is available along the seafront a short walk away. We visited on a weekday towards the end of term but, despite there being 3 separate school parties in, we found it to be quite a pleasant experience. There is a large selection of fish and an excellent otter display, as well as an outdoor tank in which seals can be seen. The main disappointment was the large tank, under which is a short walkway, as the walkway was a great deal shorter than I was expecting and it was full of children! Having been to Deep Sea World in NOrth Queensferry, I was disappointed. However, well worth a visit, especially if you have children, as they will love it. read more

Kids seem to love this place and it's quite interesting for adults too.It's situated on the sea front at Tynemouth longsands.A wide variety of sea creatures and animals to see.A glass tunnel to walk through allows you to see the fishes swimming above your head. There's a cafe and gift shop.It can get busy which can spoil the experience and if you don't drive it can be quite a hike to get to from the Tynemouth or Cullercoats metro stations.There is a bus stop running directly into Newcastle just off the entrance also. read more

The Blue reef aquarium is just off the sea front in Tynemouth. There is a good availability of cheap car parking. There are all the usual displays, different fish, octopus, small sharks. There are regular displays where the kids can touch crabs and other little bits of marine life. There is a small walk through tunnel to see the rays and sharks going overhead is facinating for the kids. The best part of the aquarium is the fairly new seal pool. You can watch the seals from above and below the waterline and see them being fed. There are also otters (stinky). The cafe is basic, but has a nice view. Watch out for vouchers locally with sea life 2 for 1 on them. read more

Quite expensive for the whole family but very popular with children, this aquarium is located close to cheap car parking in Tynemouth. The car park just behind is reasonably sized and priced though busy in the summer and at weekends. The aquarium itself has a good selection of sea creatures - plenty of fish, some fascinating rays, seahorses, frogs, little turtles, otters and the new seal cove as well as the underwater tunnel where you can watch fish swimming overhead. As another reviewer pointed out, the tunnel isn't that long and I think brings the visit to a rather abrupt end. They have educational talks and feeding times and activities for children at holiday times. The cafe is very basic with standard fare which isn't all that cheap but the view is lovely and it's nice to relax there. There's a gift shop with the usual range of novelty items and trinkets beloved by children, though I have a lovely sturdy and colourful keyring from here that's lasted ages. When we go we make an afternoon of it and go for a walk/play on the beach just opposite. read more

The blue reef aquarium is based on the coas in whitley bay, it is a meduim sized reef that has a wide array of fish and animals. The kids love going to this place as it has a lot of hands on activities for them to do as long as you go at the right times for all of the demos etc. The prices are a little on the pricey side but for what you get for your money and how much the kids enjoy it it can be justified. The little rock pools are very intresting and so is the pool full of rays and little sharks the main reef has some lovely fish in there but maybe it is on the little side size wise. But all in all a nice day out for the family especially on a hot summers day as you have the beach and coastline right next to it also soe lovely picnic areas. read more

The Blue Reef Aquarium at Tynemouth is a good place to spend a few hours with the children and starts with a great low tank of fish for the smaller visitor. It can be expensive entry if you do not have a discounted voucher but the exhibits are great fun and quite hypnotising for children. Buggy access is good and the variety of fish and unusual creatures from the sea is good for kids to marvel at. There is a very good gift shop for souvenirs of their visit and access to this does not rely on visiting the centre. Great place on a cold day in the North East ! read more

The Blue Reef Aquarium' or 'The Sea-life Centre' as it was previously known, is home to many awesome sea creatures of all kinds. Toxic frogs, octopus, sharks, otters, seals and hundreds of fish are kept in cruelty free environments and you can see them swimming about. There is a cafe and a gift shop so you can make a day of your visit. An adult ticket is £6.95 and is well worth it if you have a day off work. This place is great for all the family and it's educational aswell as entertaining. read more

The blue reef Aquarium is a really interesting find, quite difficult to get parked on school holidays so going via public transport is a must (cullercoats metro) ! For what you get when you go its quite expensive £7.50 for Adults, and £5.50 for children or a family ticket for 2 adults 2 children is £21.99. The aquarium is open from 10am - 5pm and our family visit lasted about an hour. Inside is quite small so if you are planning on going in the school holidays go first thing or last thing as when its busy its difficult to get to see everything as people tend to crown around the displays. When we read about the Aquarium we were really excited about the underwater walkthrough tunnel, i was very dissapointed at how short it actually was. Wheelchair users are welcome but as i said before you need to be carefull what time you visit. There is a cafe and gift shop but the cafe fills up very quickly especially from around 11am - 4pm read more
